25.01.2022 Adding to our resources is always awesome and soo much play results from new resources. Today we have added a small train table to the room to continue on with our learning about road safety and road rules. It was an instant hit with all the children making a bee line for it immediately and spending a lot of time role playing with people cars and trains the correct way to cross roads and train tracks.
25.01.2022 A lot of the time a parents first question to me is how many children I care for each day? Family Day Care is limited to 4 preschoolers and 3 school age children. Or 7 children in total but not more than 4 under school age. That means your child gets to enjoy a quieter environment. Perfect for those that struggle with larger groups, such as long day care or before and after school care. They also receive more attention from me and only me. There's no shift work, no assi...stants, nobody on work experience, no strangers coming in and out. Its just me! Please be mindful of this as it means that if I get sick......there is no childcare! I also enjoy teaching the kids social skills and getting them into good hygiene and manners as well as developing their independence, putting on shoes, toilet training, educational experiences that promote self help skills, and lots more. The chances of your child getting sick from FDC is limited, I am able to ensure each child practices good hygiene, even before recent health events. During this trying time I am attempting to keep the children and environment extra clean. Steps I have taken include: - I have reduced resources, so they can be cleaned effectively during the day and before the next day of care commenced, - we are also doing a primarily outdoor classroom to help reduce the chance of cross infection. - Also almost all outings have been cancelled except for school runs to reduce the exposure to groups of other people. - Signage and hand sanitiser situated at the entrace to my care environment - extra cleaning of high traffic areas and surfaces including after a child has coughed or sneezed near furniture or resources - and removing any resources immediately if they have become contaminated in any way. I am sorry if I upset anyone by refusing care due to needing a clearance to attend care, especially as it is out of my hands and I am just following the advice I have been given by the department of child safety, Queensland health, Queensland government and my scheme. Parents and us educators need to work together to ensure the health and safety of the little people and sometimes not so little people we care for daily. I hope and pray that none of us have to go into isolation or miss out on care but that is a possible likelyhood just know I am doing everything I can to ensure your childs safety and health and that I will keep everyone well informed on any information that needs sharing. I also ask if parents can do the same, by keeping open and honest communications we can work together and reduce the chances of my service needing to close. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Kate
24.01.2022 Nothing beats outdoor play and learning. Children learn every day and developing their social and emotional skills while having fun outside on climbing equipment is also great for children. Every day the children spend time outside in the play area. We are lucky to have a large yard and they work together to create their own play spaces. Often rearranging the equipment to get maximum benefit from their play.
24.01.2022 Oh the pleasure of uninterrupted time to explore the sandpit. Think of all the learning in this one photo - Sharing Working together Language Fine and gross motor skills... Cognitive and imagination skills Social skills Compromising and building a plan Coordinations of hands feet body eyes. The list goes on. Love this kind of open ended relaxed play See more
24.01.2022 Slowly getting the renovations done to our daycare yard and covering the horrible dirt spot under this tree. We are doing an ocean theme area. Not completed yet but a work in progress.

22.01.2022 Slime is an awesome medium for little Children. The feeling is totally different to anything else, the smell can be changed, the colour and texture can be chang...ed, the ideas are limitless. Children love getting dirty and exploring their work so making and playing with slime is perfect for them. I love how involved the children get in the activity. The big smiles when they watch the glue mix with activator and turn into stretchy sticky slime. How do they learn from slime? By doing, watching and immersing themselves in the experience. Its science! Its maths! Its sensory! Its using new vocabulary to explain the sensations! It fine motor and gross motor skills! Interaction skills like turn taking! And soo much more! Plus its fun!!! The whole experience is awesome!
22.01.2022 Im pretty short and the children are too. But we get along great
22.01.2022 Science week is all about getting the children hands on with science. Our activity on Monday was bicarb and coloured vinegar. This is surprisingly simple and very consuming activity for the children. They loved the bubbles and mixing and storing watching the reaction happen before their eyes and also mixing the colours to find out what colour we could end up with.
