It could be time to consider your gut health and dairy consumption. The correlation between stubborn skin concerns and dairy has been closely studied for many years. Experts have discovered a direct link between inflammation in skin and dairy products such as milk, cheese and ice cream (all our favouite things!)... Eliminating dairy from your diet can improve skin texture and tone and improve skin conditions like acne and rosacea Skim milk causes the most skin issues because of the whey protein, hormones, and sugars in it It will take about two to three weeks to see a change in your skin if you decide to remove dairy from your diet Milk contains components related to the hormone testosterone that can stimulate oil glands in the skin, setting the stage for acne. Lactose is the natural sugar present in milk. After infancy, it becomes more difficult for humans to break lactose down and digest it. And if you belong to the 65 percent of people who are lactose intolerant, your acne-related breakout could be due to a lactose sensitivity or allergic reaction. The skin barrier, or skin barrier function, is essentially the outermost layer of skin cells (the stratum corneum, if you’re fancy) plus the lipid matrix (composed of ceramides, cholesterols and fatty acids) that holds those cells together. You can think of the skin barrier like a brick wall: The cells are the bricks, and the lipid matrix is the mortar. Altogether, it functions as a crucial protective barrier from environmen...tal irritants and harmful microbes. Basically, it locks in the good and keeps out the bad! When a skin barrier is damaged, your skin becomes vulnerable to nasties such as pollutants and UV rays. You can also lose hydration and nutrients which can throw off its moisture balance.
