25.01.2022 The highlight of the day was hiking to the top falls at En Gedi. It was easy to visualise David here - hiding out from Saul in the caves, sourcing water in the stream, and composing some Psalms in the beauty.
21.01.2022 My birthday balloons - given to me by my fabulous group of young adults who floated them out in the Dead Sea to give to me while we were having a float! Thanks again guys - you are awesome - what a great birthday!
17.01.2022 Nazareth Precipice - believed to be the site where the Nazarenes attempted to throw Jesus off a cliff but He walked away. Many in the group found a spot to get lost in the wonder of the view. Cyclamens grow wild here - they are Israel's national flower.
15.01.2022 With recent rains Banias Springs (ancient Caesarea Philippi) was looking magnificent.
13.01.2022 Our do-it-yourself breakfasts in Jerusalem. Easy-peasy, scrummy and super cheap. Really helped keep the costs down for those travelling on a budget.
12.01.2022 Floating in the Dead Sea - quite an awesome experience!
11.01.2022 Masada - both a tragic and beautiful place where the Jewish rebels suicided rather than surrender to the Romans. Those serving the Israeli Defence Force today take their oath on the mountain.
10.01.2022 Sepphoris is close to Nazareth, was being built during the years prior to Jesus commencing his public ministry and is likely the place where He worked as a stone mason / carpenter. Per usual the group generated a heap of fun - cramming into a chariot together, taking group photos, and re-enacting the story of Samson in the ancient theatre. Note the beautiful mosaic found in a Roman villa - dubbed the Mona Lisa of Galilee.
06.01.2022 The Sea of Galilee - such a special place knowing that Jesus was here.
02.01.2022 The Church of the Annunciation is believed to be the site where the angel Gabriel visited Mary to tell her she would be the mother of Jesus. Note the two sections of the church - upper with the pipes, and lower where the ancient cave is located.
02.01.2022 Mt Arbel is the likely place where Jesus gave the Great Commission to His disciples. It was so insightful to see how Jesus used the geography of this place - the top of a mountain overlooking the main roads that connected the major civilisations to Israel and each other. Such a strong message that the church was to be missional, pro-active, and a movement in action. From these roads the gospel was to go to the world...
02.01.2022 A surprise stop shortly after we crossed into Jordan was Pella - the city that the Christians fled to in 70 AD. They took heed of Jesus' instruction in Matthew 24 to flee when Jerusalem was surrounded by the Roman army. Unbelievably the army briefly withdrew and the Christians, remembering the command, took the opportunity to flee. They sheltered here, in what was one of the cities of the Decapolis. It was also the birth city of Alexander the Great.
02.01.2022 Jordan River - here two of our group made the public decision to walk with Jesus for the rest of their lives. Leah and Kiera - we are so proud of you. As Ross was giving his message just prior to the baptism, we had a lady ask if she could join us and be baptised also. She gave a beautiful testimony which was translated by her tour guide. She had been waiting for 10 years to be baptised in the Jordan River and was so happy. Our group eagerly embraced her, and so instead of two baptisms, there were three! What a privilege for Ross and I. It was truly a beautiful experience.
