Brightly coloured costumes, face paint of bright coloured skulls and skeletons, flowers and decorations adorn this event and music and parades fill the streets. Offerings are made to lost loved ones and candles are lit at altar, or ofrenda, built in private homes and cemeteries to welcome those lost back to the living, marigold flowers are most often used as there petals guide wandering souls back to their place of rest. The smoke from copal incense, made from tree resin, transmits praise and prayers and purifies the area around the altar. This tradition has spread in popularity around the world and makes a lovely way to remember our lost family and friends <3
