23.01.2022 Here’s a funny bit of trivia. I checked the KFC Twitter account and it is true! (Screenshot below)

22.01.2022 We celebrated our quarter century of virtual quizzes tonight - whoo hoo! 25 fantastic and fun trivia nights since we started in this medium back in late-March. Thank you to every single person who has played at some stage over this long and winding road. I hope to be able to see you all in person soon enough at The Dingley Hotel, but we await further instruction. I will advise you all as soon as I hear anything. It was a fun night tonight - perhaps more than previous shows. F...or some strange reason teams had a penchant for re-counting their scores over and over and over. I felt under enormous pressure; like a County Polling Station Official in the backwaters of Georgia. I think I even heard banjos playing at some stage. The glorious winning streak of The Odd Bods finally came to an end tonight. They claim that their wi-fi connections were playing up, but without Dr Karen and Prof Jimmy tonight, it was a hard ask to win four on the trot. Congratulations to The Bubbly Queens and Semolina Pilchards on their tie for First Place. Both teams scored 88 pts from a possible 92. Fantastic quizzing indeed. In fact the top eight teams all scored in the 80s. Very close and very good fun. Take care over the next week or two and I look forward to seeing you all again soon. Thank you for playing. PS. Happy Birthday to Michael (Bugsy) from 'Lazarus' and Norm from 'The Odd Bods'. Thank you both for sharing your birthdays with us tonight at trivia.

21.01.2022 Sorry for the delay folks... have been caught up with things at this end. The weekend went by in the blink of an eye. Just putting the finishing touches to the questions as Week 26 of trivia is definitely ON tomorrow (Tue 24th Nov) at 7:30 pm. I’ll schedule the Zoom meeting tomorrow morning and will post the details here.

21.01.2022 Virtual Trivia is on again tomorrow, folks. Our 25th gig! Details below. See you tomorrow.

20.01.2022 Thanks to the 16 teams that participated in Wk 24 of Virtual Trivia tonight. We'll return to the normal transmission of Tuesday night for the next gig. Congratulations to 'The Odd Bods' and 'NuGenius' on their dead-heat for First Place tonight - both finished on 66 points, from a possible 71. Great effort from both teams, especially as I tried to make this quiz a bit more difficult! For the next quiz, it looks like I'll have to put away the Funk & Wagnalls (young people - loo...k that one up!) and open up the magnificent Encycolopaedia Brittanica! Special mention to 'The Odd Bods' who have now 'done a Hawthorn' and won three in a row! With Melbourne opening up now and still approximately seven weeks until Christmas, I cling on to the hope that pubs will soon be able to host reasonable-sized crowds, so that we can return to The Dingley Hotel Sports Bar for at least one trivia night in 2020! Otherwise, hopefully January.... ...but I must say, I do love these virtual gigs with you all. I have met quite a few new players through this, which has been wonderful. Plus, when we return to The Sports Bar, we will sadly lose our players from Newcastle, Cairns, and the UK (and a couple from Mentone too). I may have to sneak in a virtual quiz every now and then just to keep the band together! Until the next instalment, enjoy getting out and about in our wonderful city again! Also, please enjoy Katy Perry and Taylor Swift below as the burger and fries, which featured in one of the questions tonight! Thank you all.

20.01.2022 Another week of Virtual Trivia tomorrow night - whoo hoo! Please see connection details below. Due to so many people playing now, it does take a bit of time to set everyone up at the start. So tomorrow I will be on a little earlier - will aim for about 7:10 pm. When you connect I will assign you to your team room immediately. You can then go off and do what you need to do and return at 7:30 for the start. Once everyone has connected, I'll start the quiz at 7:35 pm at the latest.

18.01.2022 Given that today is "National Be Someone Day" in the US, it seems that the Rock wants to be me! ...after all, I have been wearing this pink jacket long before him! (Thanks Linda from 'The Two Wise Guys'!) It was a good fun night of virtual trivia tonight and I must congratulate 'La Triviata' on their win. I do love these Tuesday night sessions with you all - it is so great to see so many friends from the Dingley Hotel, as well as meeting new players who cannot attend the no...rmal pub gigs. It was especially nice to catch-up tonight with Sharon and Colin who were regulars for many, many years for Wednesday night FAME Trivia before they moved to the other side of town and we moved to Tuesday night! They were the original team 'Jinx'! Have a great week and please look after yourselves. I'll be back online again next Tuesday. PS. Oh yes, thanks so much for joining the quiz early tonight. It made a huge difference and the whole process went smoothly. After 16 weeks, I think I'm finally getting this virtual thing down-pat...

