18.01.2022 Wow! Another fabulous week of Smiles on Eyre Program, and oral health for kids! We have had such fun and have been welcomed so warmly by everyone we have seen... in Wudinna, Streaky Bay and Cleve clinics. The communities have been grateful to have such an awesome team who truly care about the outcomes for the oral health of their young ones. And from all the feedback we are receiving would love it to continue. Having oral health professionals to visit down the road, close by, is something in metro we take for granted, yet for many here it can be up to 5 hour round trip, and day trip or more, to visit a dental practice simply for a check, never mind needing treatment......and what if you need multiple appointments. Thank you to William Carlson-Jones and Jade Schlink for all their tireless work, long days and great fun with the kids, a terrific team Also to Lindi Duncan for the wonderful days spent doing preventive care and raising awareness on knowledge of the importance of oral health. Thank you to Leone Mackenzie from 3M and Melinda Guidolin from SDI, incredibly grateful for the support for this program, always going above and beyond personally Thank you to Cindy Dennis and Carol Koch and the SB team for enabling this program to happen. Imagining a world in oral health, where preventive disease doesn't exist for children and beyond See more

14.01.2022 Our Smiles on Eyre Program will be taking place at local schools and kindergartens next week. This is an oral hygiene education session presented by our hygienists and university students by way of a power point presentation and interaction. Following this ALL kids will receive a hygiene pack including a USB with the presentation for them to take home to share with their families. The kids we have consent for will have fluoride varnish applied to their teeth, which is highly beneficial especially in our region where we drink a lot of rain water. If you have any questions please call our office on 8628 2355 (do not comment on here please)

04.01.2022 What an amazing week we had last week presenting our 'Smiles On Eyre' program to the children at our local schools and kindergartens. Thankyou for all the positive feedback. We are confident the children learnt something and enjoyed their oral hygiene packs. We would love to share this testimonial with you all that we received from our volunteer hygienist Kiran: 'Last week of Nov 2019 I was fortunate enough to volunteer as a Dental Hygienist for Smiles on Eyre program. My exp...erience was rewarding at personal and social level and a great learning curve for me in terms of experiencing Rural Dentistry. I was involved with giving Oral health education to children across various schools and applying Fluoride varnish after a brief dental exam. Working with children was a unique and wonderful experience and this has given me more confidence for any future work involving children. I was fortunate to work with great Mentors like Lyn Carmen and Sydney Brown who have a lot of experience in working with young kids even the nervous and anxious ones. Life in rural has a certain calm, living in a small community I found that people were very loving, empathetic and helpful. I was surprised we never locked any doors and the community felt safe. Every town had one school containing everything from childcare to primary to High school. I was a bit skeptical as to what level of Oral Hygiene and Caries rate I would encounter but was happy to see that the Rural community was in good hands. Caries rate seemed a bit higher as we moved to schools farther away from the Dental clinic which emphasized the importance of Dental education and care. Thus, I felt great to be a part of this initiative to promote oral health in young children and provide preventative Fluoride treatment. To my surprise the population here including kids was not fond of the tap water containing Fluoride and preferred rainwater. The tap water did taste slightly different to Adelaide for me personally, but as its benefits are far reaching hence our goal was to get this message across. Children overall had a good response, as they were excited about the program, and willing to get the treatment. Although certain parents didn’t allow their kids to get the Fluoride Varnish, they still participated in the oral health education part. I also met other amazing volunteers from the same field who made my experience more comfortable, enjoyable and I feel I made some great social connections. The program was very well managed and organised from the moment the volunteering opportunity was advertised. Our roles were clearly defined, we had a good sense of what to expect and our stay was comfortable. Overall, it was a rewarding experience and I feel blessed to be given the opportunity to be a part of this amazing program' See more
