12.01.2022 Kindergarten - We have been learning about the continents and learnt there are seven and Australia is one. On Monday we looked at Antarctica and talked about how cold it is and watched some clips about the ice breaking off. We talked about what would happen to the ice if our world keeps heating up and "with melting ice" it will hurt the animals that live there and the lands around will have too much water. There was a song about the 7 continents we listened to and it taught u...s about all the continents. Using a tub and ice with blue water we had a sensory activity to explore the water of Antarctica. Kyian, Michael, Laila, Lachlan, and Logan explored this with Miss Lynda. Kyian said "it falls down" as he touched the ice. Lachlan noticed "Look at that crack". Logan said "OH that’s cold" when he touched the water. Michael and Lachlan recognised that penguins live in Antarctica. Michael asked "what would happen if the ice smashes?" Miss Lynda "What do you think will happen?" Michael "I think it would crack". Some of the children took the temperature of the water "It's freezing" they said. Amelia P added "It will crack and break off and melt in the water. It's very cold" and "Whales and seals and penguins live in Antarctica". Amelia D "Penguins". Lachlan "Cold, very cold". Thomas "There's penguins there. Cold, really cold, there's whales and there's lots of water". Today we continued to learn about the continents, singing the "Seven continents" song and recalling the names of all seven. We talked about what animals live in Antarctica and watched some clips showing us the animals. William said the polar bears are white "So they can hide", Laila said the animals need to eat. Addison said "Penguins lie their babies on ice". Willow "Snow birds have big wings and their mums teach them to fly". Again we had blue water with ice and Antarctica animals and we watched the ice crack, Archer P said "The ice is cracking", Stephanie "the water comes down", Everly touched the water and said "Feels cold". Evelyn "It’s cold". See more
