25.01.2022 The Importance of ensuring your meals are packed with nutrition... The foods we choose to eat can affect our concentration levels throughout the day in either a positive or negative way. Eating foods that are loaded with essential nutrients, vitamins and minerals will not only help to keep your mind healthy but it will also keep your energy steady and allow you to stay focused throughout the day. ... While Less nutrient dense foods like fast food or packaged options can often cause negative effects on your ability to stay focused and perform activities well. Let this post serve as your reminder to be prepared for tomorrow and to choose your body’s fuel wisely. Being prepared and thoughtful when it comes to nutrition can make all the difference as to whether you perform well like a Ferrari or lack intensity and the ability to reach your goals. . 24.01.2022 Tomorrow’s Hollywood session features this gnarly Push-up Progression. In our performance block, you all made incredible progress on your body weight push, so here is the opportunity to level up, and advance the movement. . We are already sweating in our boots just lookin at it, only the push up gods know what Nath must be feelin . ... . The push up, is one of the best and most underrated upper-body strength movements of all time. When executed properly, you’ll be hard pressed to find a better movement for developing and strengthening the upper body. . Adding the feet up on to the box places greater demands upon the upper pecs, shoulders, and triceps, and Dayummn, Gravity will certainly play a role in adding some extra spice to this movement pattern! So beware! . One common error made in the push up, is by locking the scapula (just a fancy term for your shoulder blades) into a fixed position. Let the shoulder blades retract back on the way down and lock out in protraction at the top. Let them move as they naturally should, our coaches will be on deck to help you with technique. . One benefit of the push up, compared to its weighted alternatives such as the dumbbell press, is the very fact that your shoulder blades aren’t stuck on a bench as you push, allowing them to keep good scapula-humeral rhythm. . Take it away - Shows us how it’s done Nath . See you in class tomorrow! See more
23.01.2022 Find strength in length To lengthen muscles for long term progress, it requires the Central Nervous System to be stimulated. Long term adaption can only occur from active inputs. A strong muscle is a long muscle. A weak muscle, is a tight, restricted one. Split stance work that we regularly hit in class is a great opportunity to not only strengthen but mobilise the anterior hip, so long as the focus and intent is on the right areas. ... Take these pointers into class with you!

09.01.2022 Are you using the scales to measure your success? Think lifting weights is adding weight to your frame? Think again! There is a big difference between losing weight and losing fat. Your goal should never be to lose weight, but instead to lose fat. When you lose weight, you lose everything--from fat to muscle to fluids. Ideally we want the majority of weight loss to come from fat, not the other stuff! If you are only concerned with seeing a smaller number on the scale, you ma...y be losing valuable muscle instead, which will result in long-term weight gain! When losing weight, the way to lose just fat is by hitting the weights and adding strength training into your fitness program. Losing weight simply by performing cardio will generally result in the kgs creeping right back on as soon as you stop the cardio, as you’re without muscle mass to keep the weight off. Don't worry about bulking up or gaining too much muscle. For the majority of the population, it's simply not a concern. No one accidentally becomes Arnold Schwarzenegger! (Even though Mike wishes it was that easy ). When you add muscle, you improve the body fat composition ratio, which should be your Main goal for both health and vanity reasons! Muscle is metabolically active and lights your furnace, keeping your metabolism brisk and burning calories. Even when you're sitting on the couch, you burn more calories if you have more muscle mass on your frame. So losing muscle means your furnace slows down, your metabolism gets sluggish and the weight keeps on coming - aka if you want to lose fat mass, start coming along to resistance sessions as well as our conditioning sessions! Both have their place! The final take home here as to why we should never just focus on a smaller number on the scales is because whilst losing weight on the scales may seem to be a Win, it can actually just leave us looking like smaller version of a fat person because we end up having no muscle tone underneath the skin. To look like a fighting fit, healthy person, having muscle is absolutely necessary! Hit the weights! The best methods of measuring body fat % is through the InBody scan, taking measurements, evaluating per
