22.01.2022 Chicken Pox... this is going around now - be aware! Even if your child has been vaccinated they can still get this! Often seasonal with a peak in Spring. There are cases in Sydney right now. Symptoms are a fever, runny nose (in my personal experience - a super-runny nose), and then a few days later spots! At first the spots looks like small pimples. These later become blisters full of fluid. And are very itchy.... Because chickenpox is a virus (called Varicella zoster), it cannot be treated with antibiotics. Treatment is about controlling the itching from the rash and other symptoms related to the viral illness. Chickenpox is highly contagious, which means it is very easy to catch. It can be spread by having direct contact with the person who has chickenpox, especially by touching the liquid from the blisters. Chickenpox is also spread by the fluids that are coughed or sneezed into the air. Children with chickenpox should not go to daycare or school until the last blister has dried. Children are vaccinated against chicken pox at 18 months. But they can still get a mild form of the illness even if they have been vaccinated. 01.01.2022 New Blog: Helping Your Family to Thrive in Stressful Times With no end to the sources of stress we are facing as parents, we need to turn our attention to how we are responding to the stress in our lives, how that might be impacting on our children, and how we can turn that around so that we can be an anchor for our child. But how can we turn this around?... We need to focus on ourselves first! Working on self-regulation means finding a way back from states of reactivity or disconnection, to an inner sense of calm, where we have the capacity to truly connect with both ourselves and our child. Some of us have a greater tendency to get stuck in the stress responses, and have a harder time reconnecting with our inner sense of safety and calm after we’ve gone into a stress response. This blog by Sam Cuming, Here With You Parenting explains how we can work with our own nervous systems to become more calm and connected with ourselves and our children. https://www.familyhealthhub.com.au/helping-your-family-to-/
