25.01.2022 Honestly, you guys are AWESOME!! *Thank you* for signing and sharing our petition to help keep our great GPs practicing. Here are just a few of the recent comments at http://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-stop-the-freeze-on-g "We call upon your government to immediately end the freeze to GPs Medicare payments and start to respect the immense work, effort and stress our GPs go through every day, for the sake of our citizens’ health." A.P... "Isn't it obvious?. We need doctors and for there to be both enough doctors and good doctors they need to be paid well. Do this!" T.P. "Fair go to our doctors and hospitals - we are so under resourced. There is so much waste by both levels of government and the perks by politicians is shameful - we need our GPs so am signing this petition" A.T "These GP's need our help. And we in turn NEED our GP's." P&B. P. "I am signing because the family doctors are being slowly but surely stripped of their entitlements. The GP is the first stop for sick people, and keeps the strain off hospitals. The doctors are conscientious, honest and have truly helped untold numbers of patients who would otherwise overflowed hospital emergency centers. Give the doctors a fair go.....get off their backs, and let them get on with their honest and much needed work." M.C "I care" G.J What's your favorite comment on the petition calling for the end to the freeze on GPs' Medicare?

24.01.2022 Following on from our post last night: http://www.facebook.com//a.157264947795243/436144903240578 How does it feel to have been one of the first in Australia to have seen this demise of the medical profession coming? Those of you who have supported us over many months can take credit for being not just fair and reasonable, but also judicious. ... Once again - any of you wonderful people want to consider politics? Our major parties *desperately* need an overhaul, and some credible other parties would be an excellent idea too.

23.01.2022 Lose-Lose or Win-Win? Most modern business organisations understand the value of "win-win" situations. That is, situations where everyone in a negotiation comes away with a good outcome from the exchange. To achieve this, what is necessary is that parties are willing to attribute good will to the other side - who they regard as collaborators - and to trust that a gain for one need not mean a loss for the other. However the very worst outcome, is where "lose-lose" situations o...Continue reading

22.01.2022 "Canberra's 18,000 empty desks cost the taxpayer $5000 a pop" So once again it's clear there's money in the federal kitty! (Just not for GPs eh....??)... "The federal public service has been paying rent for almost 18,000 empty desks in Canberra alone and a total of 34,000 vacant workspaces in offices across Australia. The federal government's large-scale problem of paying for phantom office space is revealed in a Finance Department list that has been given to Parliament's public works committee this week. The list shows Canberra has a 22 per cent vacancy rate in its Commonwealth-leased buildings which means 17,536 desks are sitting empty in the nation's capital. The public service has been renting office space for 4948 empty desks in NSW, 3552 in Victoria, 3157 in Queensland, 1970 in West Australia, 1431 in South Australia, 599 in Tasmania and 448 unmanned work stations in the Northern Territory. The cost to rent enough space for one desk has been conservatively estimated at $5000 a year by Fairfax Media, but it could well be more meaning the cost to taxpayers was at least $170 million a year. The most vacant work points in Canberra were 745 at ABS House in Belconnen, another 703 at 50 Marcus Clarke Street, a building leased by the Department of Education and Training, followed by 641 at 21 Genge Street in Civic, leased by the Australian Taxation Office. There were 606 at Campbell Park in space leased by the Defence Department and another 521 empty desks at the Sirius Building leased by the Health Department in Woden. All of these leases had a higher vacancy rate than the national average. Numerous leases held by the Department of Immigration and Border Protection, which was in the process of consolidating its 5500 ACT staff into one place, had a total of about 1200 empty desks in Canberra. The list detailing vacancy rates for 195 leases held by the federal government in the ACT handed to the committee this week was dated September last year. Some inroads may have been made to change the empty space held in some of the buildings since the list was compiled. Austender records show the Department of Education and Training has just spent $40,000 to relocate staff to 50 Marcus Clarke Street. A spokesperson for Finance Minister Mathias Cormann said the list would help the committee scrutinise proposals from government departments and agencies wanting to sign new leases. "This is inherited inefficiency," the spokesperson said. "The former government signed up to many of these leases, while the vacant desks are mainly the result of job reductions which the former government set in train. "Under Labor individual agencies were responsible for managing their own vacant leases." Senator Cormann has launched Operation Tetris to move agencies into vacant leases instead of signing up to any new leases. Leases will now be considered at a whole-of-government level." 22.01.2022 It's 2017, and we're still breathing here at Fair Go for Doctors. Thanks only to you!! Many blessings on you all for your unstinting support. ... And may 2017 finally be the year that 4750+ Aussie GPs stop being secretly paid only half the normal Medicare.for their great work. http://www.fairgofordoctors.org/what-how-is-this-legal/

22.01.2022 When will the Federal government stop the freeze on the Medicare of 5000+ Aussie GPs, that was secretly instituted in 1992? These GPs have been on half the usual GP Medicare for years now, and they don't see even 1 cent of the various "incentives" given out to other GPs. Only when this appalling discrimination is stopped will the government prove it is genuinely committed to the "Fair Go".

