24.01.2022 Celosia This small bunch represents a tiny trial crop that I planted as seed from Floret Flower Farm to see how they grew in our environment. They are gorgeous! ... I plan on growing HEAPS more of them. So you can all look forward to receiving some celosia goodness in our bunches in the future. . Happy Friday! #flowerfarming #grownnotflown #floretseeds

24.01.2022 Heres me with this mornings VERY bright dahlia harvest Mother Nature - Amazing!

23.01.2022 Our purple dahlias are blooming despite the rain We have had approximately 95mm of rain in the past two days Bliss!

22.01.2022 I had a little help from my Dad this morning. I was teaching him how to take greens cuttings from our Dahlia tubers. He’s always such a good sport when I ask him (tell him) that I’m going to take his photo.... Look at me. Smile Good olé soul #paulfrancis #dad

21.01.2022 I’m working on saving seed from the cut flower crops that I grow so I can share these seeds with you. Imagine growing your own flowers, cutting them from your own garden and sharing them with the ones you love That is ‘Sharing the power of flowers’... And that is my mission. Gail x

20.01.2022 Mulberry - Spray chrysanthemums in the morning light

20.01.2022 Ill take ANY excuse to stay home. Im a homebody Today I re-jigged some of our indoor plants Grow stuff people. It brings satisfaction and joy ... #indoorplants #hangingplants #loveit

20.01.2022 Roses from our garden We are home from our road tripping in far North Qld. And of course the first thing I did when we arrived was have a wander around our garden to stretch my legs.... Imagine my delight when I reached the newly planted rose bed to find these beauties!!! These rose bushes were planted as bare rooted plants approximately three months ago and look at them now. The wonders of growing flowers never ceases to amaze me. I was never going to be a rose grower but I am completely hooked on them now. There are SO many varieties and colours. How could I not grow them. This little bunch smells divine too. Ive put them on our kitchen windowsill and the scent is wafting through our house. It is lovely to be home #nofilter #homegrownroses #flowerfarming

19.01.2022 @david_austin_roses I just went out to our veggie garden to pick rocket and micro greens for our lunches and was met by this pair on the way. This is Heritage (Ausblush) ... Just gorgeous! AND.... they have a beautiful fragrance.

19.01.2022 Little Pink Pam (miniature dahlia) enjoying the morning light in our patch right now

18.01.2022 Over the weekend we planted our biggest crop yet! Hundreds and hundreds of chrysanthemum seedlings. The whole time we were planting I kept thinking We must be crazy. Its hot and dry and the long range weather forecast is not looking favourable. What are we thinking???... Weve covered our little crop in old bits and pieces of shade cloth to protect the seedlings from the heat. Its not pretty, but its functional. If you are a farmer you have to be optimistic and believe in the future. You plant something today so it produces in the future. Last night we had the most beautiful rain . These little seedlings are off with a brilliant start. Everything in the patch is looking perky this morning, the sun is shining, the birds are chirping and the bees are busy. Everyone is winning! Happy day everyone

18.01.2022 Im collaborating with @scented_collective to create beautiful handmade botanically influenced bath & body products. . These are the most GORGEOUS velvety petals of Mister Lincoln hybrid tea rose. Look at the size of each individual petal! I put a couple of yellow petals from another rose variety towards the centre to give you some perspective of size. . These large velvety petals also have the most beautiful fragrance ... . I am drying the petals to be used as a finishing touch to @scented_collective creamy goats milk + rose soaps. . Im a long term handmade soap user and I cannot wait to be the product tester of these new products that will be crafted right here in our farm gate studio. 18.01.2022 I totally encourage this

18.01.2022 This was my weekend! Lifting and sorting Dahlia tubers Unattractive to many. Gold to me ... These little beauties will be stored in the shed for the next couple of months until our cooler weather passes. Then I will take greens cuttings to multiply my supply. Before planting begins for next season. Behind the scenes of flower farming is not glamorous. Its actually a lot of hard work with plenty of time spent on my own in the patch. Im good with that I encourage everyone to grow stuff. Anything! Its brilliant.... I love it Gail Farlow

16.01.2022 My new favourite I am totally conscious that I am Dahlia spamming at the moment. I cant help myself! Every day as I wander through our patch I find more blooms that are simply too good not to share.... This colour is just so beautiful. It is hard to capture the actual colour in a photo. I tried my best in the afternoon light and no filter applied. Much love and kindness to all

16.01.2022 Pink snapdragons are starting to pop! We are expecting rain this weekend In preparation for the rain and to give our crops maximum opportunity to thrive I have been busy spreading blood and bone + earth grow soil conditioner from @bassett_barks with a top layer of organic sugar cane mulch ... Complete goodness = one happy flower farmer Photo 2 is of one of our rose and lavender beds.

