25.01.2022 Kiosk outlet construction: Question: Why do we install kiosk outlets with our boreholes? Answer: For sales of water... Ground water generated from boreholes is usually provided for free to community dwellers in Nigeria. Since boreholes are used for free, there are usually no funds allocated to maintain or service the borehole when they break down, often leading to their abandonment. This frequently requires community dwellers to find alternative supplies of water which may include unsafe and unhygienic sources. Sales of water through water kiosks will generate funds to maintain sustainable, safe and affordable drinking water sources, benefitting urban and rural communities where ‘on tap’ supply is not available. #cleanwaterforall #sustainability #Mission2030 #UNSDGs

22.01.2022 Our local professionals are building a borehole and Sustainable Water Kiosks for the benefit of Irewolede, Ifelodun community, Ibadan Oyo State. This initiative will alleviate extreme water poverty for Irewolede community by providing access to clean drinking water for more than 1,000 people in that community. Currently, majority of the inhabitants in Irewolede depend on unimproved water sources such as unprotected wells and ponds for their daily supplies of water. This ma...kes Irewolede dwellers, especially children, predisposed to waterborne diseases such as diarrhoea the cause of over 70,000 deaths to children in Nigeria, each year. The project, when completed, will provide social and economic benefits that will extend to poverty alleviation, improvements in health and education as well as enhanced dietary standards in Irewolede community. FAIRACTION will employ a local person to be employed as the borehole’s kiosk attendant, who will be responsible for maintaining the borehole. There will be a minimum fee charged to all borehole users, and the funds generated will be used to cover the costs of maintaining the facility, thereby ensuring 100% functionality and sustainability of this life-saving water infrastructure. #cleanwaterforall #sustainability #UNSDGs #Mission2030 #water #nigeria

18.01.2022 Working in collaboration with Essential Need Project, FAIRACTION has embarked on a research and mapping project to ascertain where the 55 million Nigerians who lack access to clean drinking water live; the interrelated challenges they face, and how a sustainable water solution for their communities can be provided. Our research work can be viewed on our Target 6.1 Map at https://fairaction.com.au/target6-1-map/ Significance of location to meet SDGs: Location and geography ar...e significant to most of the elements of Sustainable Development Goals. It is, therefore, not a surprise that geospatial data is as important to sustainable development goals as the demographic and statistical data. To truly harness ‘data’ to meet the Agenda 2030, there is a need for integrating geospatial data with other available datasets so as to create visualizations through maps or 3D models which shall only help in evaluating impacts, monitor progress and improved accountability. (GEOSPATIAL WORLD). For governments and NGOs to formulate strategies, they need to identify where the citizens are and where the root of the problem lies, and this is where our Target 6.1 Map comes in. #cleanwaterforall #water #UN #sdgs2030 #nigeria #sustainability

07.01.2022 THE TRADITIONAL APPROACH DOES NOT WORK: The traditional development cycle is an approach whereby donors fund water infrastructures such as boreholes and wells, which government or NGOs install. The results are measured and reported back and the cycle repeats. Often what we end up with are broken and abandoned boreholes and wells. Over the last 20 years, donors and investors have provided assistance of over $2 billion of concessional loans and donation to support the Niger...ian water and sanitation sector, yet the progress made has been extremely slow. Currently, 58% of Nigerian water infrastructures are non-functional. Despite well-intended efforts, intervention attempts to sustainably lower this statistic have been largely unsuccessful. In response to this challenge, FAIRACTION has spent more than 4 years working in collaboration with other charities, government departments, and professional organisation to develop a holistic solution to the water availability issues. FAIRACTION’s approach targets technical, social, financial, institutional and environmental factors collectively so that they interact with each other to create lasting sustainability of the water infrastructure in Nigeria. FAIRACTION’s approach ensures the sustainability and bankability of water infrastructures, generating USD $2.93 dollars for every USD $1 spent. These financial figures does not include the social and economic advantages to millions of people who will benefit from the changes to their livelihoods. Taking these benefits into account will significantly increase the return on investment of FAIRACTION’s water projects. Our Strategic approach is captured by the following five areas of priority: * Innovation and Technology * Construction of Infrastructures * Governance and Management * Water Sales * Maintenance and Capacity Building To learn more as a potential partner, donor or investor, email us at [email protected] #cleanwaterforall #UN #sdgs #nigerians #Mission2030

02.01.2022 We are excited to get going on our mission of clean water for all again in 2021. FAIRACTION aims to construct 9,200 solar powered boreholes in Ekiti, Osun and Oyo states between 2021 2024 to meet the water demand in these areas for an estimated 4.6 million people. On average, each borehole will generate an estimated 20,000 litres of clean drinking water per day, totalling 184,000,000 litres from all 9,200 boreholes, daily. #mission2030 #unsdgs #cleanwaterforall #water #un