21.01.2022 Working together and playing together while communicating our intentions and asking for each others perspective on our designs. The children work together fabulously to create with the wooden blocks. There are some fantastic conversations about colour, shape and size as well as praise from each other on the work we are doing.
20.01.2022 Worried you have coronavirus? Here's the symptoms compared to regular cold and flu.
20.01.2022 Seed planting some herbs so we can plant them in the garden once they start growing
20.01.2022 So today we had a bit of an upset day. We started out with no one being able to park in the driveway as council had blocked it to fix a burst pipe. We went outside for a while but the truck out the front was much more interesting so we ended by going to watch it for a bit before doing some work on learning about fruit and vegetables and their names while colouring them in. At rest time the children only got a short sleep as we had the house down the road catch fire and 2 fi...re trucks, an ambulance and a police car turned up to make noise as well as the digger out the front. So funny that because last week we practiced our fire drill the children heard the fire alarm going off and immediately started their fire drill. Dropping what they were doing, getting my mobile and the emergency bag and waiting at the door to move out the front. Even though the noise happened while they were asleep they immediately knew what to do. Super proud educator moment!! See more
19.01.2022 Our garden area is coming along nicely. All the gardens are surviving so far and we have only lost a few plants to kids and chickens.
19.01.2022 We have started on our Christmas craft. The children are super excited for Christmas so we are making some decorations they can put up at home.
19.01.2022 Feel extremely blessed and wonderfully surprised at the nomination. Wasnt expecting it but thanks to whoever nominated and voted for me. Really appreciate those families who have stuck with me through all of the ups and downs over the past year. Thank you all!
17.01.2022 Good luck to all those parents out their starting their home learning journey. Remember to be kind to yourself and your children! Remember to stay calm!... Remember you are not a teacher but you know enough to help your child with their work! This is a learning curve for everyone!! You got this and good luck!!
17.01.2022 Pretty proud of the children in care. We made some beautiful wreath pictures for when they attend the dawn ceremony and then some Anzac cookies which we ate for afternoon tea
15.01.2022 Mm mud pies! Who doesn’t love a mud pie? There is soo much children have to teach us as adults including how to enjoy our environment. The simple mediums of dirt and water can transform into soo many different things. The humble mud pie. A volcano. A castle with a moat. The possibilities are endless!! Be a kid and enjoy the simple things.
14.01.2022 Yay we got our new step stones and balance beams from Kmart today. A big hit on this cold morning where is was only 18c.
12.01.2022 With a lot of hard work we have finally got our garden up And going. We have soo many plants to plant and this is just a sample. Our chooks love it too so will have to work on making a easy to remove fence for the gardens so the chooks dont eat our seedlings. So far we have mint, thyme, basil, beetroot, pumpkin, sage, sweet peas, and shallots. Tomorrow we have more to plant so the garden will be full.
11.01.2022 The favourite part of the weather getting warmer is a return to water play. Water play is soo awesome. It gives children freedom to make scientific discoveries all on their own. Things like pouring from one container to another uses maths and science. How many scoops fill the container? Is this container bigger or smaller than that one? What floats and what sinks? Not to mention the awesome feeling of getting cooled down.
10.01.2022 Getting ready for Valentines Day with some gorgeous artwork
10.01.2022 Today the children were really involved in the kitchen inside so I decided to bring the kitchen resources from the cubby house into this wasted space area and added some recycled containers and pots and pans and other bric a brac we already had in the cubby house. The children are having a ball pretending to cook all the things they find in the yard. Wasted space converted and cost me nothing!
