25.01.2022 From Rocks To Sand What's great about this country is that you don't have to venture far and you find something in stark contrast to what you have just seen, not far down the road. After leaving Karijini National Park we went West to the Ningaloo Coast. We made a stopover on our way in to Bullara Station Stay and funnily enough loved it that much we popped in again on our way out. Some places just get it right and for our first Station Stay on this trip we were pleasantly sur...prised at what Bullara had to offer. Besides the SCONES, this place had it all and we enjoyed kicking our heels in the red dirt again before we got sand between our toes. Arriving into Exmouth without accommodation is not advisable but we managed a four night cancellation so we were pleased to say the least and made the most of our time here before heading down to Waroora Station for 3 nights and a day trip to Coral Bay hence there was no accommodation there as it was crazy busy as well. With the Ningaloo Reef being so close to shore it made it easy to stop off and have a snorkel. We are inexperienced snorkellers, so after observing what the other people were doing we worked out that the trick is once you have your flippers on you go in in reverse, then its head down, bum up and off you go. Turns out, we both really loved it and will definately be reversing in again when the opportunity arises. There is alot you can do on this beautiful coastline but we decided to keep it simple and just fossick around, enjoy picnics on the beach, snorkelling, 4wdriving in the sand dunes and whale watching. It's simply a stunning place and not to be missed. #farmersonagapyear #ningaloocoast #thisisWA #beautifuldestinations #discoveraustralia #DoItInWA Bullara Station Stay

24.01.2022 Great day for it....beautiful 26degrees. #wildflowercountry WA's Wildflower Country

22.01.2022 Our Kalbarri Experience.... On our drive from Northhampton on our way to Kalbarri we opted to stay at a Farmstay called Linga Longa @ Lynton Station, a quiet little spot with heaps of room and close enough to Kalbarri and the coastline and as an added bonus the Pink Lake of Hutt Lagoon happen to be just across the road. The Pink Lake once we got a nice sunny day to see it was magnificent but for us this trip was all about exploring the beautiful Kalbarri National Park. May I ...say if you are able you should think about doing the 8km Loop walk starting from Natures Window, it was one of the best walks we have done. We went anti clockwise so we hugged the clifftop for the first part of the hike and the pace was pretty slow due to the fact that i was stopping so often to cease the photo opportunities that were around every corner, just breathtaking views from up there. Then the track wanders down to the rivers edge and a different landscape appears before you, it was a very peaceful hike and there wasn't much traffic so it felt like you had the place to yourself. We did share part of the walk with a flock of beautiful black swans that took our attention thus we just sat and gazed at them while they went on with their daily business. The other thing that attracted our attention was the abundance of little wildflowers scattered throughout, especially striking were the pink flowers cascading out of the harshness of the rock. We also visited the new skywalk which was presented beautifully and a credit to it's designers, it felt quite natural in its surrounds and an added bonus of a quaint little cafe was a nice touch. The other place I have to mention is the Z Bend lookout and the trail........unbelievable!!!!!!! Not to be missed. There was alot of gorgeous colour driving in and out of the park so it made for a lovely vista and more opportunities to get out and capture the flowers before they disappear. We had a great week here and highly recommend dropping in for a night or Linga Longa as we did. #farmersonagapyear #kalbarri #coralcoast #beautifuldestinations Linga Longa Farmstay Lynton #rockformations #abcmyphoto #justanotherdayinwa #roadtrip