16.01.2022 Thanks to the 15 regular virtual trivia teams for another fun night. Tonight we had the first themed quiz, with all questions relating to TV or movies. It was a nice change and something different. Congratulations to 'Low Expectations' on a rather comfortable win in the end. Great stuff! We'll return to the normal trivia categories for the next quiz. As for themed quizzes, 'TV & Movies' is a good, broad topic that every player will have at least some interest. Other topics a...re not so easy to do ... from my experience hosting quizzes for so long, half the audience always hates it when I ask sporting questions, and similarly, many players hate music questions! ....but leave it with me.... I like to think I am an Ideas Man and will come up with something as a suitable theme! I've got it! ....anyone interested in a combined quiz focussing on the history of The Beatles and the Hawthorn Footy Club? Sorry, but I am still struggling a bit with time - and especially next week with school holidays starting - so I'll persist with the fortnightly quizzes for a little while yet. Let's all try to enjoy a bit of our lovely spring weather over the next couple of weeks. See you all soon! Thanks again!

16.01.2022 For those of you who are not members of the FAME Trivia Club, please do me a favour and go to our website, www.fametrivia.com.au and sign up. The link to the FAME Trivia Club (FTC) is found in the menu items at the top of that website. My boss, Tim, has been sending trivia questions to all members each week during the pub shutdown. For those who are not yet members, below are his questions for this week (I’ll post the answers here tomorrow). Also, The Dingley Hotel has the mo...st FTC members in Victoria. Thanks to all who have joined! Tim and I have a running sportsman’s bet to see whose venue can get the most... his Sydney venue is in front of us by about 50 members! We can’t have that!!! 16.01.2022 Best wishes to all of the Fame Trivia patrons at The Dingley Hotel for the New Year. With all the challenges thrown up in 2020, we rose to the occasion beautifully and found that we could still enjoy trivia nights, albeit via a virtual medium. Better still, the virtual shows allowed us to connect with friends and family interstate and overseas, which we could not have done otherwise at The Sports Bar. ...speaking of which, I was at The Dingley Hotel today having a Pepsi (tru...e) with a good friend of mine and I saw the lovely Sheena - Events Manager Extraordinaire. The latest intel is that the Sports Bar will remain essentially untouched, except for revamped toilets. A total makeover of the Sports Bar is slated to take place in another couple of years. Anyway, the venue is planning a launch at the end of March to mark completion of phase one of the refurb. So all going well (ie COVID staying contained and pubs open) we may be back to face-to-face trivia in early-April! Whoo hoo! Best wishes to you all for a safe, healthy, productive, and enjoyable 2021! Thanks for your support of my virtual trivia nights this year.

13.01.2022 Hi everyone, the details for trivia are below. As per last week, if some of you could please start joining from about 7:10 pm, that would be very helpful. You can sign in, join the breakout room and then just leave it alone and come back to your device at 7:30 for the start of trivia. A steady stream of people connecting between 7:10 pm and 7:30 pm is preferred, rather than 60-odd people all connecting at 7:25! Thank you. See you tomorrow.

13.01.2022 Virtual Trivia this Tuesday night (15th Sept) will be our first themed quiz: ALL questions will be from the small screen and the silver screen. Something a bit different, so let's see how it goes! Zoom Meeting ID: 830 8039 1314 Passcode: 283215... I'll be on-line from about 7:10 pm to allocate people to their breakout rooms, given that many do not have a Zoom account set-up. NB: For all subsequent quizzes (i.e. after this one on TUE) you will need to have a Zoom account or you will not be able to join the meeting. I will tick the box that says "Only authenticated users can join the meeting" because this will allow me to have Zoom pre-assign all players to their Breakout Rooms, so that we do not have to waste 20-25 mins at the start of every quiz.

12.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who has participated in my virtual trivia quizzes at some stage of the year since I started (waaaaay back) in March. Twenty-eight shows down with the promise (threat?) of more to come, as we wait for The Dingley Hotel to finish renovations. These virtual shows have been the highlights of my year, so I thank you all for giving up your time to join me. Your support and friendship have been wonderful and has certainly helped me through a difficult year. Bes...t wishes to you all for a safe and relaxing break over the Christmas and New Year period. Whatever this season means to you, I hope that it is enjoyable. Merry Christmas! Thank you, Eugene

12.01.2022 Mr Andrews announced that from 22nd November venues will be able to accommodate up to 100 patrons indoors. Fingers are crossed that FAME Trivia will be able to return to the Sports Bar at The Dingley Hotel for a few shows this year! #TheDingleyHotel... #FAMETrivia See more

09.01.2022 For Virtual Trivia this fortnight, I have a Trivial Pursuit theme. Hence, there will be an extra round of questions on Tuesday, so it may finish a little later than 9:00 pm. We will have six rounds: Rd 1. Entertainment Rd 2. Art & Literature Rd 3. Geography Rd 4. Sport & Leisure... Rd 5. Science & Nature Rd 6. History Zoom meeting ID = 885 7840 2559 Zoom passcode = 255509 I'll be on-line at about 7:15 pm and will start allocating people to their Breakout Rooms. Hope to see you then!