22.01.2022 As you know, the LNP Federal Government has continued the freeze on GPs' Medicare payments, that the former ALP Government started in May 2013. The freeze on all GPs' Medicare is (at this point) set to finally end in 2018. Information circulating in the medical media says that Federal Health Minister, Sussan Ley, has privately promised a small group of GPs that she will 'end the freeze ASAP'. This has not been said publicly. ... We call upon the Minister to publicly commit to ending the freeze on GPs' Medicare payments. Otherwise we might as well wonder whether "ASAP" is now simply an acronym for "As Soon As Politically-expedient".

21.01.2022 So much talk in the media and government at present for a "Fair Go" for this group and that group... But never, *ever*, do politicians and the media come clean about a "Fair Go" for these 4700+ Aussie GPs secretly paid only half Medicare.

21.01.2022 To: Tony Abbott, Prime Minister of Australia and Sussan Ley, Minister for Health: Stop the freeze on GPs Medicare! Redfern GP forced to close his GP practice after 34 years, due to Medicare freeze The other day Dr Adrian Jones, a GP in Redfern, had to shut his medical practice after 34 years. The only reason he had to take this drastic step was because he couldn’t make his practice break-even, due to the continual devaluation of money paid to GPs through the Medicare system.... And so it begins. First one hardworking, dedicated and conscientious GP, and then another and another, will have to shut down their independent medical practice. Prime Minister, have you forgotten how hard these doctors had to work to be able to care for us? These individuals are some of the best and brightest in Australia. They had to work so hard for years and years just to get the crazy marks to study Medicine in the first place; Then there were the further years of study at the highest and hardest level; Years of sacrifice of their social life, other interests and family time; Years of horrendously long hours; Years of worry for the very lives of their patients. Prime Minster, why is it fair to leave such hardworking professionals out in the cold? We call upon your government to immediately end the freeze to GPs Medicare payments and start to respect the immense work, effort and stress our GPs go through every day, for the sake of our citizens’ health. http://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-the-hon-tony-abbott-

19.01.2022 Why you haven't heard from us in a while... Have you ever had the experience of when the sheer enormity of an evil hits you in the face and you're rendered speechless? Well, this happened to us a couple of months ago, when we realized the full-picture of the socialist plan for complete control over the Australian medical profession....Continue reading

19.01.2022 "What goes around comes around"... even in medicine. "When Dr Michael Shannon saved the life of a premature baby 30 years ago, he would never have thought decades later, the favour would be returned. KTLA reported on Sunday the incredible story of two men in California who saved each other's lives in two very different ways. ... The news station said that Dr Michael Shannon, a paediatrician, found himself pinned inside a burning vehicle after a car accident in 2011. One of the rescue workers who had helped to free the seriously injured Dr Shannon from the car was Chris Trokey, a young Orange County Fire Authority paramedic. When Mr Trokey visited the hospital where Dr Shannon spent 45 days recovering from internal injuries, he realised that the man he had helped save was the man who had given him the gift of life 30 years earlier. According to KTLA, Mr Trokey was born weighing just 1.5kg, and was given only a 50 per cent chance of surviving. Dr Shannon worked around the clock in an effort to beat the odds and stabilise the baby boy. After seeing Mr Trokey once again at a recent cancer fundraiser, Dr Shannon told KTLA: "It's amazing to watch them all grow up, but to have one come back in your life, on a day you really need it, that's really incredible." Mr Trokey is now father to a son, and you guessed it - Dr Shannon is the boy's paediatrician." Isn't this such a lovely story :) http://www.essentialbaby.com.au//premmie-saves-doctors-lif

18.01.2022 "Doctors at the coal face need support, not cuts." P.B at http://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-stop-the-freeze-on-g Thank you to every fair-minded Aussie who is supporting our GPs... while the mainstream media just ignores this.... Fair go.

