25.01.2022 The best doctor in the world is the veterinarian. They cant ask their patients what is the matter - theyve got to just know. ~Will Rogers~

24.01.2022 Did you know, not only do we do farm calls, we also have hospital facilities for farm animals. The Animal hospital is equipped with a large animal theatre, an anaesthesia team, a diagnostic imaging facility and much more. Some cases require further investigation or treatments and thats where we might advise your animals to stay with us.

22.01.2022 Today we are celebrating Veterinary Nurse Day at The Animal Hospital where we have over 80 nurses, welfare workers, receptionists and technical staff! We are privileged to have a dedicated team within our Farm Animal Services at the Animal Hospital. All of our patients are being tended to continually in one way or another by our vet nurses or support staff. Some things they get up to including; surgery assistance, nutrition, monitoring, anaesthetist, cleaning or mucking out ...and maybe even just a little cuddle or affection to help their journey whilst we are out on the road or if they are a patient in our hospital. So please join us whilst we celebrate Vet Nurse Day by saying thank you all our fabulous nursing and support staff. #vetnurseday #veterinarynurse #tahmu #murdochuni #vetnurselife #celebrate #vnca #theanimalhospital #celebrate #weloveanimals #pamperedpets #farmanimals

20.01.2022 Veterinary reproduction goes green We live in a day and age where we strive to reduce our carbon footprint. That is why it is so important that we celebrate the wins along the way, especially ones closer to home. As part of efforts to live and work more sustainably, staff and students in vet reproduction have started using biodegradable gloves across all teaching practices. As the area uses a lot of protective gloves, short and long, required to examine animals (think cows and horses), the initiative seeks to stop the use of single use plastic gloves. User results will also help inform veterinarians in practice, so they can use the products with confidence, and may allow bulk buying to reduce the cost.

18.01.2022 Special delivery at The Animal Hospital and Farm Animal Services at the Animal Hospital this week! Our first time Mummy goat welcomed two beautiful baby boys! The sun was shining and not a cloud in the sky. Mummy had watchful eyes not only from our Veterinary Staff, but also her fellow sisters and our giant 4 legged friends. Aka our horse herd.

16.01.2022 A very good post from our friends at Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development - DPIRD about the Annual Ryegrass Toxicity (ARGT). This doesnt just affect horses, but can also affect cows, sheep and goats.

16.01.2022 From all the Staff and Students from The Animal Hospital At Murdoch University, we wish every mum a very happy mothers day.

16.01.2022 IMPORTANT COVID-19 CLIENT UPDATE To ensure the safety of our staff so we can continue to provide essential veterinary services, we are continuing to adapt our operations. We thank you for your understanding. Effective Wednesday 25th March 2020, the following changes will be implemented: ... 1 To ensure that we have capacity to respond to urgent and emergent cases, some cases deemed as elective will be postponed. This will be deemed on a case-by-case basis at the time of appointment request and or consultation. 2When you call for an appointment, the urgency of care will be discussed, and some deemed as elective may need to be postponed. 3Please call ahead before all emergency visits. 4Additional information will be obtained over the phone prior to scheduled appointments to minimise contact on arrival. 5You will be asked to wait in your vehicle after you arrive and call The Animal Hospital on 1300 652 494 to notify us of your arrival. For horses and farm animal clients Between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday, please call 9360 7676 and a staff member will meet you in the car park to take your animal into the barn; you will be required to stay in the car or car park if possible. For hospital admissions outside office hours, or for after- hours emergencies, please call ahead on 1300 652 494 and follow the prompts. When you arrive at the hospital, please remain in the carpark until a staff member has advised you how to proceed. TAHMU will continue to offer an in-hours ambulatory service for horse and farm animals if considered urgent. 6As many communications as possible between you and our veterinary team will be done over the phone. 7Verbal consent will be obtained rather than written consent; we will follow up by emailing you copies of relevant paperwork. As always, our priority remains providing exceptional veterinary care for your animals, and clearly communicating with you and your family. We thank you for your ongoing support during this unprecedented time. Critical Incident Management Team THE ANIMAL HOSPITAL AT MURDOCH UNIVERSITY

15.01.2022 We dont know about you, but this video of our bubba goats and their little tails wagging whilst feeding from mumma goat, is a little bit of cuteness overload!

14.01.2022 There is nothing quite like a cuddle or helping out to feed our patients at The Animal Hospital. Plus; we have heard it works wonders for a bit of stress relief in our Veterinary Students hectic schedules too.

14.01.2022 After a lengthy stay little miss Gabby was discharged today with a road to recovery ahead. The brave girl came to see us for sudden lamness. Upon examination we thought it would be best to take X-rays which revealed a fracture of the radius and ulna. Along with our farm animal team the equine surgeon team joined on the mission to perform an orthopaedic procedure to repair the break. The surgical approach was carefully thought and planned resulting in a plate being placed meticulously. The outcome thus far has been just as we expected. We hope you enjoy being back at home and we look forward to watching your recovery journey.

14.01.2022 Oh that face Happy Tuesday everyone.

09.01.2022 Recently an equine dentist from WAVED performed a removal of an retained baby incisor from the mandibular arcade due to malocclusion which is a common problem that occurs. This resulted in a double row of incisors. It describes a condition where abnormal position of a tooth or teeth prevent appropriate alignment with teeth of the opposing jaw. Animals with malocclusion may suffer from difficulty with prehension of food or chewing resulting in malnutrition weight loss and poo...r body condition. Llamas are herbivores that are native to the Andes mountains of South America quite often referred to as modified ruminants. Llamas and alpacas both have decidious teeth or baby teeth as some call it which are present at or shortly after birth and Will eventually be replaced by permanent teeth. The deciduous tooth will usually fall out revealing an erupting permnant tooth behind it. Lamoids chew in a lateral motion that keeps wear even. The roots of the cheek teeth are also closed so there is not continuous growth as in the equine. See more

08.01.2022 Little miss gabby here has made a tremendous recovery ! Many thanks to this fabulous surgeon who performed an orthopaedic repair to a complex fracture. We could not have asked for a better patient or outcome from our surgical team.

07.01.2022 The float is for our beautiful long necked friends who visit from time to time for their annual checkups with our Vets at Farm Animal Services at the Animal Hospital But! Is this one pictured an alpaca or a llama?

06.01.2022 Caption this in the comments below!

05.01.2022 Who better to assist the farm animal team in a complex case then our fellow colleagues from the equine department. The team performed a cardiac ultrasound to assess for any abnormalities that may explain the symptoms we are seeing. Scooter was comforted and given a gentle touch by our equine nurse and our farm animal nurse.
