25.01.2022 Monday's thought from Joyful Expectancy Oracle cards for pregnancy and birth. A beautiful reminder to find time for stillness in our busy lives. As well as to listen and trust our bodies. Have a beautiful day
25.01.2022 Out and about with this lady yesterday. Covid 19 convinced this mama that birthing at home is the best choice for her. . . #babymama #filipinomama #beautifulmama #mamatobe2020 #homebirthmamas #homebirthmidwifery
25.01.2022 Every birth is different! Your birth is uniquely yours, no matter the path you took to get there. Embrace it, honour it, honour you, you are amazing!... midwife Deb

23.01.2022 This morning I woke early to watch the sunrise. It was beautiful and clear and brought with it the promise of another glorious day. What fun lay ahead for the day. Then within minutes a fog rolled in and the plans that I had envisaged for the day were starting to fall away. I felt cheated of my plans and how I had imagined my day to be. I took a breath and started to realise the beauty that surrounded me, the wonder of nature and the promise of a different day. ... Whether we are planning for a beautiful day or a beautiful birth things can change. Take a breath and find the beauty and the gift in whatever unfolds. Have a beautiful day however it may unfold . midwife Deb
23.01.2022 Sharing again, just in time for Samhain/Halloween Dating pregnancy is not an exact science and there is considerable variation between women. It is norma...l that some women naturally have longer pregnancies than others. The idea that something terrible will happen if a woman remains pregnant for a moment longer than 42 weeks just isn’t true. The baby doesn’t turn into a pumpkin at midnight. It’s so important that women have full information and are able to look at the pros and cons of different courses of action before making the decisions that are right for them. Part of that is sorting the myths from the facts. This quote is from my book, Inducing Labour: making informed decisions." You can find out more about that and my other books and explore birth-related information and decision making at www.sarawickham.com/iol #midwife #midwifery #doula #childbirth #childbirtheducation #pregnancy #informedchoice #informedbirth #positiveinduction #childbirtheducator #duein2020 #nopumpkins #women #birthinformation #writersofinstagram #drsarawickham #nopumpkins See more
23.01.2022 Dr Pecoraro, a private obstetrician, is correct in what he is saying that there is access to anaethetist etc in a hospital but he fails to acknowledge that there is plenty of research stating that home birth is a safe option for most women. He also fails to recognise that we have two midwives present at each birth and that we are trained to recognise when things are going wrong or to resuscitate a baby if necessary. If home birth is what women want then we need to keep asking for Medicare funding, we need to keep talking to your local member about home birth. It is sad to think that other countries, like our close neighbours NZ, have free access to midwives and women in Australia have to either pay for a midwife or freebirth to get a birth where they feel safe and in control.
22.01.2022 Involving siblings helps transition to big brotherhood. How did you manage?
20.01.2022 Snake A symbol of rebirth, transformation, immortality, infertility and healing. This beautiful specimen was spotted on my way to breakfast this morning and as always gave me the opportunity to reflect on pregnancy and birth. ... To me snake has been a symbol of transformation, the shedding of its skin and starting afresh. So to in birth - as a woman nears her birthing she crosses a threshold, shedding her skin, letting go of who she was and then as she births her baby she rebirths herself. She is no longer the woman she was before.
19.01.2022 They days are long, but the years are short. Love those babies! #parenthood
18.01.2022 Great opportunity for all birthing women
18.01.2022 What will this chilly morning bring? We wait quietly, patiently, listening. The beautiful sounds of a mother creating the song to bring her little one earthside. Her breath the melody, her soft moans the harmony and we wait while the tempo builds ...
17.01.2022 One of the things I love most about being a home birth midwife is the opportunity to soak in this beautiful country we live in while visiting clients. Yesterday took me down the back roads to the Gold Coast Hinterland. On the way there the mountains were just giving me glimpses through the low lying clouds. It took my breath away, it was just so beautiful. #travellingmidwife #homebirthmidwife #homebirth #family_midwives
16.01.2022 She birthed by the fire, at the foot of the mountains, in the chill of the night, surrounded by nature and those she trusted most. My last birth down this way for a while and it was such an honour to work with this family. My life is blessed #familymidwives #midwifelife #homebirth
16.01.2022 Breathe - Presence - Birth Another strong mumma - another amazing earthside journey
14.01.2022 Just a beautiful day. Another day of connecting with nature while waiting for nature

