25.01.2022 Diseases was the hot topic in the #northernPulsecheck meeting last week. One thing to look for is twisting of leaves, which is often a sign of viral infection.... If you see this in the paddock, or any other symptoms that look like disease, you can get in touch with plant pathologist Kurt Lindbeck from NSW DPI, Wagga Wagga. You can post samples or email photos to [email protected]. Photo: Kurt Lindbeck, Photo: Faba beans supplied by Joop van Leur. FarmLink Research Grains Research and Development Corporation See more

22.01.2022 What a great day yesterday talking all things Glyphosate Resistant Ryegrass! Big thanks to Neil Durning from Riverina Independent Agronomy for facilitating the Grains Research and Development Corporation supported day, Peter Boutsalis for presenting via Zoom from The University of Adelaide, Greg Condon from WeedSmart Innovations for generating some great interaction with the growers and advisers present and the StevTech crew with Hutcheon & Pearce for the paddock demonstration. Things were a little bit different with the COVID-19 guidelines in place, but the rewards were shown in the interaction and discussions between growers and advisers attending the day. #changeadaptprosper

12.01.2022 As harvest approaches, look out for poor yielding, thin patches, white heads and other symptoms in cereals that may be a symptom of root disease. In 2020, a national GRDC-funded project got underway titled Soilborne Pathogen Identification and Management Strategies for Winter Cereals. FarmLink is leading the project, which involves grower groups in NSW, South Australia, Victoria and WA. The project aims to help growers learn about the major diseases of cereals caused by soilb...orne pathogens. In 2021, the project will: Provide hands-on workshops to help growers learn about the typical symptoms of cereal root diseases and strategies for their management; Establish demonstration trials of root disease management strategies; and Assess the impact of various management approaches in the following season for on-going impacts of management strategies. The workshops will provide training in examining plant roots and diagnosing the likely pathogens present, using real examples of plants brought by growers to the workshops. The Soilborne Pathogens project will also provide growers and advisers with an online resource to learn about sampling plants and examining roots to identify symptoms of infection by the various root pathogens. Growers who notice poorly performing areas in their cereal crops this harvest are encouraged to note the areas, and have soil testing carried out by their agronomist to help identify any root pathogen present. If disease is present, there may be the opportunity to trial one of the management approaches to deal with these diseases. 08.01.2022 Hands-on Precision Ag Training FarmLink is partnering with the GRDC, SPAA and other grower groups to deliver a national program of hands-on precision ag (PA) training. This training will introduce\growers and advisors to PA as a tool to cost effectively inform and respond to key farm management or input decisions. Throughout February and March, we will facilitate nine workshops from southern NSW to Central QLD, focusing on managing soil and nutrient variability and following... the decision-making path from start to finish (VR application). We will then follow up in July at the same locations in-season to progress through the growers’ precision ag journey, working on opportunities to execute the latest techniques. While these workshops are aimed at an introductory level of PA, we will be covering key tips and tricks that even the more seasoned PA technician may not be aware of, particularly around hardware interfaces.