21.01.2022 "Mundatharrda" aka the Kennedy Range After a new windscreen and a restock in Carnarvon we headed East into the Kennedy Range National Park to have a poke about. Arriving late arvo we decided to stay at Gascoyne Junction, have a cool beverage and a feed at the pub. Very glad we did as there is a fantastic chef nicknamed Omo there who whipped us up a delectable meal. Great C Park and facilities and awesome pub. I think we picked the warmest day in August to do some gorge walk...ing so we set off pretty early and planned on the four gorge walks......well i started to overheat after the second one so number 4 is on the list for next time. Driving into this park is pretty stunning and as you reach the campground you kind of feel engulfed by the greatness surrounding you, this gets my blood pumping and keen to hit the track. After an eager walk into Drapers Gorge we hit the escarpment trail, this is where i run out of puff and got overheated, of all days there was not a whisper of air getting about so made it a pretty warm walk. Very rewarding at the top though, you could see quite alot of the range. Last but not least was Honeycomb Gorge which was a hop, skip and a jump compared to the trail and wow!!! was it an interesting place. Read that the honeycomb affect was created by the waterfall impacting the sandstone, hence the intriguing shapes that are formed on the face of the gorge wall. This would be a great stopover on your way to Mount Augustus, but due to us already visiting there we just ducked in to see this park, very glad we did as it has alot to offer. Enjoy...... 20.01.2022 North to South.... After leaving Kalbarri and heading South via some wildflowers in the Mullewa District we settled into Bunbury for a good week and then stayed at Peppy Beach also for a week, we didn't have anything booked for the School Holidays so we weren't expecting to get in everywhere, turns out the South wasn't so popular and had no trouble after all. From here we explored everyday, rain, hail or shine.....we didn't have much of the latter but knowing what the weather... forecast was going to be I dug deeper into my research on what to do in the rain and came up with a heap of options. Turns out when it rained the showers didn't last that long except for during the night which didn't affect us at all, so we were able to get heaps done in between. We covered a lot of country, finding loops and tracks to explore in every direction. The South has kept us very busy and well fed to say the least. You don't have to drive far without stumbling onto Olive groves, wineries, meaderies, cheeseries, artizan producers and quaint little towns , this makes for an overload of the senses and pretty full by tea time. From Peppy Beach we drove as far across as Sugarloaf Rock in the Leeuwin Naturaliste N.P which was spectacular, good from the lookout but take the path off to the left and you end up scrambling Sugarloaf and discover some intriguing geographical features. The Geographe Bay also kept us busy looking out for whales on their return journey and on this particular day they put on a free show that lasted over an hour, so glad we had packed lunch that day, it was such a spectacle and once again the giants of the sea took our breath away. Ok....that's it, short and sweet today, will let the photos tell the story, Sugarloaf pictures are towards the end, unexpected find and one of my favourites. Hope everyone who has been able to travel these school holidays has had a wonderful break and enjoyed getting out there again. We are off to Margaret River next and onto Denmark where we were 7 months ago when lockdown came hoping to visit what we didn't get to see first time around. #farmersonagapyear #exploringaustralia Australia's South West #australiassouthwest #livingourbestlife See more

