25.01.2022 This week, Playgroup Australia has put a call out for people to share their stories of how Playgroup had an impact on their lives. I decided to put together a poem that I have included in the Blogs and Stories section on the website...https://www.growplayread.com/sto/every-tuesday-a-reflection

24.01.2022 More and more we are seeing developments in accessing the Arts through more alternate means and experiences. And remember, those experiences can be shared with a 'companion' who could be any member of your family or friends. Sounds great!

22.01.2022 This article discusses Charles Bonnet Syndrome which I believe a few of my clients experience. It mentions the fact that not enough GPs or eye specialists ask the question and therefore don't provide a diagnosis.

20.01.2022 Today I participated in an interview for an Australian research group who specialise in 3D printing and mapping for people with vision impairments. What does the research involve? This project aims to transform the provision of accessible graphics within Australia by exploring 3D printing as a new method for conveying graphics through touch. Monash University is partnering with Guide Dogs Victoria, RSB, Round Table and others to investigate the use of 3D printing to create accessible maps for orientation and mobility. In this study, we are looking at the creation of 3D maps to teach concepts for street crossings. Being involved in the research means we will get a chance to trial some products too with our clients. It's rather exciting!

11.01.2022 To 'those who get it' - good morning! I had to express my thoughts today on a facebook page where lots of people were making huge assumptions, demoralising a lady, questioning her vision impairment and just being horrible. I was appalled and so I responded and said this..." I have just been reading the posts from yesterday in regards to the lady who fell over on the wire grate that shouldn't have been there. Whether this story is true or not, I am absolutely appalled at the r...esponses about somebody who you have no knowledge about, and no 'common sense', no understanding of the DDA (Disability Discrimination Act), no understanding of what a vision impairment could consist of, what they can, can't see, their abilities to be mobile, their possible need for a cane or education in how to access services, she could have been waiting for supports, and still trying to live a regular day and just go for a stroll ! Yes, people who have a vision impairment exercise like we do, walk, run, anything they choose to do that is reasonably obtainable. There are supports that a person can access to learn skills to further their independent abilities but depending on their onset of a vision problem, they may have already been doing it all their life. Oh, and by the way, they can do social media too, and read the most horrible posts put up yesterday. Being new to the area - wow ! What an introduction. You should be ashamed of yourselves. That person you pass by in the street, at the shops - you have no idea who they are, where they have been and why they do what they do. No more time to educate - there is too much more for you to learn!" See more

10.01.2022 A big day today - initial NDIS planning meeting face to face (fortunate for us Queenslanders) followed by reuniting with a student from many years ago to advise on her NDIS supports. 09.01.2022 Going through some emails today to catch up...Came across a quote that resonates perfectly with me (thanks to Cathy Love) "When we successfully hire people we love working with and being around; we need to take care of them to keep them in our team." As a sole provider, I am now adding to my growing list of services and people to refer on...if need be...and they seem to be working out really well.
