24.01.2022 Can you guess what this is? It's a hard disk drive back in 1956... A HDD with 5 MB storage. In September 1956 IBM launched the 305 RAMAC, the first computer with a hard disk drive (HDD). The HDD weighed over a ton and stored 5 MB of data. Start appreciating your 32 GB memory stick!

17.01.2022 If you are a Retirement Village Manager or live in a Retirement Village, then this post is for you! Whos looking after our Seniors???? When it comes to Scammers, Hackers and Computer Problems our Seniors are being ripped off taken for a ride and losing money through phone and internet scams.... I have lived and worked in the Moreton Bay area for over 20 years. My job? I run a Computer Repair business specialising in in-home service. Most of my clients are over 50 and many are confused when it comes to trust. I would like to offer my expertise and advice in a three week (one hour) program I call Staying Safe With Your Computer & The Internet Its a big topic, but I will cover the basics in those three weeks.. hopefully imparting my wide knowledge of what to look out for with phone conversations, downloading potential software threats and general maintenance of a computer. I would love to run this short program in a room or hall that you have. And best of all, there will be NO CHARGE - I know this sounds crazy, but I have received so much from the community (and particularly over 50s) over the past 15 years. If they wanted to donate a gold coin for each week, that would be great (just to cover any written material), but not mandatory. I also have my own PA with wireless microphone if required dont have a HDMI projector, but can work something out. Please feel free to call me on 0416 195155. This is an offer for all Seniors Living properties in the area and theres only one of me so hopefully you may take advantage of my offer and call me as soon as possible. 16.01.2022 Formally Alan - Computer Guru Windows 7 Support Has Ended - January 14, 2020 Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 in January 2015, with extended support running till 14 January 2020. Those who fail to migrate in time will be saddled with high fees for further support from Microsoft.... This End of Life means no more bug-fixes, security patches or new functionality, making any user - personal or enterprise - significantly more susceptible to malware attacks. Just as it did with Windows XP, Microsoft will continue to offer support for those Windows 7 users still reluctant to upgrade to its Windows 10 OS, but it'll cost you. However, there's absolutely nothing stopping you from using Windows 7 even after its End of Life. But you should know that using an outdated operating system makes your computer vulnerable to cyber-attacks. As a quality repairer to your computer, I would be reluctant to service a PC with Windows 7. If you're thinking about upgrading an old system to Windows 10, it's also worth considering the age of the components and if they would even work in a Windows 10 environment. And then there is the Internet Security programs that won't work properly with Windows 7 . So there is a lot to consider. If you are using internet banking, then my advice is simple - don't use Windows 7. Security Issues for 2020 As we move into 2020, Internet Security will become even more important. This is evolutionary and changing rapidly. There will be more attacks aimed at your computer and more people will be vunerable to scams. I have seen some of my clients loose thousands of dollars out of their bank accounts thanks to scammers. It is the perfect time to purchase some peace of mind - Internet Security software. There's plenty to choose from including brands such as Norton, Kaspersky, Avast and AVG. My "go to" software for over 18 years has been Trend Micro Maximum Security - I endorse it... I sell it and I install it. Simple to use and does the job without slowing down your computer. Please contact me if you would like more information.
