22.01.2022 TECHNIQUE TUESDAY -BENT OVER BARBELL ROW- 1. Assume a standing position while holding the bar using the prescribed grip (e.g. overhand, underhand, mixed).... 2. Keeping the ridged, chest or proud, shoulders back, draw the belly button toward your spine, then hinge forward until your torso is roughly parallel with the floor (or slightly above) and then begin the movement by driving the elbows behind the body while retracting the shoulder blades. 3. Pull the bar towards your belly button guiding your elbows toward the bottom of your 12th rib, getting a solid contraction of your back muscles until it touches your body and then slowly lower the bar back focusing on slow and controlled ROM back to the starting position. 4. Repeat the above steps through your full set. Remember - QUALITY OVER QUANTITY!!! TIPS: - If you experience lower back troubles during this exercise stand up tall. Reset. Chest up, shoulders back, draw the belly button toward your spine and engage your back muscles. Continue the process of hinging forward. Don’t allow the shoulders to round out of the socket. This will aim to protect the lower back. If you fatigue, go for 5 reps then stand tall reset and go again. Alternative: Single Arm Bent Over Dumbbell Row - speak to your coach about this scaled option.
