25.01.2022 How well do you know your local police? Over the coming weeks, we'll be introducing you to a few of the local officers across our police division which covers the Banyule, Darebin, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Police Service Areas. This is Acting Senior Sergeant Con Matsamakis You may see A/S/Sgt Matsamakis patrolling your local community shopping strips.... When he's at home, he loves caring for his chickens who provide him with a great breakfast (fresh eggs!) and a calming end to the day. Whilst he enjoys time with his chickens, rest-assured A/S/Sgt Matsamakis is no goose when it comes to keeping the community safe. #MeetYourLocalPolice

23.01.2022 If an offer of #QuickCash or #EasyMoney seems too good to be true, it probably is. Money muling is a type of money laundering. A ‘money mule’ is a person who receives money from a third party in their bank account and transfers it to another account, or withdraws it in cash to give to someone else, obtaining a commission for their efforts.... Simply put, money mules help criminal syndicates move money around the world, but the consequences for the money mules can be severe. 21.01.2022 You wouldn’t leave the house without your wallet, keys or phone. So why would you get in a vehicle without putting your seatbelt on? Wearing a seatbelt gives you the best chance of survival if involved in a serious collision. Sadly lives could have been saved if people managed to do this simple task. Whether you are travelling a short distance down the road or on a long journey always wear a seatbelt. There’s no excuse.

07.01.2022 Greensborough Highway Patrol will be out in force over the next 18 days, cracking down on dangerous drivers in response to Victoria’s rising road toll. Operation Saturn launched this Thursday the 22nd of October and will run over the next 18 days in order to target the rise in lives being lost on Victorian Roads. The focus of this operation will be to target drivers impaired by fatigue, alcohol or drugs, driver distraction offences, speeding, motorcycle and seatbelt offences.... The aim, in addition to detecting offences, is to provide a highly visible police presence to reinforce positive driving behaviours and lessen the incidence of road trauma. Speed and distraction are the leading contributors to road trauma and are major factors in about half of the fatal and serious injury collisions each year. Speeding increases both the likelihood of a collision and the severity of the crash. Speeding is never worth the risk. Driving while using a mobile phone is a significant distraction, it can impair a driver’s reaction time, ability to maintain speed and position on the road and general awareness of other traffic. Keep your eyes off your phone and on the road. No text message, phone call or meme is worth more than a life, yours or someone else’s. Greensborough Highway Patrol will be conducting random roadside testing over the coming weeks targeting drivers under the influence of alcohol and illicit drugs. Greensborough Highway Patrol urge all motorists to take responsibility for their actions behind the wheel and to make a commitment, not only to themselves and their families, but to all members of the community to consciously think about their choices when getting behind the wheel. Stay safe and have a great couple of weeks!