09.01.2022 Everyone welcome to the final virtual trivia night for 2020 on Tuesday 22nd December. It will be a themed quiz focussing on Christmas trivia and some newsworthy events of 2020. Whilst on Tuesday night at about 9:30 pm when I sign-off after the quiz, I am sure that I'll be sad* that it is over for the year and will already be looking forward to the next quiz, but I think it best that I take January off from trivia - which is what we do each year in the Sports Bar at Dingley an...yway. We will re-convene the virtual gigs on Tuesday 2nd February 2021. *The prospect of some late-night shopping at Chadstone after the quiz will be needed to perk me up!

08.01.2022 Greetings Virtual Trivia players. Thanks to those who tried to join the Zoom test this evening. A number of players were unable to connect, which suggests that they have not set-up a Zoom account. The paragraph below is from the Zoom website: -----------... A Zoom account is not required if you are strictly joining Zoom Meetings as a participant. If someone invites you to their meeting, you can join as a participant without creating an account. However, if the host has restricted joining meetings using authentication profiles, then the participant will need a Zoom account to access the meeting. ----------- I can see that this is somewhat confusing! As above, you can download Zoom and connect to the virtual trivia nights without ever having created a Zoom account for yourself. This has worked for the last 20-odd weeks of virtual quizzing. That is why no-one had problems connecting, as I had never restricted connections. ...however, to save 15-20 mins each week by not having to allocate every player to a Breakout Room when they connect to the Tuesday virtual trivia, I can get Zoom to do that automatically with a simple click of a button. Two seconds and it is done! Beaut! ...but for Zoom to do this, I have to initially set the meeting up with restrictions so that only authenticated users can join the virtual trivia. Players who have not created a Zoom account, are therefore not authenticated users, and therefore Zoom will not let them join. Even if you have provided me with an e-mail address, it does not matter, as it is not linked to a Zoom account. There are two screenshots I have posted below. Please click on each to see the full image. In the first screenshot image below (features a blue bird flying): To check if you have set-up an account, please go to 'My Account' when in Zoom. I have circled this in pink. In the second screenshot image below (the one with the red circles): Once in 'My Account' then select 'Profile' from the left. You should see your name and an account number (top red circle) and your linked e-mail address (bottom red circle). So for next week, I will revert to the old way we have done it for the last 20-odd weeks. That is, I will schedule the meeting without restrictions so all of you can connect. Over the next week or so, if you could please try to create a free Zoom account, that would help me for future weeks as I can restrict access to authenticated users, which in turn will save a lot of time with the allocation of players to Breakout Rooms. (I am an inherently lazy sod!) Sorry that this is such a long post. Hopefully it clarifies the issue. Have a great week and I'll see you next Tuesday. (Happy to set-up another test Zoom one night before next Tuesday if there is sufficient interest. At the end of the day, whilst I am lazy and would like to save 20 mins at the start of every quiz, I do not want anyone to miss out on joining in the virtual trivia gigs just because they have not set-up a Zoom account)

08.01.2022 Another fun night of virtual trivia was had by all this evening - thanks to those who participated. I admit that I fell at the last hurdle and inadvertently classified Cindy Crawford as an actress, rather than a model, for the last of the three $64 Round questions at the end. ...but someone did come to my rescue and advised that Cindy did indeed star in the film 'Fair Game' with William Baldwin! So technically, I was correct and I think that we should all agree that my ques...tions are fantastic, engaging, and accurate! ...hehehe ..... OK, so maybe that is a long bow to draw! Tonight was Week 18 of the virtual quiz, and I did say at the onset back in March that I would keep running these quizzes for as long as the pubs were closed and until we can re-convene at The Dingley Hotel. .... however, I may have to renege. Things at work are becoming more complex and time-consuming (working in the Higher Education sector during this time is rather gloomy), and my wife resumes teaching this week (yep, Higher Ed sector too .... lucky us), and we have home-schooling to juggle also. As my wife is teaching and marking assignments, I'll have to do more home-schooling during the day, which means that my regular day job will have to creep into the evening hours (well, much more than usual, anyway). Something will have to give, and it may be trivia every now and then, I am afraid. As I am a trivia (and PowerPoint) nerd, it does take me quite a few hours to put together the weekly virtual quizzes. Unfortunately, this means that some weeks I may not have sufficient time to put together a good quiz. I'd rather take a week off here and there, rather than presenting an ordinary, unimaginative and a non-engaging quiz! I'll keep everyone informed on Facebook each Monday as per usual. You are all so kind and lovely with your comments on Facebook and also during the Tuesday night quizzes, so I already know that so many of you enjoy and appreciate these virtual quizzes. No need for further comment below. ... you don't want my ego to get out of control! Apologies for this long post. Thanks for reading. Thanks for playing. Have a great week!

