We are so proud of you, girls!
24.01.2022 Today our Years 7-12 students enjoyed participating in Fahans annual Winter Sports Day. It was wonderful to see the girls enthusiasm, spirit and friendly rivalry throughout the day, where the sporting line up included AFL, netball, dodgeball, volleyball, flags and tug of war. The hotly contested Staff v Students soccer and tug of war competitions saw the students take home the win in both events! Thank you and congratulations to all involved.
24.01.2022 As the weekend draws to a close, we are delighted to celebrate the 2020 Fahan Alumni Reunion. Over two days, more than 120 alumni from selected year groups reunited with former classmates at our popular cocktail party in the TM Hall. A delicious high tea was held the following day and included an amusing Q&A session with Fahan alumni. A lively rendition of the School song rounded out a fantastic weekend of laughter and memories for all involved!
23.01.2022 As part of their Music elective in Semester 1, our Years 9 and 10 students further developed and extended their practical music-making skills through performing works in an ensemble. The girls have applied their knowledge and understanding of the style, structure and conventions for refining their musical performance and it came together beautifully in the last week of Term Two. Enjoy this wonderful rendition of Titanium to take you into the weekend!
22.01.2022 Our Nateby Club members enjoyed a relaxed lunch last week at Driftwood Restaurant in Lauderdale. 21.01.2022 Our Year 7 girls have enjoyed a busy term studying Physics, culminating in the construction of their very own model roller coasters! During the term they have learnt about different types of forces and how they can be measured. They also compared the difference between energy transfer and transformation, learnt how they could maximise the potential energy and the effects of friction on braking distance. The girls discussed the Law of Energy Conservation at various points of their design with all of this theory rolling up nicely into how a roller coaster works.
21.01.2022 Yesterday, our Years 9-10 Outdoor Adventure Skills (OAS) and Years 9-10 Sport Science class travelled together to kunanyi / Mount Wellington, enjoying near perfect conditions. The OAS class had a snow walk scheduled and the Sport Science class were participating in an outdoor pursuits unit. The road to the mountain had just opened so both classes were able to travel to the summit. From there, they walked down the Ice House track and cut across to the ZigZag track before heading back to School. The girls loved the experience and were very grateful to be out and about in such amazing conditions!

16.01.2022 Today we said goodbye and good luck to an exceptional group of Year 12 Fahan girls. At an assembly in the Gym, which was live streamed to Senior School classes and family unable to attend, the girls played their leavers’ video; were beautifully serenaded by our Year 3 girls singing Till We Meet Again; presented some thoughtful gifts to staff and were treated to a stunning acoustic version of Pete Murray’s Opportunity by Year 12 teacher, Mr John Williamson. Following this,... the Year 12 leaders, Sasha, Asha and Elsie, presented the inaugural Helen Stephen Memorial Award to Mr Robert Owens with a beautiful speech about the qualities he possesses that echoed those of Mrs Stephen. The Award was a legacy gift left by the Year 12 Leavers of 2019. At the conclusion of the Assembly, the girls were farewelled by Principal, Mrs Penny Curran-Peters who wished them well and best of luck for their exams and they also received a care pack from the P&F. We look forward to welcoming the girls back for Tossing Out! See more
15.01.2022 Our Lumina 9 students were delighted to see their fundraising efforts come to life today as they handed over two bikes to two very deserving children, an initiative driven by Variety Tasmania’s Bikes4Kids program. This charitable program is close to the heart of our Fahan girls as it aims to give the gift of freedom, independence, exercise and joy to children. We are very proud of our Lumina 9 girls.
14.01.2022 Its always fascinating to look back and see how the School has evolved over time. We are sure the founders, Miss Travers and Miss Morphett, would be pleased to see how their belief that young women could achieve anything has continued to be evolved in the development of our expansive and beautiful campus, whilst still remaining true to their values and ethos. Its quite amazing to look down at Fahan from the sky and compare these two aerial photographs, they show so clearly... how far the landscape has developed both within Fahan and our surrounds. The Boarders Flat, in front of Nateby House, was used by the girls for their physical training in the early years and is still a much-loved area for our current students today. The Barn, relocated successfully to the Oval in 2017, made way for our state-of-the-art Food and Digital Technology Hub which was opened the following year. We hope you enjoy this collection from our Archives.
13.01.2022 The Fahan School P&F will be holding a special Fathers Day draw this year to celebrate all our hardworking and caring dads in the Fahan Community. All Fahan fathers will go into the draw to win a Myer, Bunnings or State Cinema voucher, along with some craft beer and wine, and the three winners will be drawn on Facebook Live next Thursday 3 September at 11am. We hope you can tune in and good luck to all our dads!
13.01.2022 Our Junior School girls were excited to celebrate Book Week at an assembly that was live streamed to parents this morning. With the theme of ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’ our Year 6 leaders invited students and staff to the stage to share their favourite character from a book. The love of reading was on display with an array of animals, ninjas, princesses, Harry Potter characters and even some cheeky Minions! Our Junior School Chair, Isabel Baddiley, cut the amazing Book Week cake and this was enjoyed for morning tea after the assembly.
12.01.2022 Our Years 9 and 10 Digital Design students completed a real world design brief this term. The girls were tasked with creating a new sticker decal for the entrance door to the Digital Technology Hub. There were 18 wonderful designs produced and it was incredibly difficult to narrow down to a top 5, let alone chose a final design. All the girls produced incredibly well thought-out, creative designs and our congratulations go to Matilda in Year 10, whose imaginative design was chosen for production and will feature on the door for years to come.
12.01.2022 We recently captured Fahans beautiful gardens and grounds from up above. Our outdoor classroom is an inspiring and nurturing learning environment that is shared by all our girls in Kindergarten to Year 12. We hope you enjoy this birds eye view!
