12.01.2022 Hopefully we are all enjoying the massive turnaround this season. However, as is often the case in agriculture, the bad can often come with the good. Over the last 3 days, I have had 8 calls from producer’s with dead sheep. All the deaths occurred on cereal crops that were top dressed with Urea late last week prior to the forecasted rainfall event and in all cases, the deaths were due to nitrate poisoning. One producer at Corowa in southern NSW lost 40 xbred ewes in one nigh...t and at $300/hd, that hurt! With the consistently overcast weather we have been having over the last week, any paddocks that have been recently top-dressed, whether they are pasture or winter crop, with a nitrogen based fertiliser ( Urea, Pasturbooster etc) are at risk. For further information on nitrate poisoning, please go to the attached link or call Steve on 0447 164 701 Happy farming https://www.fabstock.com.au/fabchat
