24.01.2022 What a privilege it was to be asked to read to some of the children at the Point Cook Library last weekend. The book I selected was Were the Wild Things Are which is one of the books that I enjoyed reading previously to my own grandchildren. This event was run in order to encourage children and their parents to read from an early age with the view of making reading a life time experience how good is that. This event was organised and run primarily by Kumon, a local educational provider.

24.01.2022 Infrastructure before development. In my extensive talks with community groups during this election campaign a strong message has been received from residents over the lack of infrastructure that is needed to cope with the increase in population. I would like to assure residents that if elected I will continue to oppose developments such as the Point Cook West development and other residential developments in Wyndham until the appropriate infrastructure is provided. State and federal governments must do much more to provide the infrastructure needed for our community.

23.01.2022 Swimming pools: If elected to council I will be strongly advocating for a swimming pool for the growth areas in Wydham as I believe that learning to swim is one of key skills that we should provide to all children and adults in our community. The location of swimming pools in the local area is important for a number of reasons; the local pool can be used for children’s learn to swim programs to reduce accidental drowning; they can provide a social gathering place for parents attending the pool and a local pool will reduce vehicle travel and the need for public transport. I would also support the idea of establishing a multi-sports facility that would have a swimming pool as a central component. My picture is of my grand child learning to swim.

19.01.2022 Fifty thousand jobs: These are the number of projected jobs that would be created at the proposed employment precinct over the next 30 years. This is the projection from the Growth Area Authority who are the responsible government agency established to oversea a plan for the creation of jobs at the employment precinct which is located in land at the back of the hospital and police station in Werribee. Information on this exciting plan was presented at a function which I atten...ded last Friday night at the Melbourne University Veterinary School to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the State Research Farm here in Werribee. This is undoubtedly a fantastic project that has the potential to solve many of the major problems here in Wyndham as it would: reduce the need to travel to Melbourne for those employed in the precinct, generate opportunities for local businesses and create many more local jobs. These jobs would be mainly professional although there would be many service jobs created as a result of this wonderful project. See more

19.01.2022 We are fortunate to be living in a wonderful multicultural community. Just last week I was asked to attend a classical musical festival which featured a number of young children and young people presenting a number of singing and musical items from many parts of India. This event was organised by the Ragaamrutha Musical School who are doing a great job in teaching many young people classical Indian music. It was a wonderful occasion. Pictured are all of the performers.

16.01.2022 Auskick success: The AusKick programs this year in Point Cook has been a wonderful success with up to 500 boys and girls participating in the excellent workshops run by up to 50 parents. What an outstanding result for the local community. Special thanks to Paul and Fiona Pritchard and Paul Harmer who have been the program coordinators for Auskick for over the last few years. There is no doubt the Auskick program is a great example of what our community can offer our young people. Well done to everyone involved including the volunteer instructors and all of the support staff. I wish the new coordinators all the very best for the 2013 season.

15.01.2022 As a current council member of the Suzanne Cory High School in Werribee I was invited, along with other council members and the principal of our college, to visit the Nossal High School in Berwick. Nossal College is a sister school to the Suzanne Cory and is one of three public schools in Melbourne which select students from an entrance examination. The architecture of the school is impressive and is designed to provide the students with an opportunity to fulfil their potential in subjects covering the sciences, music, arts and drama. It is a privilege to be associated with our local school which also has some great design features and offers a great learning environment.

14.01.2022 Not all beer and skittles. Just a short note to say that being a councillor invariably involves a lot of hard work and taking responsibility for difficult decisions. Under the current governance model councillors are expected to be a member of a number of internal committees as well as attend many social functions. One of the major internal committee’s I am on is the steering committee of the Aquatic and Events Centre. I am the current chairperson of this committee. This is ...a very large $61 million project that is looking into the design and plan of the new upgrade and how this upgrade can be managed during the construction phase of the project. I am also on the committee for the Refuge Disposable Facility which has a multi-million dollar budget and has recently introduced a number of important recycling initiatives at the tip. More details on the committees that I and other councillors are members are listed on the Wyndham City Council website. See more

12.01.2022 Have you visited my website yet? You will find more information on what I stand for, recent activities within Wyndham and my accomplishments as a Councillor. Let me know what you think.

