Each vertical forest, which equates to 20,000 square meters of forest, moderates temperatures, absorbs CO2 and filters out dust particles. It also protects residents from noise pollution and creates a microhabitat for birds and insects. The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is the first sports venue in the world to close the loop on organics recycling, with an on-site organics dehydrator. Waste from food and turf materials is treated in house and turned into a soil additive, which is used to sustain the heritage-listed Yarra Park that surrounds the stadium. The MCC has a strong belief in the importance of operating in an environmentally responsible way and we are prepared to try new things for the benefit of the wider sports and venue industry." Members have come forward indicating a willingness to support the bushfire efforts, and there will be an impact on members both now and during the recovery. As custodians of the built environment, facilities management professionals are integral in responding to the devastating effects of the current bushfires.
