25.01.2022 9 Months old, nearly the same size as mum & still she feeds her!

25.01.2022 Early in day 9 I noticed the little grey runt of the litter didn’t have the lovely full round yummy like the 6 other kits. First option I tried was to hold mum still whilst this little grey went from teat to teat trying to feed. 2 times yesterday & once this morning I tried this method with no obvious full tummy and by midday today this little grey’s back bone was showing and it looked very dehydrated. As you can see in video, it’s only about a third of the size of it...s siblings I really didn’t think it could win the competition for its mother’s milk. So mid afternoon today I started feeding this baby some rabbit milk formula & along with some helpful advice from the penguin vet I’m pleased to report that so far all is going well. Just supplement feeding atm, baby grey stays in the nest with the other siblings for warmth & comfort. little grey continues to do well against all odds...giving it every chance I can! See more