18.01.2022 Oh the benefits of Facebook! When the mainstream media ignores you, you can at least try to get the truth out anyway. :) Wishing all our awesome supporters a wonderful weekend. You've taken the time to be well-informed, and we really thank you for that.

18.01.2022 Australia's secret shame: 4762 Aussie born and trained GPs are only paid half the usual GP medicare. The so-called Australian "Fair Go" is a sick joke. And the track record - from *both* major political parties - regarding this secret discrimination since 1992 is completely appalling.

18.01.2022 Today a very mild-mannered Australian doctor, who you would call an ordinary guy in many ways (and he would be very happy to be called that) is doing something pretty damn brave. Here's to Dr Peter, President of Fair Go for Doctors. No matter what happens in the Federal Court today, he's this page's Cinderella Man, and he carries the future of over 4750+ GPs - and their families and patients - with him.... This morning we dedicate this movie clip to him, and we thank you for standing quietly in solidarity and spirit with him. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=83Jr_6b9pHA :)

17.01.2022 Doctors, if you're unwell, it's okay to have a sick day! *Doctors feel pressure to work when unwell* A recent US study has confirmed a fact many doctors are already well acquainted with - that most doctors are reluctant to ever take a sick day. Among the more than 500 health professionals surveyed at a US paediatric hospital, 83% admitted attending work despite physical symptoms of being sick themselves... Almost 99 percent didn't want to let their colleagues down, Almost 95 percent had concerns about staffing, 92.5 percent didn't want to disappoint their patients, 64 percent were worried about being ostracized by their colleagues, Almost 64 percent were concerned about continuity of care. http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlinepl/news/fullstory_153440.html During this winter cold snap, we want to send a message to our wonderful doctors, that if you're unwell *it's okay to have a sick day*! This is another example of where doctors' altruism can wind up doing more harm than good. Not only is there a risk to patients - especially those who are immune-impaired - of passing on infective illnesses, but it also sends the wrong message to health administrators, who will simply assume there is no need to allow for sick time by medical staff. Let's support our doctors, in sickness and in health. :)

13.01.2022 You know, this incessant talk in the media of a "fair go for all" is getting really nauseating. Media outlets *continue* to erase our comments in their publications while spouting this myth. The "fair go" has not been a reality for many years, since over 5000+ Aussie-born and Aussie-trained GPs were secretly discriminated against in 1992. They're only paid half Medicare for the exact same work and responsibility... and the Australian media actively works to hide this fact.

13.01.2022 Wherever the art of Medicine is loved, there is also a love of Humanity." Hippocrates (The creator of the Hippocratic oath that doctors used to take.) Wishing you all a truly blessed Christmas and a peaceful New Year :)

12.01.2022 "Australian and ashamed of how hard-working doctors are being treated." Thank you to J.K. for this fantastic comment on our petition, to help keep GPs able to practice. http://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-stop-the-freeze-on-g

11.01.2022 Please Australia, support our doctors. A shameful secret indeed: Australian bureaucrats and politicians are determined to utterly control, and denigrate, these dedicated - truly inspirational - professionals

09.01.2022 Imagine if you were a business owner who had constantly tried to cut your workers wages, and then, when there was an outcry, you instead froze their pay for 5 years. For 5 years is the total of the Medicare freeze (that we currently know of! Who knows when it will *really* end...) The ALP federal government started the freeze in 2013 and the LNP federal government has just kept extending it. According to statistics, about 85% of all GP consults are "bulk-billed". That means f...or those services that is ALL the money that the GP's practice will get, before it tries to pay all its myriad costs, after which the GP will then finally start getting paid... before tax. http://www.fairgofordoctors.org/all-gps-are-rich-right/ Prime Minister, have you forgotten how hard these doctors had to work to be able to care for us? These individuals are some of the best and brightest in Australia. They had to work so hard for years and years just to get the crazy marks to study Medicine in the first place. Then there were the further years of study at the highest and hardest level. Years of sacrifice of their social life, other interests and family time. Years of horrendously long hours. Years of worry for the very lives of their patients. Prime Minster, why is it fair to leave such hardworking professionals out in the cold? STOP the Medicare freeze, Prime Minister, before more general practices go to the wall. http://www.change.org/p/prime-minister-stop-the-freeze-on-g

