24.01.2022 The community is urged to continue getting Flood Ready and be on the lookout for landslides - particularly if travelling in fire-affected areas and especially at night after heavy rain. Police and VICSES knows landslides, storms and floods are the last thing we need, but with heavy rain forecast to continue into warmer months, landslides are likely to occur, especially fire-affected areas are at a higher risk of landslides due to damaged vegetation and soil structure. Ensure you are legally, physically and mentally prepared to ride. Mate Two: Your riding group or buddy. Know your companions and always look out for each other. Mate Three: Your bike. Make sure it is serviced, mechanically sound and legally compliant. Mistakenly, a minority think the Road Rules don’t apply to riding a trail bike in the bush or on other public land because they don’t look like conventional roads. This is a misconception. All Road Rules apply whether it’s an informal single track, open fire trail, main forestry road or a camp ground. All too often comments such as I didn’t think that would apply out here or but I’m in the bush are heard after an intercept by police or as a result of a collision. By that stage it’s too late. The physical, social and financial impacts of trail bike trauma are significant and often avoidable. The following information will assist you to make informed choices to safely plan and enjoy your time on the trail. Get out there and enjoy the riding environment, look after your sport, look after yourself and always CHECK YOUR MATES.

The event is run by North East Health and members of the council who will be handing out masks, treats and flyers today from 3-6pm at King George Gardens Wangaratta.

19.01.2022 Police have been receiving an increased amount of calls to dogs locked in vehicles’. RSPCA cannot stress enough that it takes just 6 minutes for an animal to suffer severe heat exhaustion in a car and die. If police attend and cannot contact an owner in a timely manner, police will have to consider forcing entry to your vehicle.

09.01.2022 SCHOOLIES 2020! An awkward conversation with your kids now could save a lot of drama in the long run. Our message to parents or a loved one of a school leaver is to have open, frank conversations. ... Talk to them about the risks involved with excessive consumption of alcohol, taking drugs and encourage them to say no to peer pressure and risky behaviour. Make sure you know where they will be staying, and who they will be staying with, and they have all the right contact details in case they need help. Encourage them to have their mobile on them in case of an emergency and so they can contact their friends if they lose them. Most of all - Tell them to call 000 if they get into any dramas.

08.01.2022 Police are investigating a traffic incident that occurred on Monday the 30th of November, 2020 at Killawarra. Prior to 6.38am on this day, a blue Ford Territory left Warby Range Road, collided with some posts and a concrete drain, then crossed over the bike track and ended up coming to rest next to a gum tree, at the intersection of Warby Range Road and the Wangaratta Yarrawonga Road. Police are trying to establish the time of this collision and would like to know if anyone drove along Warby Range Road prior to 6.38am on Monday the 30th of November 2020 and if they did or did not see the blue Ford Territory. 05.01.2022 On Wednesday the 25th of November 2020 a plain clothes traffic operation was undertaken by Wangaratta Highway Patrol members targeting the Wangaratta CBD in regards to mobile phone use and other moving traffic violations. Highway Patrol member were kept busy in the 2 hour blitz of the area with 30 infringements being issued specifically for the offence of using a mobile phone whilst driving and a total of 49 infringements detected. Local highway patrol are frustrated that drivers of all ages are still driving and using mobile phones when messaging outlining their risks are so clear. It is also a timely reminder to probationary drivers that they cannot use a mobile phone in any way including on a blue tooth device, GPS or for music while driving.

05.01.2022 Police have returned to Wonnangatta Valley this week to continue their search for missing campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay. Members of police Search and Rescue were joined by NSW cadaver dogs to continue searching for the missing campers who have not been seen since March, 2020. 03.01.2022 Offenders are targeting unlocked vehicles in driveways, carports and front nature strips of private residences. Under the Road Safety Act 1986 Sect: 2135 it is an offence to leave a motor vehicle unlocked whilst unattended. To avoid becoming a victim please ensure your windows are wound up and all doors are locked including ute canopy when you leave your vehicle including at home.
