25.01.2022 Heliodor. Meaning "gift of the sun", this is the yellow variety of the Beryl family. Not quite a well known as it's more famous siblings Emerald, Aquamarine and Morganite, it is still a striking gemstone with its colour varying from a slightly greenish yellow through to an intense golden yellow. Also known a yellow or Golden Beryl, it's known for its fresh, citrus colour.

24.01.2022 Rhodolite Garnet. Ranging in colour from a distinct purplish red through to a slightly pinkish red, Rhodolite remains one of the more popular members of the diverse Garnet family. Find in several locations around the globe, Tanzania remains perhaps the most important source of the finest Rhodolite.

21.01.2022 Photo Friday. Padparadscha Sapphire. Possibly the most misunderstood and misrepresented Gemstone in the trade. A striking blend of orange and pink hues, this striking gemstone owes its name from the Sinhalese word for Lotus blossom. Once seen, never forgotten!

20.01.2022 "Cornflower" blue Sapphire. One of the most striking colours of blue Sapphire and perhaps my favourite. This beautiful 3.41ct stone hails from the beautiful island nation of Sri Lanka.

19.01.2022 My favourite things! Wine, cheese, grapes and gems, what a delicious combination!

18.01.2022 Tanzanite. Within sight of the majestic Mt. Kilimanjaro, the district of Merelani is the source of many fine gems and is best known for Tanzanite. Varying in colour from a soft, lilac blue through to an intense violet blue, Tanzanite is a relative newcomer to the trade having been discovered only in 1967.... Named and promoted by Tiffany and Co., Tanzanite has quickly gained great popularity around the world and is found only in the African nation of Tanzania.

17.01.2022 Tsavorite. The vibrant green member of the Grossularite Garnet family. Named after the Tsavo National Park that straddles the two African nations of Kenya and Tanzania where it was found by the Geologist, Campbell Bridges. Varying in colour from a mid, slightly yellowish green through to an intense blue green, it is in my mind one of the most beautiful coloured gemstones available on the market.

16.01.2022 Just in! New arrival from the cutter, a stunning parcel of assorted Morganite. An intense, pure pink from Madagascar, material of this colour is becoming increasingly difficult to find. Love it!

15.01.2022 It's time for one of my favourites to feature again, African Paraiba Tourmaline. This striking pair hail from Mozambique, measure 9x6mms and look absolutely fabulous.

15.01.2022 Ruby. Perhaps the most important member of the Corundum family and most definitely the most expensive. Traditionally the finest and most important source of Ruby was Burma. However, of late, the African nation of Mozambique has established itself as a key player in the market with exceptional examples and significant production of this magnificent stone.

15.01.2022 Afghan Tourmaline. New to the range, a striking E/C mint Tourmaline ring in Platinum and 18kt yellow gold. Whenever a gem stands out I enjoy taking the opportunity to have one of my talented friends help me design and manufacture a beautiful piece of jewellery. In this instance a 2.72ct mint Tourmaline from Afghanistan.

13.01.2022 Seldom does a stone come along that is as exciting as this. A loupe clean Rubellite from the African nation of Nigeria. Generally, Rubellite is a striking red or pinkish red Tourmaline that, due to its geological formation, is generally quite heavily included. Finding a loupe clean example, particularly of an intense colour, is extraordinarily rare. Very Excited!

13.01.2022 Bi-colour Tourmaline. Traditionally, bi-colour Tourmaline, also known as "Watermelon" Tourmaline, transitions from pink through green. This beautiful baguette cut Tourmaline features a beautiful mint green through to a pale citrus yellow colouration and offers a rather unique alternative to bi-colour Tourmaline enthusiasts.

12.01.2022 Afr. Paraiba Cab. Paraiba, that truly unique member of the Tourmaline family, coloured by Copper and exhibiting stunning neon blues and greens. Nothing quite exhibits the true colour of a gem more than when it is cut en cabochon.

