We know that in this day and age people can get extremely sensitive about fish harvesting on global scales and the frustration at not being able to really do anything about it. NSW state gov predict that portions of the community will make a grab at the offered up local prohibition on fishing and spearfishing and in doing so earn their vote next election. "Cabbage Tree Bay" extension to the existing no fishing zone essentially locks out all shore based spearfishing in Manly. It appears as a grab for votes! Under the microscope it still appears as a grab for votes! There is no reason to stop rec fishing in the extension zone. There has not even been an attempt at giving an actual marine science based reason for this extension. There are no ...sea grass beds at stake in this extension zone. There are no critical fish habitats in this extension zone. It is a small stretch of coast, unused by any other community group. This zone offers practical, safe exit and entry for spearfishers, with very good protection from our frequent Southerly swell and wind systems that pound the coast here in Sydney. And it is the final and last practical zone where shore based spearfishing is permitted in Manly! 1. Attend the meeting listed at top. Location and date set by DPI: https://www.marine.nsw.gov.au//phase-3-information-sessions 2. Fill in the online survey provided by DPI and tick the "Cabbage Tree Bay" zone.
