20.01.2022 We have some exciting news!
19.01.2022 Our Regenerate exhibition shows the creativity of our community during their bushfire recovery, as well as their generosity. A fantastic example is the Fabrik Yarning Circle, started by Barbara Millward. When the Bushfire Recovery Centre asked Fabrik if we could find some crafters to knit and crochet items for locals in need, Barb eagerly stepped in to establish this weekly gathering in our little cottage. Every Wednesday in August and September, Barb welcomed a group of ded...icated makers of hats, scarves and gloves (as well as this beautiful blanket, that is currently on display in our Regenerate exhibition). Something wonderful happens when we sit and create together, said Barbara. It isn’t just about knitting or crochet we share thoughts, emotions and life events. We make friends. The Yarning Circle will start again in the New Year and you are welcome to join in. If you don’t knit or crochet, never fear Barb and her group can teach you! The Regenerate exhibition is open daily, 11am 4pm until Sunday 20 December.

15.01.2022 This year we've watched our community come to terms with the impact of the Cudlee Creek bushfire, that surrounded our town of Lobethal days before Christmas. We welcomed the Bushfire Recovery Centre into our beautiful Building 20 (the old Blanket Room) and have watched over the year as community members have come to the Centre to receive ongoing assistance and support as they rebuild their homes, properties and lives. During this time we have been quietly offering Creative Recovery activities, knowing that creative activity can be a powerful tool in recovery. Next Friday we launch Regenerate, an exhibition showing the ways creative practice has been a part of our community's recovery. We hope you can visit and celebrate with us the power of resilience and regeneration.
14.01.2022 Our ‘Portrayals of a Pandemic’ exhibition shares letters exchanged during the winter of 2020. Collaborating with the fabulous folk at Writers SA participants undertook three workshops over three months, with established writers: -Melanie Knight, founder of Dead Letter Club -Dr Kylie Cardell, author of Dear World: Contemporary Use of the Diary -Poet Jill Jones... Each workshop had a different focus: writing from memory, writing in place and writing with hope for the future. Each letter was posted to Fabrik where it was photographed before being forwarded on to another writer. This exhibition shows the images of those letters, giving insight into the fears and hopes held during these very early months of the pandemic. Portrayals of a Pandemic Thursday-Sunday 11am-4pm Until March 14
14.01.2022 This work in our Regenerate exhibition keeps stopping us in our tracks. The artist Pauline Cockrill is also museum curator from Harrogate, and her way of processing the impact of the Cudlee Creek fire on her property was to collect and catalogue the remains in the manner of historical artefacts. The initial mindless, mechanical work helped block out the anxiety and guilt that was always bubbling to the surface, Pauline said. Later the making of this installation was mindful, peaceful work. It gave me a sense of control over the uncontrollable. It was also a time to reflect, let go of what was lost and be thankful for all those people who have helped us through the long recovery process." The Regenerate exhibition is open daily, 11am - 4pm until Sunday 20 December.
13.01.2022 We are so proud of our resilient Adelaide Hills community and our beautiful land. Our community kept it together in 2020 by coming together and this video captures that spirit beautifully. And don't forget, this is the last weekend to catch our Regenerate exhibition, a creative representation of our community's recovery this year. The exhibition closes this Sunday so don't miss out.... 11.01.2022 It was with full hearts that we opened the "Regenerate" exhibition last night. At the beginning of this year of years, South Australian artists brought the "Solastalgia" exhibition to Fabrik as an offering of solace and comfort to our community after the devastating Cudlee Creek fires. Now, at the end of this year, the "Regenerate" exhibition is an offering from our community, sharing the ways their creative activity has provided hope, solace and connection through their reco...very process. While COVID has taken much of the world's attention since March, our community has been quietly building back their lives after the fires. As we near the anniversary date of December 20, feelings are mixed. Recovery takes time and is a different journey for everyone. For many, creative activity has been an important strategy to get through this year. For some, it has kept their hands busy, while their minds come to terms with their situation. For others, it's been a way of actively processing and documenting their loss and the recovery of the environment around them. Different groups have gathered regularly at Fabrik throughout the year - artists, writers, kindy mums and knitters - talking, connecting and creating on their recovery journey together. This exhibition shares the work of these groups and others in our community - over 100 artists including 40 adults and four local primary schools. Each piece holds a different story: hope, loss, friendship, resilience, grief, calm, generosity. We hope you can visit to honour and share in the ongoing recovery journey of our community. The exhibition is open 11-4 every day until December 20.
11.01.2022 That moment when an exhibition is up and the light shines through like a blessing. The ‘quiet conversations’ exhibition opens on Friday 19 February, showing 98 hand-stitched tea towels, made by artists around the world (brought together by the amazing India Flint), transforming a humble domestic cloth into something fresh and just a bit magical. ‘quiet conversations’ exhibition ... 04.01.2022 Strum and Stroll kicks off tomorrow and we can't wait!! Free live music in lovely venues along the Main Street, and an evening of music in Fabrik's Mill Square with: Naomi Keyte The Various Nefarious... Runebilly Rattle Food stalls and rock star guitar making with Deb Twining from Twining Arts. Strum and Stroll has been developed in partnership with the Adelaide Guitar Festival and is part of Adelaide Hills Council's Festival of the Hills.
02.01.2022 Local artist Anne Griffiths has been offering classes on the Mill site for many years. Immediately after the Cudlee Creek fires Anne approached us for a space at Fabrik to hold gatherings for adults and children to meet and create artwork together. These supportive and creative gatherings have continued throughout the year. This collection of artworks, displayed as part of the Regenerate exhibition, has been produced by the Thursday night group, three of whom lost their home...s in the fires. The support and connections within the group are almost palpable. As one of the members Kendrea says the group’s varying skills and interests, life experiences, and love of food and wine, make for an entertaining evening for any fly on the wall. And we think these works on the wall (and plinths) look pretty good too! Regenerate exhibition is open daily 10am-4pm until 20 December.
