16.01.2022 100 YEARS OF Qantas! Inspired by the ANZAC spirit, Qantas was officially registered on 16 November 1920. Formed in Experience Winton, the business was built on joy flights and charter work in the early days. Operations moved here to Longreach in 1921, and the following year saw the first scheduled mail and passenger flights take off!... 84-year-old Alexander Kennedy was the very first Qantas passenger when he flew from Longreach to Cloncurry for 11! On the 9 June 1996 our Qantas Founders Museum, Longreach, Queensland opened to the public. Just like Qantas, the museum started from small beginnings in the Heritage Listed Qantas Hangar and tells the story of Qantas from 1920 to present day.

Longreach remained the terminus of the Central Line from 1892 until an extension was built to Winton to connect with the Great Northern Line in 1928.... Today the station is served by the Spirit of the Outback train which runs from Brisbane to Longreach twice a week.