16.01.2022 Roses The roses I grow in our garden are for my own personal enjoyment. We don’t have enough land space for me to grow them in large quantities. But I couldn’t be without having a small variety of roses to pick from for our kitchen table. Issue is....... growing roses is so contagious. There are SO many beautiful varieties. Their colour, scent and flower form continually blows me away. I picked these on my inspection walk around the patch this morning. Stuck them on the o...ld log to take a good look at them in the morning light and I couldn’t help taking this photo to share. I wish you could smell their beautiful fragrance. Moral of this story....... plant yourself some rose bushes in your garden (if you have enough room). There are plenty of varieties suitable to be grown in pots. Check out @treloarroses for inspiration. Ok, ok, enough from me We all know where my passion is. Happiness to all. #nofilter #farlowsfloriculture #gardenroses

16.01.2022 I absolutely could not achieve my flower growing goals without this guy. He does all of the heavy lifting, digging, bed prep and shaping, mowing, weeding, watering and deliveries. By Sunday afternoon twilight he is fuelled by a VB in one hand and a rollie in the other ... No random testing on this site. Cheers to another productive weekend in our patch

16.01.2022 A bright and cheery bunch this morning. This lot of Snapdragons are at the end of the crop but they are still lovely. #nofilter #wegrewthese #flowerfarming

15.01.2022 This afternoons harvest! Pay special attention to the vase. Theres a story about it... This vase used to belong to my Grandma. My Dads mother. This vase is very special to Dad. He always tells me that it is the only thing he has of his mothers. So today when I picked these beautiful flowers I put them in Grandmas vase and took them to Dads place to brighten up his kitchen bench. Dad is 77yo and is staying close to home in these uncertain times. He is coping really well ...(thank goodness for Netflix). I am sure that when he goes to his kitchen first thing tomorrow morning he will have a smile in his heart when he is greeted by these flowers and he knows I am thinking about him It is the small gestures in life that matter. Stay calm, stay safe and be positive. Gail x

15.01.2022 Weve had a very special little visitor in our patch this week For those who dont recognise her, this is our granddaughter Lailah. Look at the inquisitive expression on her face as she feels the flowers. I totally LOVE teaching her all about growing everything!!!! Hopefully we have another plant nerd in the making ... Gail Farlow Kate Farlow

13.01.2022 Heres a pic of my mother-in-law Barb and I this morning. We jagged the colour coded outfits. Me straight from the patch. Mick and I called in for a coffee and a chat and to drop Barb off a posy of freshly picked flowers for her to take to the Caloundra Arts Centre fair today to share with her friends Im sure these flowers will be a conversation starter. ... By the end of today everybody in Caloundra will know all about Barbs son and his wife who grow flowers . We love you to bits Barb. Keep up your good work #sharingthejoy

12.01.2022 Our dahlias are starting to bloom. Yay Our whole garden is enjoying the little showers of rain we have been fortunate enough to receive ... #nofilter #dahlia #slowgrow #flowerfarming

12.01.2022 It’s another wet morning here in our patch. I could see pops of colour in the dahlia beds from the window. So I ran out there in the drizzle, risked my life by being eaten alive by about a bazillion mosquitos and quickly snapped this pic to share. No filter, pure natural beauty. What a gorgeous colour. As soon as the rain clears and the sun shines I am sure we will have plenty of blooms ... #happydays #freshflowers #farlowsfloriculture

12.01.2022 Working towards reaching my rose growing goals with each bloom This is Sunny Sky - Hybrid tea rose from @treloarroses #smallscalefarming #roses #loveit

11.01.2022 As the sun sets on our patch this afternoon I am cataloguing for next season. Deciding on what stays and what goes. Im working on having less variety and more volume of the varieties I decide to keep.... Those of you who know me well know I dont have any issues making decisions. Deciding on what goes is no problem. If they are not good reliable performers, theyre gone! Thats not being ruthless; thats business. Ive trialled most of these for at least 3 years. Space in our patch is precious. I choose to keep the dahlia varieties based on colour, size, stem length & strength and repeat flowering. Done! #nofilter #flowerfarming #longweekend #stayhome

11.01.2022 Have you all met my old truck Sandy? . I named her in memory of my Mum (Sandra) and I think the cabin colour is fitting with that name too. . Heres her back end in all her glory over the weekend ... . Were constantly working together to bring back the goods to enrich the soil in our patch #flowertruck #farmfreshflowers #soil See more

09.01.2022 My Dad and I shared the pleasure of sourcing some beautiful fresh cow manure for my patch from Lachie and Ellen Kenmans dairy farm this morning. Thank you L & E Kenman. I am so grateful. I will definitely be returning. In fact I think I should just move in #familyfarm #dairy #nextgeneration #gardengoodness

