23.01.2022 Lower Back Pain Shooting pain in the lower back. Trouble standing or sitting. Difficulty lifting household objects. Sound familiar? If those are symptoms youre familiar with, then youre one of the 80% of Australians who have experienced back pain at some point in their lives, and you understand the burden it can place on everyday activities. Back pain (especially in the lower back) is all too common and can make simple tasks unnecessarily difficult.

23.01.2022 Six healthy tips for sitting at a desk all day The typical Australian spends 8 hours a day sitting without taking into account time spent watching TV or completing non-work-related computer tasks. Consider how many hours a day you spend sitting Chances are you spend more time sitting than anything else. Given this, it is important to learn how to sit at a desk and still be healthy. Sitting for prolonged periods of time is not health-promoting behaviour. It can cause weight ...gain, with those sitting for more than 7 hours a day significantly more likely to be obese or overweight than those sitting for less than 4.5 hours a day. Not only this but sitting can increase your risk of back pain, poor posture, leg cramps and muscle tension. Given that most of us dont have a choice and work forces us to sit at a desk for the majority of the day here are some tips for remaining healthy whilst sitting at a desk. 1. Keep your spine in a neutral position This can be achieved by adjusting your chair such that your thighs are parallel to the floor. Your hands, wrists and forearms should also be in alignment and parallel to the floor. Ensure your chair supports your back, particularly the curve in your lower back. 2. Move around often Your body becomes uncomfortable when held in one position for longer than 20 minutes. Try to stand, stretch, walk around or change your position for at least 30 seconds every quarter of an hour. 3. Fuel your body with nutritional sources Healthy eating promotes energy and energy promotes movement. Ditch the desk side junk food for some healthy snacks your body and mind will thank you for it. Feeling active and alert will deter you from sitting for long periods and get you moving to avoid the negative impacts of prolonged sitting. 4. Be wary of your computer monitor Ensure your computer monitor is directly in front of you but at least 50cm away. Also be sure to look away from the screen often, as the light exposure can cause dry eyes and fatigue. 5. Get organised! Declutter your desk and clean your office space. Clutter can impede productivity and lead to unnecessary irritation and stress. Not only is this but your computer keyboard is likely to contain more bacteria than your toilet seat clean it daily. 6. Personalize your space Add some sentimental items to make your desk a more enjoyable place to be at. Pictures, posters, quotes, paintings whatever makes you feel good.

18.01.2022 Mobile Phone and Computer Use Chances are you're reading this while leaning over a table or slumped back in a chair. Your head is tilted forward; your shoulders are curved. If you're on a mobile device, your arms are bent by your side and your back hunch is even more profound. Back, neck, shoulder pain and headaches are common mobile and computer related injuries. Laptop computers were designed to be used for short periods of time when a person couldnt access a desktop com...puter. These days many people use a laptop all the time. Dr Patrick recommends taking frequent 20 minute breaks while using any mobile device or desktop computer. Stand up, roll your shoulders or go for a short walk. See more

16.01.2022 Just wanted to let you know were still here treating patients. Being a small clinic with no staff and a small waiting room, were able to keep things very hygienic. Were keeping the practice super clean by disinfecting the table between patients and all other surfaces frequently throughout the day. Before making an appointment, please let us know if:... -youve travelled in the last 14 days -youve been in contact with a confirmed case -you are experiencing a fever, cough or sore throat. We'll get through this time! PS send us a message if you'd like some suggestions for home exercises/stretches/workstation modifications (if you're struggling being away from your usual workstation or if you're noticing any pains since not being able to exercise as much).

12.01.2022 Posture Our sitting posture is very important. The better our posture, the less stress on our bodies. Good posture is essential in all aspects of our lives, every day. Now that so many of us sit for such long periods, our sitting posture is ever more crucial for our health. Regular visits can help to improve your posture and help to keep your spine moving and healthy. A healthy spine is vital to the overall function of your body. This is why I say; Healthy Spine = Healthy Body = Healthy Life.

11.01.2022 Effects of poor posture: Amount of air inhaled is decreased: As the spine begins to rotate forward, the thoracic cavity is crushed and decreases in size, meaning less air is inhaled every instance. Less productivity: As the brain requires 20% of oxygen to run at its maximal efficiency, poor posture decreases this amount, causing a decrease in efficiency.... Back health complications: poor posture can cause bulging spinal discs, back pain and aches, pressures inside the chest, reflux symptoms, constipation as well as poor blood circulation. Emotional health complications: poor posture also has an emotional effect on people, sometimes making them feel less attractive compared to people with a neutral spine.