13.01.2022 I have always struggled with the word birth plan. It just seems so rigid and structured and birth just isnt rigid and structured. That is not to say that you shouldnt have a say in your birth or desires for your birth. Planning your birth should be like planning a romantic evening with your partner. On date night do you have strict rules and guidelines on what you can and cant do or do you have desires and wants and needs that you want to achieve but are flexible and ...flowing and open to how the night might unfold. Maybe birth preferences or birth desires flows better? To me these statements feel more open to the flow of birth. What do you think?
12.01.2022 This will be my evening view for the next month while I wait for the earthside arrival of another little one. This time far away from home. I travelled for over 5 hours and have now settled into this amazing little cabin while I wait. Travelling to births in regional towns isnt always easy or even possible but the stars aligned for this trip and here I am. So I thank you in advance for your patience for the upcoming travel spam as I explore my current area. ... Midwife Deb

09.01.2022 What an amazing night and what an amazing family. This was a night of many first and I am so privileged to have journeyed with this couple. First homebirth First waterbirth First birth that many present had the pleasure of witnessing... First time being pregnant until 40 weeks and beyond First baby boy I would probably add the best support team this mothers has ever had. She birthed in her bedroom supported continuously by her gorgeous man with many pop in visits from her daughters to hold her hand through a rush, to jump in and give her cuddles, to ensuring that she was still holding on to her crystals. Her mum and dad were there to watch the girls but would check in every now and then to see if she needed anything. #family_midwives #homebirth #homebirthmidwife #midwifelife #deborahmidwife #waterbirth
08.01.2022 A must to listen to if you have ever heard of, or considered the concept of Orgasmic/Ecstatic Birth And if you are interested in finding out more - drop me a line Deb x
07.01.2022 Another beautiful, powerful, strong mumma welcomed her little one earthside in the early hours of this morning. This first time mumma totally owned her birth. Despite moments of fear, frustration and exhaustion she never gave up, instead she gently guided her little one into this world with much love. #familymidwives #homebirth #strongmumma
07.01.2022 Sometimes you just need to put your feet up, trust divine and perfect timing and escape to the country.
07.01.2022 Great news! Due to the current high demand for home births I am once again taking clients. Please reach out if you are looking for a midwife or just have any questions. Deb
07.01.2022 Time for self care and womb wisdom. Have you ever tried yoni steaming? What about yoni eggs?
06.01.2022 How beautiful is this? The waves rhythmically washing over the rocks, creating magic with each surge. Nature doing what nature does best. Reminds me of birth with each wave of power, magic is unfolding. Surrendering to the power of nature it will unfold, it will open and create something truly beautiful. ... Midwife Deb
06.01.2022 I know this might make people uncomfortable but its so true
06.01.2022 So after an amazing birth last week I took the opportunity to race up to the farm and do a thing Well we did a thing, we brought a tent, we put up a tent and now this will be our home while we build our little home. It will be sad saying goodbye to Brisbane, my friends and clients Ive had over the years but great news for women in the Wide Bay area as I will be taking clients from November. ... Rangimarie is still taking clients in Brisbane. #belltent #shakyjacksfarm #debsplace #homebirth #midwifelife #familymidwives
05.01.2022 So in the early hours of this morning, Rangimarie and I attended another birth together. Another opportunity to witness a strong mumma dig deep and find her inner strength to birth in her own power. Her partner stepped up and supported her in such a beautiful and loving way. It is these moments, usually in the early hours of the morning, when the older kids are sleeping, we look on in complete awe as a woman, a couple found the strength to let go of the past, to find tot...al trust in her ability to birth intuitively, instinctively as so many women have done before them. This amazing mumma in the throws of birthing reached down and gently guided her baby into her partners hands. Such a beautiful moment. I do love the work that we do.

02.01.2022 How did your senses bring pleasure into your life today? I watched the sun rise, walked through gardens, gazed at my lover and then watched the moon rise. I felt the hand of my love one brush mine as we walked together, my feet walked barefoot in the sand and over rocks, the wind caressed my face. ... I tasted the most delicious buckwheat sourdough from a lovely little French bakery @bakedon44 dish the road and the salt on my lips from walking on the beach I breathed in the beautiful fresh and salty sea air and the smell of delicious bread and pastries. And lastly I awoke to the kookaburra laughing and reveled in bird song all day long. The sound of waves crashing and laughter with my partner. How will your pleasure and joy serve you in life? How will you bring pleasure and joy into your birth space? midwife Deb