07.01.2022 As Valentine's Day approaches, we would like to recognize the continual love and support that the spouses, and families, of these Aussie GPs on half Medicare have given to them since 1992... 25 years of secret governmental discrimination is a *long* time. 07.01.2022 Federal Court Outcome: Decision reserved. This means that the Judge hearing the case has decided to take more time to review the evidence and the law, and will publish his decision in due course. It's been a tiring day for Dr Peter. By all accounts from those watching in Court he did really well over almost 3 hours of intense legal argument. Considering he was self-represented and is not legally-trained, for him to get this far gives cause for hope.... We'll put up an in-depth post over the next few days to explain more about what exactly went on. But for now, all we know for certain is we're at a crossroad... and that you're quietly waiting here with us. And *that* is a great comfort :)

05.01.2022 We know, better than most, the stressors that can drive a doctor to suicide. So much of the blame should be laid at socialist bureaucrats' feet. They have been working to completely control the medical profession for years... And it shows.

05.01.2022 World Medical Association defines the need for a Fair Go for Doctors! http://www.newshub.co.nz//medical-association-unsure-oath- Today we are sharing an article about a recent amendment to the Declaration of Geneva - a pledge of ethical professional behaviour for doctors created by the World Medical Association. Popularly referred to as the "Modern Hippocratic Oath", it was formulated after the Second World War and is currently the most widely accepted modern codification ...of medical ethics. The Hippocratic Oath, some 2500 years old, is still the basis of the new version, but is rarely used today (after all, few can in conscience make a solemn oath "by Apollo"). There have been five revisions since the original document was created in 1948. <> Of particular interest to Fair Go for Doctors, the latest proposals incorporate as a new ethical precept: "I will attend to my own health, well-being, and abilities in order to provide care of the highest standard." The clause was actually proposed just last year by a NZ doctor, Dr Sam Hazledine, and quickly acquired thousands of signatures from other doctors in Australia and NZ - bringing it to the WMA agenda. The positive response of thousands of doctors clearly shows doctors are under enormous stress working within health systems and especially from health bureaucracies. It sends a signal to politicians and health administrators, that it is not ethical and not acceptable to place doctors under a moral burden to work without regard to their own health and well-being. It also provides an international precedent for doctors to stand up against bureaucrats and refuse to keep providing "care to others" with no regard to their own care. We consider this is a true principle for a "Fair Go for Doctors". Lets all remind our local politicians to stop taking doctors for granted, and acknowledging the importance of giving all doctors a "fair go". Thank you World Medical Association and thank you Dr Sam Hazledine.

05.01.2022 A young friend starts work at a well-known retail chain tomorrow. The normal hourly rate is more than an intern's. To work at the retail store, you just have to be able to serve customers! (A year 10 student could do it.) Compare that to being a doctor.... SHAME ON AUSTRALIA.

05.01.2022 We're thinking tonight of all the doctors working across Australia this weekend - often exhausting themselves so that we can have excellent medical care, 24/7. Our sincere thanks goes out to you, and all the members of Australia's wonderful health care teams, for your consummate dedication and your expert care.

04.01.2022 If you’re going through Hell, keep going. Winston Churchill. This coming Monday, one lone Aussie GP will stand up in Court and personally fight for the principle of a Fair Go. Facing him will be the might of one of Australia’s most expensive legal firms, hired by the Federal Department of Health to stop 4750+ Aussie GPs uniting to fight the pay discrimination of half Medicare for the exact same work and responsibility. ... (These GPs, whose Medicare was secretly frozen in 1992, are identical in every way to the majority of their colleagues who all get the normal GP Medicare payments. The Medicare of these 4750+ GPs was frozen as part of the bureaucracy’s determination to control the medical profession. http://www.fairgofordoctors.org/what-how-is-this-legal/ ) For anyone who wants to come and learn about this discrimination first-hand, the court is open to the public and here are the details: Date: Monday 7th March Time: 10.15am Presiding Judge: Justice Griffiths Address: Federal Court, Queen St Sydney The Court is directly across the road from the Hyde Park Barracks and adjoins St James Church. Without all your encouragement there is no way we ever could have got this far! Thank you, most sincerely, for your magnificent support :)

03.01.2022 "The GP's late AGAIN..." The language in this blog is "fresh", shall we say. But since it gives another indication of what GPs actually do all day we believe it is useful to post here. 03.01.2022 http://www.couriermail.com.au//62ca18bb958e3b6e2b13c16ed65 Is this something to celebrate? Despite decades of slander, it is safe to say that after spending years in studying, training and practicing medicine, almost all doctors are committed to helping those who are sick, without regard to their level of income. Doctors have no interest in patients being unable to afford access to crucial health care services. But they also have to be able to afford to provide that care. ...Continue reading