08.01.2022 Footpath trivia outside my house for today...

08.01.2022 Trivia returns this Tuesday - for our 20th Virtual Trivia Show. No need to login to Zoom too early - I have received e-mail addresses from about 40 players, so will try to use Zoom to its full capacity on Tuesday, by having it automatically assign those 40 players to their breakout rooms. To do that, I need all of those 40 people who have provided me their e-mail addresses to be logged in to Zoom by 7:25 pm please. ... For the remaining 25-odd players, I will add you to the breakout rooms manually, after I have opened the Breakout Rooms for the others at 7:25 pm.

08.01.2022 Two years ago ... vale Gerry Marsden.

07.01.2022 Happy New Year trivia lovers. I hope that you all have been well. With the renovations at The Dingley Hotel still in full swing, the return of face-to-face trivia will be delayed. Hopefully we can start in April, but I will confirm here on FB of course as soon as I hear anything official. Therefore, in the interim, I will continue with the virtual quizzes that served us so well in 2020. At this stage, these are the dates that I will aim for, in terms of virtual quizzes: Tue ...9th February Tue 2nd March Tue 23rd March If I don’t see you online, I’ll see you in the Sports Bar soon!

07.01.2022 What an amazing night it was, this time last year.... I am so lucky to have been placed by FAME Trivia at The Dingley Hotel 10 (or 11?) years ago. Such a friendly, loyal crowd of regular trivia players, wonderful staff, and supportive management. Even if it takes a few more months before we return to The Sports Bar, I am happy to wait.

06.01.2022 Sorry everyone...

04.01.2022 Hi all, confirming that we are on again tomorrow night (TUE) for another virtual trivia gig. I'll be online from about 7:15 pm to allocate players to the rooms. See you then!

04.01.2022 Sorry everyone - I need to take a bit of time off from trivia. This means that I won’t make my target of 20 weeks in a row. So close, but yet so far. Not sure when the virtual quizzes will return.... but when they do, I’ll announce it on here as usual. Stay safe and take care of yourselves and your loved ones. This lockdown will not last forever!

03.01.2022 Greetings everyone, Wk 18 of Virtual Trivia is on tomorrow night (TUE 4th August). Zoom connection details are below. As per the last two weeks, if we could have staggered connections between 7:10 pm - 7:30 pm it would be very helpful please. I'll be on at 7:10 pm, so those who join early can join their breakout room and then come back at 7:30 pm when the quiz will start. See you tomorrow.

02.01.2022 It’s official - I can start listening to my Elvis and Dean Martin Christmas albums now.

02.01.2022 To the regular players of my virtual trivia gigs: I have purchased my own Zoom licence, so will no longer be using the previous connections via Monash Uni. If you have the site bookmarked, you may need to change it. To use Zoom to its full capability and have players pre-assigned to the Breakout Rooms, there is a box for me to tick when setting up the meeting called "Allow only authenticated users to join", which I will do from now on. It is a pain to manually allocate 70-odd... players at the start of every quiz, wasting about 15-20 mins! To do this, I need your e-mail address that you used when setting up Zoom. Thank you to all who have e-mailed me. I have about 50 addresses, and should be able to manually add all remaining players to their rooms. So all good. So to test all of this, I am setting up a test session tomorrow (TUE 8th) at 7:30 pm for those who wish to test their connectivity. Please see details below. If you cannot connect, it means that you need to set-up a Zoom account and login (most of you will already have done this). If you wish to test your Zoom account, you only need to join at around 7:30 pm. It will only take 5-10 mins - I'll open the breakout rooms and hopefully all will work smoothly. If you use Zoom frequently and have a handle on it, then no need to join this test session. I have started on a quiz for next week ... I am looking at my first themed virtual quiz: TV & Movies. Will see if I can assemble sufficient questions - both in quantity and quality! (So no quiz this week - just a test session to ensure that you can connect for the trivia the following week on Tue 15th)
