21.01.2022 On 11/11/2020 Lilydale Police set up a preliminary breath testing site on Main Street in Lilydale in accordance with Operation Compass. Operation Compass is an operation that is currently being conducted throughout the state to reduce road trauma and provide a highly visible police presence on Victorian roads. At approximately 10:15am a 63 year old female driver entered the testing site, and was required to undergo a preliminary breath test and returned a positive reading. ...The result of the Evidentiary breath test was .293. As a result, the driver will be charged with drink driving and the car has been impounded. Police are very thankful that with a reading of almost six times the legal limit, we were able to get this driver off our roads before anyone was seriously injured or killed.

The online exhibition captures the extraordinary contribution police made in protecting the community and keeping Victorians safe. In honour of all the communities and our partnering emergency services, we encourage you to read the stories of help, loss and the recovery of Victoria. https://bit.ly/38LkLdD

19.01.2022 COMPETITION TIME!! Our new Police Cat needs a name. Why a cat you ask?... Well, we have had an uptick in shoplifting over the last few years, more specifically, the theft of food from stores. Many times our officers lack the reasonable suspicion to search a subject and or vehicle due to lack of evidence at the time of the offence. Cats have a better ability than dogs to smell out food, and that the new feline officer will be called to the scene of suspected shoplifting incidents to conduct a fresh air scent, helping our police determine whether any items have been stolen. Just like the K-9s, if the animal hits on the subject or vehicle we now have reasonable suspicion to search. Comment below on what you suggest the cats name should be. The one with the most likes will be the winner.

06.01.2022 HIGHWAY PATROL REPORT HAZARD ALERT; HEADLIGHTS, DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS AND FOGLIGHTS; Do you know the difference?... Often whilst out on patrol at night, we find people who are driving without their vehicle headlights on as required. In many cases, due to the brightness of daytime running lights (DRL’s), people have mistakenly thought their headlights were on. DRL’s are a bright light that is activated during normal daytime operation and assists to make your vehicle more visible to others. At night, the DRL’s will turn off or dim when the headlights are activated. DRL’s alone do not provide sufficient illumination to drive with at night. Many new cars now have an ‘auto headlight’ system whereby your headlights will automatically turn on and off with the ignition. You should ensure that your vehicle has the correct settings before driving and check that your headlights are activated. Driving without headlights on at night is a significant safety risk. The penalty for driving at night without headlights is $248 and incurs one demerit point. Fog lights are only to be operated when it is foggy or during other hazardous weather conditions causing reduced visibility. The penalty for driving with fog lights on when not required is $165. Although some examples are depicted below, the positions of DRL's and foglights on modern vehicles can vary. If you are uncertain about the correct operation of your lights, please consult your vehicle owner manual. For further information: https://bddy.me/2Iggkgt #victoriapolice #highwaypatrol