07.01.2022 We have some new climbing equipment in these beautiful A-frames. Adding planks of wood and some tyres to them has made our obstacle coarse a lot more interesting and added a level of safe risky play for the children to explore. Balancing on the beams when they are up high off the ground is a skill children have to learn! It is not easy for some and very easy for others. I encourage the children to all have a go very often spending my time standing right next to this structure and holding each childs hand as they attempt to cross the plank and slowly building their confidence until they are ready to attempt it by themselves
06.01.2022 We have harvested our potatoes. Some we have replanted so we can have more potatoes. We have donated the potatoes to grand pop ( my dad)
06.01.2022 Our baby chicks are growing soo fast and the children love seeing how big they are getting
06.01.2022 A little revamp to start of the new year
05.01.2022 Learning about fire evacuation and what to do in case of fire in our daycare setting. This is something I am passionate about and I believe children and families of all ages should know what to do in the situation of a house fire. The children practice fire evacuation every month here and I know they know what to do here. At home is a different story but it would be great if everyone had a plan and a practice once a month randomly to make sure children and family members know what to do in a fire emergency.
05.01.2022 Today we had room change. I have been reflecting on my family daycare and how I can better stimulate the children through play and independence. I have observed the children over the past week to determine their preferences and choices and then today I decided to create some interest areas to help the children engage. It has worked wonderfully with all the children positively interacting within the indoor environment in a much better and open way. Less toys and clutter in ...the room and more open spaces has made the children very happy and they have really engaged in their play and with each other. Interestingly enough the children have tended to play as a group in each space and take turns without argument. This has led to a Much better learning environment. We have also moved back to more structured learning with the children having time and space to be but also having some structured learning and the opportunity to burn off energy before learning begins. 03.01.2022 So we have made a start on our vege gardens. I discovered we have corn and pumpkin growing already. Thanks to the chooks. Today we have planted potatoes and are finishing off some herb seed planting. A very productive morning all round.
02.01.2022 Getting a bit more of the yard done. Soft fall has gone down around the swings and we are extending around the pirate ship. Once this is finished we will have the cubby sorted and a great play space for the kids.
02.01.2022 To follow on with the childrens interests today I have purchased some road signs. The children are very interested in road rules and learning about road safety. Thanks to big w we now have road signs and traffic lights

02.01.2022 CopIed from another family daycare organisations post. BLANKET FUNDING OF EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE RELIEF PACKAGE (CRP) COULD KILL FAMILY DAY CARE IN AUSTRALIA The ill-advised Early Childhood Education and Care Relief Package (CRP) could destroy the small ratio, high quality Family Day Care sector. The government funding hasnt considered how Family Day Care operates, only taking into consideration the well-funded corporate Child Care Centre models while ignoring t...he pivotal model of Family Day Care. Family Day Care offers small ratios which means hygiene standards are easier to maintain and it offers an unmatched flexibility in the outside of traditional hours of care for essential workers. Though welcome that the government highlighted the essential role of early childhood education during a pandemic to keep essential workers in the workforce, the funding and legislation is lacking the detail and sophistication that the sector demands. The blanket CRP funding penalises Family Day Care educators who, in the past two weeks have experienced higher demand as their bespoke and intimate offering supports families who work outside of the traditional nine to five hours, largely health care workers and shift workers. Through the CRP package announced yesterday the government showcased a severe lack of understanding of the complexities and demand in Family Day Care. While Long Day Care centres and Child Care Centres have been forced to close because of loss of care, Family Day Care operators have remained open due to the small ratios and flexibility. While the Family Day Care industry has experienced its fair share of absences, withdrawals and closures, the past fortnight has seen a spike in efficiency with higher volume of children in care in some areas, within the operators who are continuing to operate. With the Government now promoting "FREE CHILD CARE", it is expected our hours of care will increase, in that case are our Educators expected to work for nothing? #FDCA #familydaycare #childcarereliefpackage #fdc #kidsathome #kahfdc

01.01.2022 Learning new life skills is always encouraged here at kates. This week one of the children learnt how to independently put on his own thongs. Soo very proud as he has been attempting this for the past 2 months and today was successful. Everyone did a little happy dance with him and gave him high fives. Its the little achievements that can lead to successful life goals for these little people in our care.
