24.01.2022 NAIDOC week is a time to celebrate our Indigenous culture, although this is something we do all year round. One of the ways we embed Aboriginal perspectives is by selecting resources which recognise and celebrate their culture in a positive light. #children #childcare #northernbeacheschildcare #earlychildhoodeducation #aboriginalaustralia #aboriginalperspectives #indigenousaustralia #resourcesmatter #naidocweek #naidocweek2020

22.01.2022 Lunch today: Mild beef curry with sweet potato, served on a bed of couscous We are fortunate to have an on-site chef who is able to create new and interesting recipes that allow children to expand their palate.

18.01.2022 An interesting approach to helping your little ones when they are having a meltdown.

17.01.2022 In honour of NAIDOC week, we celebrate and recognise Australia’s first people. We pay respect to elders past, present and emerging and specifically acknowledge the Gayamaygal people, who are the traditional custodians of the land on which we grow, learn and play. #naidocweek2020 #australiasfirstpeople #indigenousaustralia #gayamaygalcountry

15.01.2022 Adding a splash of colour to the outdoors gives the parachute a new use. Children are inquisitive by nature and enjoyed looking up to see this new ‘rainbow’ feature outside. The children were mesmerised by the colours and used language to name the colours they could see #childcare #northernbeacheschildcare #earlychildhoodeducation #coloursoftherainbow #coloursoutdoors #parachutes #childrenasobservers #provocationsforlearning

13.01.2022 Some great words here, and a little reminder to sometimes shift our perspective when thinking about children and the challenges we may face.

09.01.2022 This week we recognise and celebrate NAIDOC week here at Explore & Develop Narraweena. We consistently embed Aboriginal perspectives into our curriculum, however this week we ensure it takes priority in our everyday curriculum. Our nursery end have given focus and attention to the Aboriginal flag. Here they explore the colours and elements within the flag, beginning to offer them the language regarding what each represents. We hope as they grow and learn, that they will be able to connect this to the Aboriginal flag that we consistently display at the front of our service. #childcare #northernbeacheschildcare #earlychildhoodeducation #naidocweek #naidoc2020 #embeddingaboriginalperspectives #aboriginalaustralia #foundationsforlearning

06.01.2022 Our weaving practices have continued all year as we incorporate Aboriginal practices into our curriculum. This has challenged the children’s fine motor skills and we have seen these strengthen over time. The children show pure joy as they weave and this promotes emotional regulation as it is a calming experience. The conversations that transpire throughout the weaving can often be about caring for the land as the children have a heightened awareness of caring for Gayamaygal land. We also see the older children helping the younger children as they learn from one another. #childcare #earlychildhoodeducation #northernbeacheschildcare #aboriginalperspectives #weaving #embeddedpractice #comingtogether #learningfromoneanother #childrenlearnfromchildren

05.01.2022 Hands placed in the garden in honour of NAIDOC Week. Some of the messages are about reconciliation and others about caring for the land. #childcare #northernbeacheschildcare #earlychildhoodeducation #naidocweek2020 #handsontheearth #caringfortheland #gayamaygalcountry #indigenousaustralia #indigenousperspectives

04.01.2022 This week is National Water Week, encouraging us all to consider ways in which we can save our precious water. Everyone is encouraged to think about the little things you can do in your centre, in your home and just in daily life to conserve water Here’s a few tips to get you started: Limit showers to less than 5 minutes Regularly check all taps and pipes for leaks Use natural soaps so that left over water can be recycled into gardens... Match the laundry wash cycle to the size and contents of the load Water gardens before 9am Fill your dishwasher before using it If you have some other great tips we would love for you to share them with us #nationalwaterweek #nationalwaterweek2020 #childcare #earlychildhoodeducation #northernbeacheschildcare #savingourplanet #savingwater #waterconservation #doyourbit #sustainablepractices #sustainability

03.01.2022 A great way to explore the concept of Deconstruct-Reconstruct from the 8 Ways of learning Aboriginal pedagogy. The children were part of the entire process from taking the flowers and petals apart, to sorting them, and then placing them back onto their page to create their own flower design. These children have been studying nature and this was a lovely way to put their learning into practice in a tangible way. #childcare #earlychildhoodeducation #northernbeacheschildcare #deconstructed #reconstructed #8waysoflearning #aboriginalperspectives #aboriginalpedagogy #connectingtonature #sustainablepractices #handsonlearning

01.01.2022 We are all getting into the spirit of book week this week, with educators and children dressing up as their favourite characters In addition to the dress ups, educators embrace an array of books as we celebrate the importance of literacy in early childhood. There are also many literacy inspired experiences. #bookweek #bookweek2020 #childcare #earlychildhoodeducation #northernbeacheschildcare #literacy #literacymatters #earlyliteracy #booksarefun
