24.01.2022 It is difficult to get a lot of seed when breeding white complex types. We only got about 10 seedlings from this cross of Paph Sorcerers Stone with Paph Icy Ivy Wind. I am very happy with the results. This one we called Antarctic it is large for a white type.

24.01.2022 An early flowering Cym suave hybrid that was released to the market from Andy Easton. The plant is called Cym Eleanor Matsumoto. The early genes come from its other parent Peter Pan.

24.01.2022 We are seeing a large variation in flowers from the newly released cross of Bulb annadalai x Meen Poison Raspberry.

24.01.2022 Spots on small flowers is not common amongst cymbidiums. But we are working in this area. The photo is Cym Darch Freak x Vogelsang. We used a spotted Cym Darch Freak in this cross and not a ventral peloric form.

23.01.2022 One of the new novelty types of Cymbidium from the first flowering of the cross of Cym Darch Splat with Darch Dots. Can be seen at the Cymbidium Club Of WA display at Ezi-Gro Orchid this weekend.

22.01.2022 Where did the flower size come from? Flower is 13cm across. Parents are Paph Pine Glow x armeniacum.

22.01.2022 Extremely happy with the way the members of the Cymbidium Orchid Club of WA display of cymbidiums turned out. With the theme of Cymbidiums in Lockdown a cage was built all over the cymbidiums using bird netting. Members of the club bought in their empty cages and birds to be used as props. A fantastic effort by the club members. Sunday is the last day to see the show at Ezi-Gro Orchids before it becomes another memory.

10.01.2022 The Champion orchid for the Cymbidium Orchid Club Of WA Winter Show was an orchid called Cym Kimberley Pass Victoria. The theme of the show is Cymbidiums in Lockdown. It was no surprise that the orchid that won come from Victoria from Kimberley Orchids. It is a tribute to Peter Sutherland the hybridizer and to the Victorians that are going through some difficult times. The show is open Friday to Sunday at Ezi-Gro Orchids,

09.01.2022 I like the colour of this new seedling from the parents of Brenda with Star Paradise Tequila. It is interesting that the dark red banded labellums are often lost when breeding with Tequila.

08.01.2022 The complex paphiopedilums are taking over the office.

08.01.2022 Also used this Paph Havana Chilwin Havana to produce red complex types. Hope we get some seed.

06.01.2022 The Reserve Champion of the show was owned by Dr Carl. Cym Daniel Thomas #3. Could have been champion of the show if it had a few more flowers.

06.01.2022 The best seedling was a cross of Cym Baltic Glacier with Grand Monarch. I made the cross expecting some spotting on a green novelty shape flower with perfume. The outcome was none of these. The flower has good shape and a little peppering around the labellum. I would never have expected to get best seedling from this line of breeding.

06.01.2022 Best novelty seedling and intermediate was Cym Darch Explosion. The plant was also given an award for colour. The plant was owned by Andrew Middlecoat.

05.01.2022 Honey, I think it’s time to repot the cat.

05.01.2022 We have some more babies.

04.01.2022 Rlc Burdekin Dream DJ is one of the best exhibition cattleyas but when you get four large flowers on a flower stem arrangement is not the best.

02.01.2022 An old hybrid that I have had in my collection for a long time. Most probably from Alvin Bryant’s breeding. The cross is Cym Royden with Masao Toya. I called it ‘Fancy Pants’

02.01.2022 Cym Darch DeliriousDarch

02.01.2022 The Cymbidium Orchid Club of WA is having its Spring Show with many pendulous cymbidiums dominating at the Aranmore college this weekend. Grand Champion orchid was a vintage orchid that is over 100 years and is the famous Cym Alexanderi ‘Fine’ which was imported from Japan many years ago. Here we have a case of hoping the plant can be kept in cultivation for another 100 years. The reserve champion was Cym Helen Stretch ‘Charming’ The theme for the display was the club is celebrating 25 years.

01.01.2022 Can you see the feathered appearance of this cymbidium flower. Rarely a mutation occurs during the cloning process. The name of the clone is Cym Darch Jabiru Green Meadows. This feature is usually lost if this plant is cloned and it reverts back to normal colour. This plant is valuable to collectors of this type of features as they have to get a division of the original plant.