19.01.2022 "Our off road trek to Mount Augustus also known as Burringurrah" We have been itching to hit the dirt so after leaving Cervantes (above Perth) we went inland, staying at Mount Magnet then turning off the Great Northern Highway at Meekatharra to head in to see the largest rock, that of Mount Augustus. Firstly though along the way we were lucky enough to find the wreath flower in flower on the side of the road right where Wiki told me they would be. There were only half a doz...en but just gorgeous and unique at the same time. We turned off at Meekatharra drove a short distance of bitumen until we hit the dirt, let the tyres down then after five kms hit the bitumen again, oh well, it wasnt long and we hit the dirt and it stayed that way. Took us over 6 hours to travel the 350kms to the Mount Augustus Tourist Park. Along the way we came across a police station with a lock up, now abandoned but nicely preserved for us tourists to have a glimpse of life in the early settler days where sheep theft was rife . It really was the middle of nowhere and the police had no form of communication whatsoever. We arrived in late and seen Augustus in its splendour at sunset, then again at sunrise. Beautiful rich red in colour and rising 1105m above the earth. A truly magnificent sight and makes Uluru look small in comparison. We didnt have alot of time to take the walk to the top, much to Rohans disgust because we had a 10hour drive to Karijini the next day. I have promised Rohan we will climb the summit next time. Glad we took the road less travelled and made the trip in to see this wonderful rock and have it embedded into our memory. As you can see by some of the photos we were out there by ourselves, with the occasional traveller taking the same track as us, in the 10 hours it took to Karijini there was not a moment of boredom , we were in just awe of the country before us. 18.01.2022 Shark Bay World Heritage Area We settled into Hamelin Station Stay which to date has been the most peaceful, quiet stay we have experienced. Just a short drive or walk away are the ancient Stromatolites, which while looking at them is hard to believe that they are billions of years old, very pretty to visit at sunset but I have to be honest I didnt quite stay that long because it really stunk, I have a weak stomach so a quick look and off we went but very interesting nonethe...less. Rohan mentions to me when we sit down by the fire about heading to Steep Point the next day, I'm like yep sure whats there? Not much I don't think but it's the most Westerley point of Mainland Australia so we should go........ no worries sounds good. So off we go early the next morning as the drive took us well over three hours and to put it to you honestly this drive once in there was the most exhilirating drive we have been on thus far, it was sandy, boggy, tight in some spots, just so much fun, driving through massive sand dunes, really dense foliage and what a contrast.....one side of the point was beautiful, tranquil beach and not that far on the other side was breathtaking rugged clifftops. The whole thing was not what we expected and was a pleasant surprise, we signed the visitors book once at Steep Point itself and then explored the whole point finding little tracks going off to blow holes, steep and often knee wobbling cliff tops, serene little beaches and of course spotting the odd whale or two in the distance. Other than Rohan being eaten alive by sand flies we scored the day a 10 out of 10, we highly recommend if you are in the Shark Bay area and have a four wheel drive, buckle up and go its just the best. We also visited Monkey Mia and the quaint little town of Denham which was picture perfect the day we were there. Not to many dolphins came for a visit the morning we were there but the few that did were quite content roaming so close to the edge. A little spot not to be missed just out of Denham is Little Lagoon a gorgeous place to pull up right on the beach and have a bite to eat and enjoy the serenity. Our last day was spent in Francois Peron National Park, whilst there on the Northern tip at Skipjack Point we were lucky enough to spot Dugong, Mantaray, whales and sharks in the pristine waters and on the road we came across several Thorny Devils which were the cutest. (except the squashed one) Also a must do was to go in to Ocean Park Aquarium and join their highly educational quided tour. Shark Bay offered alot and if your looking for a sleepy little town then Denham would be the spot for you. Happy Fathers Day and enjoy the rest of your Sunday. #farmersonagapyear #coralcoast #worldheritagearea Hamelin Station Stay #livingyourbestlife #beautifuldestinations Australia's Coral Coast

14.01.2022 We took a visit to Lake Ballard over the past couple of days and were pleasantly surprised at what we found. It was a really peaceful spot to take in the vista for a couple of nights. Antony Gormely's art of 51 statues (which we didnt find all of them but tried) kept us intrigued to say the least and capturing them at sunrise and sunset gave us a different perspective. Although a little wet under foot at times it was easy walking over the lake, although that's not what my leg...s thought today. The statues span from close by for those who cant trek to far to way out yonder. The salt lake itself is massive and runs for 50kms, almost back to the small township of Menzies. The free camp by the Lake itself was just what you need to spend some quiet time, spacious and tidy and pretty simple really. (no reception was a plus) We are glad we made the drive up this way (above Kalgoorlie) we had perfect weather and it wasn't busy. 12.01.2022 "Ruff and Raw " Quobba Station Unlike the Ningaloo Coast we have just been exploring, the rawness of this coastline hits you from the moment you arrive. Stopping off at the blow holes on the way in was a bit of excitement and enough to get me in and want to explore some more.... We decided to camp at the Homestead Station Stay which was well spread out and met our needs the couple of days we were there. We didn't wing the best weather as it nearly blew the hairs clean off my head (Rohans hair was safe) but with weather you have to take it or leave it, so we took it. We meandered off the road into some tracks to the coastline and found some breathtaking views, all of which were very rugged to say the least. We also drove to Red Bluff where there is another campsite and explored the point and stumbled across some ancient sea life fossilised within the rocks, I am a little obsessed by this as you can see by the photos but I am so intrigued by how this come to be. On our drive we pulled up to watch a truck on the haul road carting salt for Rio Tinto Mines, on further investigation we found the salt stockpile right on the edge of the cliff and several ships awaiting to be loaded. The salt is mined from Lake McLeod. The station runs damara sheep which looked in good nick, Tim the owner remarking that they are not holding to capacity due to 8 years of inadequate rainfall. We enjoyed the rawness and roughness of this place and recommend it as a point of difference,(no surfing for us but apparently its a hotspot) we are off inland now to the Kennedy Ranges with a warm 36degrees, so should be good. For those of you in lockdown or who cant travel at the moment we wish you all the best and hope that your future travels are what you are dreaming of. We never take it for granted that we are travelling when others cant, as you never know whats around the corner for any of us at anytime. Take Care....Junelle #farmersonagapyear #visitwa #beautifuldestinations #livingyourbestlife # discoveraustralia #adventureawaits

