22.01.2022 We’re back, & back with a bang! Marc Wrobel got in touch with the Museum last week. His father (Janusz Wrobel) was heavily involved in the development of Falls Creek in the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s as a ski lift engineer. Marc found these two large prints of lots of employees gathered over a lift station. So today’s quiz is four fold. 1). Name the building in the background. 2). Which lift are the people posed on? 3). 21.01.2022 DGR. Deductible Gift Recipient. We are now endorsed as a DGR recipient from the 1st of December 2019. This allows us to receive gifts which are tax deductible to donors. This is very exciting and is a culmination of some hard work by the committee and a committment to correct policies, procedures and practices within our Historical Society. A maximum of 6 people will be allowed in at any one time. Marc was sorting through his father’s belongings and found this architectural (or engineering...what is the correct terminology?) plan of The International Poma that Janus Wrobel helped to build. In Museum terms, this find is pure gold! An original drawing of one of the most iconic lifts at Falls Creek (some mi...ght say in Australia), especially as it is still in operation today. 02.01.2022 Vale Julian Newton-Brown. It is with sadness that we hear of the passing of Julian Newton-Brown, peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his loved ones. A stalwart of Falls Creek, a lover of the mountains, the snow and everything about the beautiful surrounds of the High Plains. Julian was a contributor to the Falls Creek Historic Society on many levels, not only providing items for the museum but valuable information and was always available if we needed a story verified ...or recounted. Julian would stand in the museum and recount stories like they were yesterday captivating an audience with his enthusiasm for the history of Falls Creek. Julian worked for the SEC in the test laboratory at Rocky Valley reading weather instruments. He was a pioneer of Falls Creek, his love of the village goes back decades, he built Arundel (now Elk), created many memories at Julian's Bar, was a member of the Falls Creek Chamber of Commerce, a member of the SES, a stakeholder, an author and documentary maker; the list is long of Julian's contributions since he arrived in Falls Creek.
