23.01.2022 A mother's love "The deadliest animal in the world is a mumma Crocodile" - DC Why? Because as soon as a female Salty builds a nest and lays her eggs, she beco...mes an extreme protector! A mumma Croc will defend her nest for 86-90 days until she hears the little chirp of her babies hatching from their eggs, she works hard to protect the nest from pigs and monitor lizards and will even take on a bigger male Crocs to keep her nest area safe! And it doesn't stop there...on average around 30 to 50 babies will hatch and mumma goes from an extreme defender to a tender loving carer. With the most powerful jaws in the world by far, she will ever so gently pick her babies up in her mouth and take them down, a few at a time, and drop them off in a safe place in the shallow water! We often talk about how deadly Crocs are, how big they can get...that they have big teeth and a bad attitude...but often we forget to talk about the softer side! It's true that the maternal instinct only lasts a few months but during that time - there is nothing that comes close to their Mother's Love! Molly perlmutter

01.01.2022 What keeps Crocodiles under control? Bigger Crocs! Crocodiles are cannibalistic...meaning they eat other Crocs which is why they are considered to be their ow...n population controllers. A 4m+ Croc will be the dominant animal up to a few km's in his stretch of the river, not allowing smaller males to take up shop and cause problems...but still be happy to have a dozen or more girls hanging round They are extremely territorial and will investigate new smells, they will chase down other Crocs, they will attack them and even kill other Crocs if need be...sometimes ending in a meal! But violence takes energy and Crocs are pretty lazy...usually all a bigger Croc needs to do is raise his body up to show his size, roar and put his scent in everything that's his....and the teenager Crocs will steer well clear! Big Saltwater Crocs - the original population controllers! Graham Webb
