25.01.2022 Looking for a quick win on a Monday afternoon? Do one of my five quick actionable marketing tips, add something to your to do list that you can tick off quickly. https://www.familyproperty.com.au//five-quick-marketing-ti

25.01.2022 Even a remote work team needs to meet up face to face, sometimes. A couple of weeks ago the FamilyProperty team did just that, and as wonderful as it is to have a truly flexible and remote approach to work it was also great to see each other 'in real life'. We had some training and finished out the day with escape rooms, which were quite loud actually, but also lots of fun. There were also some signs up at YBF about social distancing which lead to the question, who was old enough to have actually been allowed this close to a kangaroo at a zoo, in years gone by?

25.01.2022 Have you tried importing the other side's balance sheet into FamilyProperty, if you have it in a word or excel document then you can just upload it. This can save you a lot of time and effort, and might even be useful for your own client if you are picking a matter up midstream.

25.01.2022 Did you miss our webinar yesterday? Would you like to be sent a copy of the video and the slides? www.familyproperty.com.au/links

25.01.2022 Our clients often ask what they should do if they are mid way through a matter, how should they get the information into FamilyProperty? Honestly, it doesn't take that long to enter it yourself. This is a two minute video of me entering the house, car and bank account type details into a matter, including me making some typos and mistakes along the way.

24.01.2022 Happy Father's Day - however that looks for you, whatever that means for you, we hope you have a great Sunday.

24.01.2022 Employment Law & Family Law Webinar

24.01.2022 We family lawyers have all experienced the age-old fight over the family business, with parties being shut out of premises or having their wages cut off, but have you ever considered the potential employment law issues that arise for a director who works in the business? If your client is retaining the family business, do you need to extinguish those employment law rights, and how? If your client is handing over the family business do you need to advise them on their potenti...al employment rights? Join us on Wednesday as Resolution123 #ladyboss Carly Stebbing talks about the intersection of employment law and family law with our CEO and accredited Family Law specialist Fiona Kirkman. Resolution123 and FamilyProperty are both part of the Lander & Rogers Law Tech Hub. https://www.familyproperty.com.au//family-businesses-in-th

17.01.2022 When you are both a business owner and a lawyer sometimes the two can feel very separate, but when it comes to finding and securing a new client you really shouldn't treat them like two different things. There is this great scene in the show Mad Men where Don Draper takes a really normal part of the process of making cigarettes and turns it into the focus of their advertising campaign. Now lawyers are selling a service not a product, and marketing is not as simple as choosin...g a cute tag line, and yet the scene makes a valid point. You need to communicate what it is that you do. Come to our event on Thursday 21 January to learn how to take what you do, everyday, and use that to help find new work. You don't need to re-invent the wheel, you just need to use the tools you have. Jane Oxley is the CRO at Smokeball Australia and she will be talking to us about how the way that you practice law, the things you do everyday, are an important part of the way that you find new clients. https://www.familyproperty.com.au//you-are-not-two-differe

13.01.2022 This is not a new one, and yet it is completely on point for our current 'You are not Superwoman' theme. As we covered yesterday part of Superman's problem was trying to be two things, he did Superman for free, he also had another job. The inability to be both people is a repeated theme in the franchise. You are not Superman. Unless you work for a charity or government department you need to charge for your services in order to pay your own bills. Just like everyone else y...ou deserve to be paid for your job. So for all those lawyers and mediators out there who have been given a hard time this week by somebody who appears to think you should do your job for free, or for the equivalent take-home pay of $5 an hour (after the considerable expense of actually running a law firm and paying all the costs and insurances), I just wanted to remind you that you are not Superman, you are Clark Kent, and you have a job to do. 12.01.2022 "An expansive survey of mid-size law firms ... found that, post-COVID-19, the top priority for firms in Australia will be to improve efficiencies in the delivery of legal services. This includes regular review of work processes, greater use and investment of technology, formal knowledge management programs, and rewarding efficiency and profitability. The survey also found that most law firms working remotely rated the experience from good to excellent, though issues did eme...rge including how to better manage work and document flow, how legal services could be better structured and delivered, and how best to re-evaluate the client experience." We just did a webinar about using time recording to better manage your workflow, so that you can re-evaluate the value adds for the client and the value adds for your staff. 07.01.2022 #tipsandtricks for our current users - did you know that you can resend the client intake questionnaire from the dashboard? This could be good if you want to send the client the questions in stages, because in both the initial client intake and the dashboard stage you can choose which of the 12 sections you send to them. As always, you can still send the client portal separately. There is a blog post about this that has just gone up today, or you can just follow the screen shots.

06.01.2022 We spoke with Balance Family Law a couple of weeks ago about their approach to legal practice. You can read more about our chat by clicking on the link. ****** Janis - What made you so sure that you only wanted to do these two areas of law (Family Law and Estate Planning)? There are so many areas you could do, were you worried the particular stressors of these areas would become too much? Were you worried you would want more variety?... Jono Family Law was a given, as Pepe has an incredible amount of experience in the field, practising it almost exclusively since 2010 and working for the ACT Child Protection agency in a number of roles beforehand, and when I started as a paralegal working with Pepe, I was working almost exclusively in Family Law as well. In terms of Estate Planning, it is definitely a practice area that compliments Family Law quite well everyone needs a will, and post-separation and divorce it is always important that they, and other EP documents like Powers of Attorney, be updated to reflect their current circumstances. Also, I enjoy Estate Planning, helping structure wills and estates so that they work as best as possible for clients and their families in the future. Pepe We niche even further by working primarily with clients who want to commit to a peaceful resolution and stay out of Court. Whether that be by ADR (collaborative law, interest-based negotiations, arbitration etc) and those clients who need assistance drafting agreements (consents and BFAs including prenups) I was never worried to limit our practice areas. By focusing on what we enjoy and do best, we are able to master these areas and spend our time refining our services and products. https://www.familyproperty.com.au/post/balance-family-law

05.01.2022 We are joining forces with Carly Stebbing at Resolution123 to bring you a free webinar about the intersection of family law and employment law. Do you know whether your client has any employment law rights against the family business, or how to transfer the family business without your client inheriting an employment law claim? Fiona ...and Carly are now part of the Lander & Rogers Law Tech Hub together at YBF Ventures, as well as being awesome #ladybosses who love #legaltech Join us next week to answer these questions, the webinar is free and there is a signup form at the bottom of the blog post. You can also send us questions ahead of time, let us know what you want to hear about. https://www.familyproperty.com.au//employment-law-and-fami