09.01.2022 Sapphire. New arrival from the cutter, just in time for the end of September, the birthstone for this month, Sapphire. Found in every colour of the rainbow, except red, Sapphire remains one of the best known and most loved and appreciated gems of both modern and ancient times. ... Beautiful, durable and, in some cases extremely rare, Sapphire, in recent times, has become a great alternative to Diamond as the choice for engagement rings.

07.01.2022 Sapphire. Perhaps the best known colour of Sapphire, this beautiful radiant cut hails from the island nation of Sri Lanka, one of the most prolific and best regarded sources of this beautiful gemstone. The radiant cut, a cross between an emerald cut and a princess cut, allows us to see the true colour of the gem along with the added brilliance of a brilliant style of cutting.

07.01.2022 Natural red Spinel. Perhaps the star of the gemstone world, Spinel has gained worldwide recognition and popularity over the past several years. Available in almost every colour, it's the vibrant reds that have seen the most dramatic climb in both popularity and value, along with the incredibly rare cobalt blues. ... This striking red gem hails from Tanzania, one of the most prolific sources of Spinel of late. Other important sources are Burma, Vietnam and Sri Lanka.

07.01.2022 Platinum "Tennis" bracelet. This striking die struck Platinum Diamond bracelet features 56 round brilliant cut Diamonds and measures 19cms in length and consists of beautifully matched Russian cut Diamonds of the highest colour. Previously known as Eternity bracelets, the term " Tennis bracelet" was said to be coined after a Diamond bracelet worn by tennis great Chris Evert broke during a match in the U.S. Open in 1987.

07.01.2022 Aquamarine. A very welcome newcomer to the range, a stunning cushion shape Aquamarine. Traditionally from exotic lands such as Brazil, India and Mozambique, this beautiful sky blue member of the Beryl family varies in colour from a pale greenish blue through to an intense, almost steel blue.... Regarded as the finest colour, the Santa Maria colour from Brazil is exceedingly rare and highly prized. Santa Maria Africana, an almost identical colour from Mozambique, is a somewhat newer arrival and a little easier to procure.

05.01.2022 Pink Spinel. Hailing from the Pamir mountain region of Tajikistan, this striking pair of dusky pink Spinels highlights just one of the multitude of colours found in the Spinel family. With Cobalt blue and red being the rarest, and most valuable colours, Spinel is also found in brooding colours, including grey, a favourite amongst the industry over the past years. ... Also found in Burma, Tanzania, Sri Lanka and several other locations, these beautiful gems are causing a sensation around the globe.

05.01.2022 Wishing all my family, friends and colleagues a very happy New Year. May 2021 bring with it great health and happiness. Cheers

04.01.2022 Pink Sapphire. Pink is but one of the colours of the Corundum family, perhaps the most prestigious of all the gem families. Found in mainly in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, Burma and East Africa, pink Sapphire is a favourite in the industry. Varying in colour from a pale, baby pink through to an intense, purple pink, the value, as with most gems, increases as the colour intensifies.

02.01.2022 Green Sapphire. Just one of the multitude of colours available in the Corundum family, this striking green stone hails from Madagascar. Recut in to the Asscher cut from a cushion shape and with no treatment, it is a rare find.

Being a member of the Garnet family, this stunning gem is also the birthstone for the month of January.

01.01.2022 Sapphire. In keeping with Sapphire birthstone month, another new arrival. An unheated cushion shape Sapphire in a colour that's been extremely popular over the past few months. Described as "teal" or "seafoam", these slightly green or grey blue Sapphires have been in great demand of late.

A member of the Zoisite family, Tanzanite is the transparent blue variety of this fabulous gem. A relative newcomer to the market it was discovered in 1967 and was named by the famed Tiffany & Co.... This striking Asscher cut is another of the latest arrivals from the cutter and to say I was thrilled would be an understatement. I love the Asscher cut as it highlights the colour of this fabulous gemstone and it's a very welcome addition to the stock.