11.01.2022 Had a great experience last weekend attending a guided tour of Cobbledicks Ford Reserve, one of Wyndham’s best kept secrets. The tour was conducted by Frances Overmans with assistance from John Forrester, council staff and other Werribee residents. This reserve is adjacent to the Werribee River which was in flood so it was a unique experience. It was wonderful to see this reserve finally reopened for the public to enjoy. Cobbledicks Ford Reserve was originally very popular with some of Werribee’s original settlers who visited the park frequently for family picnics. It is situated at the end of Doherty’s Road in Werribee. Well worth a visit!

09.01.2022 The results of the council election are now out and I am delighted to have been a successful candidate in the Harrison Ward receiving close to 20% of the vote the second highest in Wyndham. The other successful candidates in this Ward were Glenn Goodfellow, Intaj Khan and Adele Hegidich. I would like to thank all of my friends who gave me fantastic support in distributing flyers, displaying billboards, and who assisted in the campaign. I can assure everyone that I will doing my best to serve all residents over the next 4 years.

06.01.2022 The traffic congestion problem: At a recent council meeting I had an opportunity to move a motion to council to reject a planning application for a new residential development at Point Cook West until funding is provided by Vic Roads to construct a new freeway interchange at Sneydes Road. Council has now provided $10.4 million to duplicate Sneydes Road up to Hacketts Lane in an attempt to persuade state government to funding the freeway interchange at Sneydes Road. I fully supported this advocacy campaign which hopefully will result in funding for a new vehicle exit and entry point to the Princes freeway this would be a great outcome for the local community. 04.01.2022 Chemical Drop Off Day. If you have any unwanted chemicals stored at home consider taking advantage of the offer by Wyndham City Council to dispose of these products at the council depot next Saturday, 24 November from 8.00am -4.00pm. These chemical products include household cleaning products, out of date weed killer, used brake fluid and paints. To take advantage of this offer you will need to register for this free service on 1800 353 233 or contact the Wyndham City Council on 9742 0777.

04.01.2022 Local Swimming Pools: I am a strong advocate for the establishment of swimming pools for the new growth areas in Point Cook and Truganina as part of a multi-sport facility. The location of swimming pools in the local area are important for a number of reasons: the local pool can be used for children’s learn to swim programs to reduce accidental drownings, they can act as a catalyst for community engagement involving young parents and they will reduce travel expenses by having a pool in close proximity. A win-win for all.

03.01.2022 Traffic Congestion: One of my main aims if elected to council would be to strongly support an advocacy campaign requesting state and federal government to fund key satellite roads in order to relieve traffic congestion in Wyndham. Statistics on traffic volumes has indicated that all of our satellite roads are now close to capacity. Figures from a 2011 traffic survey show that Point Cook Road averaged 22,700 vehicles per day while Boardwalk Bvd and Sayers Road averaged 21,600 ...and 21,600 vehicles per day respectively. It is certainly pleasing to hear that the state government has recently allocated funding for lights at Forsyth/Old Geelong Road intersection which is a great start. However additional funding is required for construction of an interchange at Sneydes Road, the duplication of Sayers and Leakes Road and to build an extension of Old Geelong Road to Palmers Road. I will be working hard with residents, community groups and council to support an advocacy campaign to fund these major road works. See more

02.01.2022 Point Cook West clarification. The Truganina Ward councillors have worked closely together over some time to oppose the development of the Point Cook West until the infrastructure is provided to accommodate the additional residents. This has resulted in two motions being moved in council one of the motions was moved by Cr Goodfellow on the 23rd January (Item 7.1 page 243) which is a brief note which states in summary that council receive a report on the history of the st...ate owned land in Point Cook and address what powers that council has to require the state government has to meet deficits in infrastructure At the 27th February meeting of council Bob Fairclough proposed a substantive motion which stated that council oppose the Point Cook West Precinct Structure Plan (Amendment C163) until some outstanding issues had been resolved including a commitment from VicRoads for the construction of the Sneydes Road/Princes Highway interchange[Item 6.4.2, page 84]. Both of the above motions had the same purpose to oppose the Point Cook West development until the necessary infrastructure was put in place. A response to Cr Goodfellows motion was subsequently reported in the April meeting of council[Item 6.5.1 page 132]. I hope this clarifies the issue of who and when raised the motions at council. 01.01.2022 Kids teaching kids is a program designed to encourage school students to share their knowledge on topics which are of interest to them. I attended one of these programs at the Carranballac College on Wednesday this week and was very impressed by the enthusiasm of the children in this exciting new approach to learning there was minimal input from teachers! This project was on the conservation of our local wetlands and included a summary of the many creatures living in the wetlands, what they ate and the effect of pollution and litter on the health of the wetlands. A great idea.