09.01.2022 My family are my biggest supporters They all encourage me in their own unique ways. They all come from a different angle. They are interested in what I am growing, and ask me heaps of questions to give me plenty to think about. I love that ... Yesterday my sister arrived with these Fowlers jars that she picked up at a local garage sale for me because she knows Im all about recycling and reusing whenever possible The moral of this story is..... with a few good people on your side anything is possible #freshflowers #snapdragons #wegrewthese #grateful

09.01.2022 Something to give you a giggle Kylie Warren I can hear you laughing now

08.01.2022 In our little patch almost everything is done by hand. . On rare occasions we use small scale machinery. . This morning I earned my rotary hoe licence .... . This task is usually done by Mick but I asked him if I could do it today. I need to get better at the more physical stuff . . Rotary hoeing is not good for your soil. It damages the eco system within the soil structure. But..... sometimes I think it is necessary (I know some people will disagree). The unimproved soil at our place is very sandy with NO nutritional value for the plants. . This bed that I am working on today is one that I have been adding all sorts of goodness (compost, manure, mulch, blood and bone) to for 12 months (thats right. 12 months!). And today was the day to give a good turning over in preparation for spring planting . Watch this space for updates on beautiful fresh seasonal blooms #grownnotflown #farlowsfloriculture #smallscalefarming #flowerfarming

08.01.2022 I’ve always been a big believer in collaboration. Lots of areas in my life are all the better for sharing ideas, thoughts, decisions, recommendations and keeping it real with other people around me. I would not have it any other way. In fact I continually seek collaboration. I love that humans all have different perspectives and it’s one of the qualities in my husband that I admire the most. His completely different perspective on most things compared to me. You can imagine ...how some of our conversations go. Let’s just call them very robust I love listening to Pip and all of her conversations on her podcast Jumbled Loves-A-Chat. JUMBLED So you can imagine my delight when I listened to her chat with Jessica Ruhfus from Collabosaurus a couple of days ago (while I was driving up the Bruce Highway to the Gympie Cattle Sale). Check out the link below to have a listen. Enjoy! https://podcasts.apple.com/au/podcast/jumbled/id1496720131 Thank you Pip and Jess for sharing your conversation. It was wonderful #collaboration #bettertogether #womeninbusiness

06.01.2022 Purple is one of my least favourite colours. But Im open to try anything once. After all, the colour of the blooms is not all about me. I just grow them for others to enjoy. I have to admit the depth of colour of these stocks that I picked this afternoon is pretty impressive (even for someone who doesnt love purple). ... I do love the random hot pink one that found her way into the crop. Theres always one isnt there they keep it interesting. And the white ones. Well white is a staple of life. Everything looks better with white #nofilter #flowerfarming

06.01.2022 It brings me so much joy when my friends totally enjoy being in my patch with me. Thank you for the visit today Elaine Jacobs Potts

05.01.2022 Sharing the power of flowers On the weekend I was privileged to collaborate with Caz Owens to provide bright bunches of local farm fresh flowers for Helm Collective to carry out their random act of kindness mission. Like I said. It was a privilege to be able to contribute and be able to share joy with people who are less fortunate than us.... Thank you Helm Collective for being so kind and compassionate. I am certain you touched the hearts of strangers #sharejoy #bekind

03.01.2022 HUGE Sunflower We had one single random self seeding sunflower in our flower patch. It grow to a height of approximately 10ft (I’m not exaggerating. It was huge). The bees totally loved it ... After living its best life it started to wilt so yesterday afternoon we cut it down. Look at the size of the flower head against Mick’s hand! We deliberately scraped some of the top layer off so we could see the seed layer underneath. We’ll dry the flower head and feed the seeds to our chooks Low food miles for the chooks too. Nice Happy Monday

02.01.2022 Quote time. That’s all from me

02.01.2022 Thank you, thank you, thank you! To all of our loyal supporters who keep coming back year after year. We appreciate each and every one of you. Without you, my flower farming ambitions and dreams would not be possible. Youre all bloody amazing We increase our crop size each year hoping to have enough for everyone. Sadly weve run short again this year. I am sorry to those who have missed out this Mothers Day.... I will double our crop next year. There you go! Ive posted that pledge on social media so Im committed now. I sincerely wish all of the Mothers in the universe a wonderful Mothers Day. This will be my first year without my Mum Do something special for your Mum! Thats an order from the flower farmer Happy days everyone. G x

01.01.2022 Like everybody else, our garden is very hot and dry at the moment. Despite this our roses continue to bloom. Not in large numbers but anything that thrives in these conditions has my tick of approval This is Sunny Sky a hybrid tea rose from @treloarroses Our Dahlia crop was looking really good until the spider mite moved in ... My growing tip for this week is grow Roses
