25.01.2022 Trying to eat healthier, but feeling overwhelmed by all the claims on food labels! Here's a few tips to make things easier: If comparing foods, always compare the 100g column, as serving sizes can be deceiving! If you need to compare calories and kJs of two different items, just divide Kjs by 4.2 or multiply calories by 4.2. Its much easier to compare numbers if they are in the same format Look for foods with higher protein, lower sugars and lower saturated fats Rem...ember not all fats are bad, saturated and trans fats are the 'baddies' Not all low fat options are better! When looking to buy low fat items compare the amount of sugar, carbohydrates etc they also have Not all 'light' or 'lite' options are better, this can be deceiving or a gimmick. 10.01.2022 HAPPY HOLIDAYS This time next week it will be CHRISTMAS! What an exciting time of year it is! (unless you work in retail ) Along with the abundance of good times that this period brings, is the abundance of food and drinks consumed. This could see your diet weakenor completely fall out the window and down the street.... We want you to enjoy the festive time of year, while still incorporating healthy habits! So, we have put together a few tips to make sure the silly season doesn’t get the better of you this year! 1. PLAN AHEAD - If you know you are having a big Lunch and Dinner, go lighter than usual on Breakfast. 2. STAY ACTIVE - Be creative with your exercise and find ways to get up and move! From a simple walk to a game of backyard cricket with the family, there are plenty of options and chances. 3. HYDRATE - The weather is heating up so it's important to drink your water and stay hydrated, especially if there's alcohol being consumed! 4. GET YOUR GREENS IN - There will be plenty of calorie-dense foods, which often don't have many vitamins and minerals. Your leafy greens are a goldmine for your vitamins, minerals and Fibre, so make sure to get them in! 5. MODERATION - Everything in moderation! Go for a smaller plate, so when and if you go for seconds you won't feel as guilty! - Alcohol at the end of the day is empty calories, so always drink in moderation. Also, if you choose to, grab a bottle of water and catch an uber! 6. ENJOY! - The most important tip of them all! It's been a wild year, so go and enjoy yourself and have some fun! 01.01.2022 Look at that concentration, yass We know it can be easy to 'drift off' sometimes in class, focus on the pain or the clock, rather than the movement. Remember there is nothing wrong with slowing down and concentrating on executing a movement correctly. Focusing on smooth movements, posture and what muscles you are working will help you get more out of every station and reduce the risk of injury #focus #musclemindconnection