10.01.2022 Not being that fond of dipping my toes in the ocean, when near the ocean I have to find something else to amuse myself if Roh is casting a line. Yesterday it was a fascination with a sea slug today it was a fascination with things "stuck in time".

10.01.2022 Hard to believe 365 days ago we drove out of "Coolabah" and onto the road seeking a change of lifestyle and days of adventure. I picked this photo of us for today because it was one of the happiest days, we arrived at Bunda Cliffs this day and it simply took our breath away. This adventure we are on is still taking our breath away, 2020 has been far from what we anticipated with the C word changing the world and like everyone else it has affected us is some, way, shape or for...m. We are forever grateful everyday for what we are experiencing and thank everyone who has been following our trip. Looking forward to the next 365 days and what it will bring, we only have plans in place until xmas so will see what 2021 has in store for us. Live your dreams everyone, everyone has the courage you just have to find it. No regrets here...... #farmersonagapyear #livingourbestlife #exploringaustralia

05.01.2022 Margaret River Region...... After leaving Peppermint Beach we wandered on over to the Margaret River Region and chose Big Valley Campsite out of town for our next place to camp. This farm stay is amazing, we drove into lush fields of greenery and were welcomed by good old country hospitality. Only a short drive into Margaret River itself it suited us fine to camp amongst the sheep and rolling green hills. Wow......I don't quite know where to start , basically if you jump in y...Continue reading

02.01.2022 Our Visit To Karijini National Park We arrived into Karijini after a ten hour drive from Mount Augustus so we weren't privy to our surrounds until we awoke the next morning. This place has been on my list of places to see but Rohan had never heard of it, needless to say he was in for a big surprise. We stayed at the Eco Retreat for four nights which was fabulous, we loved it there and found it close to nearly all the highlights Karijini had on offer.... This is one very special place and to say that we are in love with it is an understatement. The shear scale of the amazing geographical features this park has to offer is mind blowing, our necks are next level sore from looking up so much, and the muscles in the upper thigh have never had such a good workout, BUT hell is it worth it. Every Gorge we visited offered something really special and we were in ore of what went on underneath the earth all those years ago to give us what we see today, the buckling and the layering of sediment deposits in the walls of these gorges is what sucks you in and makes you not think about climbing back up after you rush to the bottom of each gorge, eager to explore. No favourites here, they were all challenging and equally breathtaking, try them all and don't necessarily rush to the swimming holes and forgo the others because believe me it is worth fitting them all in. HOT TIP: get up early and explore, most mornings we were the only ones in the gorge and the place was packed, it really is something else when its just the two of you wandering through, no words spoken just taking in the moment and appreciating the fact we were so lucky to be able to immerse ourselves especially in these times. To those of you who have never thought of visiting please add it to your list and for those of you who may never be able to visit i hope you get something out of scrolling through our photos. #farmersonagapyear Karijini Eco Retreat Karijini National Park - Pilbara, Western Australia #pilbara #welivetoexplore #thisiswa #livingyourbestlife
