This one had a 12kt gold, heavily distressed water gild over black poliment on the slip, with a 23kt gold, fully burnished water gild, (lightly distressed on the tips over red poliment) as the outer frame. They were all different, using textured gesso and colour to suit each painting. The original finish had a clunky silver smudge on the base and rosette at the top. 15.01.2022 I forgot to take a before photo for these, so eager was I, to bring them back to life. The frames were missing several sections of the decorative moulding and sweeps, and had been painted over with thick gaudy gold paint. They’ve been stripped back, missing sections replaced and then re-gilded and toned to suit the artwork. The paintings are actually fired china paintings. Portraits of the owners of an English pottery business from the early 1800’s. The frames though are from later, probably late 1800’s or early 1900’s and Australian. 07.01.2022 Another family treasure bought back to life. This frame belonged to my clients mother, but had been water damaged and much of the decorative compo elements missing. Her family photos that were all different sizes and colours have been restored and re-coloured to suit the tone in the restored frame. Teamed with a velvet mat and museum glazing. 02.01.2022 With no intact corners and a heavily flaking gild, this frame had seen better days. The most intact corner was completed by modeling and then cast to replace the other 3 missing corners. The whole frame has been stripped back, gesso’d, gilded and re-finished as it would have looked originally. It’s been re-joined, missing compo ornament replaced, missing segments of sand panelling filled, damaged areas filled and sanded, before being re-gilded in Dutch metal.