11.01.2022 We are delighted to share that Fahans much-loved and long-serving former teacher of French, Madame Joan von Bibra (pictured far left), has been awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for her service to education and to professional organisations. 09.01.2022 Our Kinder Year 2 girls were excited to connect with each other in their Vertical Groups today. They worked on a number of projects including, constructing machines or animals, preparing potato plants to grow in the garden, developing characters and scenes for stop motion videos and creating their own edible gardens in cooking. The mixed-age sessions offer a variety of benefits beyond the learning activity including mentoring and behaviour modelling, confidence and capability building. We look forward to sharing how these projects develop in the weeks to come.
08.01.2022 We are proud to share the news that Fahan Alumna, Captain Phillipa Hay (Class of 1992) of the Royal Australian Navy, has become the first Australian woman appointed to command a task force in the 49-year history of Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC). Phillipa features on the decades wall in the Fahan Archives where she states that she believes that the life-lessons she learnt at Fahan still shape her. Im passing on that wisdom to my own children, she says. Never forgo an opportunity. Never hesitate. Never doubt your ability. And never, ever forget your hymn book! The program, which groups girls from Kinder to Year 12 in families within their School House groups, builds positive relationships amongst students, providing the younger girls with a strong and visible support network throughout the school. Big Sister, Little Sister families are named by character strengths such as Bravery, Fairness and Honesty. After assembling in the gym, each family followed the ‘bunny’ footsteps, trailing down to the oval where they enjoyed a special appearance from the Easter Bunny!
04.01.2022 Our recent Fahan fitness challenges have proved very popular, with our girls requesting a program to boost their fitness over the holidays. Skippered by Fahan alumna, Madeline Salter ('14), the crew included Meg Goodfellow ('18), and Year 12 students, Emily Nicholson and Amy Potter. Fahan teacher and alumna, Felicity Allison, gained support from the Fahan School Alumni Association (FSAA), to provide an ongoing opportunity for past Fahan students to come together with current Year 11 and 12 girls on the water. 03.01.2022 We are so proud of all our Fahan rowers for their performances at the Head of the River at Lake Barrington yesterday! There was so much to celebrate from our U13s all the way through to our Open Firsts. Over the course of the day, in sometimes challenging conditions, our girls showed the true Fahan spirit impressing all with their willingness to support their crew mates, sometimes rowing up a year group or stepping in a coxswains, all the while exhibiting great sportsmanship.... Congratulations to all the crews for their commitment and dedication throughout the whole season. There were so many exciting results across the year groups including our Open Eight Firsts team who rowed spectacularly in the last 250m to take out second place! Our Open Eight seconds crew also placed second and, in another fantastic result, our Under 16 Eights crew won their race for the first time in Fahan's history! Matilda Cocker backed up her win last week as the State All Schools Champion in the Under 14s Singles Scull to take out the title at Head of the River also and our Opens Coxed Four also had a brilliant win! It takes a whole community to achieve great success and a huge thank you goes to all our rowing coaches, families, staff, alumni and support crews that cheered the girls on yesterday. What a fantastic end to the season!
02.01.2022 Our Year 5 girls recently created a series of stop-motion animation films, choosing a wide array of animal species to feature. Stop-motion uses intricate film techniques by capturing frames of a physical object that is moved very slightly for each frame. The finished sequence is sped up to create an illusion of movement. Our students embarked on their projects with great enthusiasm, thoroughly enjoying the scriptwriting process and discovering new digital software and techniques.
02.01.2022 The TM Hall came alive today with the sound of rock music for the inaugural Year 6 Battle of the Bands! In a wonderful show of collaborative spirit, and using the leadership skills they have developed over their last year in the Junior School, the girls were tasked with forming the bands, deciding on a name and style, selecting a song and learning new instruments. They worked so hard over the last four months and impressed the excited audience with their incredible performances in a hotly contested battle. The group Outbreak declared the winner and a surprise performance by the Music staff rock band was a great way to end a fantastic concert!
02.01.2022 Congratulations to our Years 9 and 10 girls who won the 2020 Science and Engineering Challenge at the Hobart City Hall today! 30 Fahan girls took part in various challenges that utilised many skills including teamwork, communication, and creativity. Throughout the day, they built a water turbine, a hovercraft and sent code using pulses of coloured light. Seven Hobart schools competed in the Challenge and we are so proud of our future engineers for taking out the win! A highlight of the day was the hovercraft group, who grappled to get their vehicle off the ground. With patience and perseverance, their hovercraft became quick and agile, leading them to win the challenge. Well done, girls!

01.01.2022 Our Years 11/12 Outdoor Leadership class returned last night from a challenging bushwalk to the Lake St Clair area, which formed part of an assessed component of their course. The outdoors is the best classroom and the girls were extremely grateful for the opportunity to put the theory into practice by walking into Shadow Lake and Little Hugel. The group were challenged by extreme conditions but we couldnt be prouder of their efforts and attitude throughout the experience. The Year 11/12 TASC 3 Outdoor Leadership class focuses on developing leadership skills through experiential learning. The course has a number of core elements, including trip preparation, leadership theories, and group management. Well done girls!
01.01.2022 This term, the Year 8 Science classes have been studying energy and energy efficiency. They have put their new knowledge to good use, and have designed a scale floor plan for their own energy-efficient houses. They have incorporated design features that take advantage of passive solar energy principles, such as the direction their house is facing, eaves and use of deciduous trees. They have also included features such as double or triple-glazed windows, insulation, pelmets and counter-current heat exchangers. They had the choice of creating a scale model of their house, or creating a real estate video show-casing their house. We are very proud of the hard work they have put in, and all that they have learnt this term, well done girls!
