25.01.2022 Dear Parent/Carers With the increased activity of COVID throughout Newcastle, the school is being proactive with its management of COVID and have made the decision to withdraw from a football game in Newcastle scheduled for this weekend. We will continue to monitor the situation and update you with sporting changes when required. We would ask that all parent/carers who have children participating in community sport ensure they are following COVID guidelines, promote hand hygiene and social distancing. We all need to do our bit to keep our school and broader community safe.
25.01.2022 Farewell Year 12 - 2020 This year has been one full of questions, ones which often had no answer, or not the answer that we would have liked. But, having asked several questions of several people, Departments and organisations we finally received the answer we wanted which was a ‘YES’ to being able to hold our Year 12 farewell assembly and formal evening. (This came about due to COVID-19 changes for schools.) 2020 has been very challenging and unsettling for our Year 12 cohor...t and, wanting to offer them the best possible send-off we could, Farrer decided to wait as long as possible before making a final decision on the end of year activities. So, on Thursday 12 November we were able to hold the final assembly in the Michael Kilborn Centre at school, with the boys and their parents in attendance and a small group of staff members to witness the event. At the conclusion of the assembly our Year 7 11 students formed the traditional Guard of Honour which funneled our boys from the MKC to Centre Lawn, making a wonderful finale to the assembly. During the proceedings students were presented with their portfolios, first in subject awards and special character or service awards. The Captains delivered some heartfelt speeches and the audience was entertained with two video presentations and the traditional display of baby photos as each student was called to the stage. Congratulations Year 12 on your graduation and we wish you every success in your future endeavors. See more
25.01.2022 Yr.11 Farrer Physics boys have been busy this term in class with their Rocketry Depth Study. The boys designed their custom rockets using the CAD program OpenRocket and then began the building phase of the project. Before launching they ran a variety of simulations to test for stability and estimated altitude. Stay tuned for the launch!
25.01.2022 After a disrupted and problematic year, Farrer MAHS is delighted to report an outstanding set of HSC results for the 2020 cohort. These wonderful results are apparent not only in achievements of academic excellence, but also in a strong spine of results which extended throughout the entire year group. This reflects a culture where everyone is willing to give it their best shot. In a year where there was perhaps every reason to make complaints, the Farrer boys without exceptio...n demonstrated aptitude, perseverance and resilience to achieve a performance of which we can all feel justifiably proud. A special mention must go to the teaching staff who adapted brilliantly during the COVID disruption to provide a continued instruction and support to our HSC students. The teachers stood beside their students every step of the way. The expertise and professionalism of the staff is a beacon to cast back the shadows of a difficult year. We extend our congratulations to our HSC students and teaching staff and wish them a Happy Christmas and a New Year of opportunity and prosperity.
25.01.2022 The Knock-On Effect - Greg Alexander & Brad Fittler On Tuesday Greg Alexander, Brad Fittler and their team visited Farrer and spoke to Year 10 and Year 11 students about the importance of road safety and not being afraid to speak out if you are not comfortable with a situation. Following the talk they then ran the First X111 side through a Rugby League skills session on the oval. The Knock-On effect campaign was officially launched last year and... has seen Greg, Brad and the team visit High Schools across Sydney and around the state to speak to students about road safety and how every decision made on the road matters. Fittler said We’re here with NSW Roads and Traffic and running a program about the Knock-On Effect and accidents and fatalities on the road and what they do to communities. Schools and sporting clubs play an important role in supporting communities affected by road trauma by promoting positive messages around road safety and we’re here to tell our story in the hopes it will change people’s attitudes. In 1992, Alexander tragically lost his brother Ben in a car accident and the pair have since teamed up with Transport for NSW to deliver a new road safety campaign targeting reckless driving among teenagers with the aim to reduce the number of road accidents, particularly in regional communities. A big thank you to Tom Lahrs for organising this very informative talk.
25.01.2022 Sporting Coach of the Year Every year we present the Farrer Sporting Club Coach of the Year Award. This isn’t just the person who has led a team, or individual, to competition success, but who has established a strong rapport with the students and parents. ... This is a person who instils the ideals of sportsmanship, personifies the balance between school and sport and who demonstrates, encourages and actively promotes respect to self, team mates, coaches and officials. The 2020 Farrer Sporting Coach of the Year goes to .Mr Tom Lahrs! Congratulations Tom.

25.01.2022 Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition Jake Robinson (Graduate 2017) is one of ten of the best young auctioneers in Queensland and will battle it out for the state title at the Silverdale Saleyards Queensland. Here is his story: ... JAKE Robinson, Nutrien Ag Roma, confesses to being surprised when named among the 10 finalists for the Queensland leg of the ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition. At best, he said, he was hopeful of making the cut. "I feel pretty good about being in the competition final," the 21-year-old admitted. "But I did not know I would get in. I was only hopeful about being involved and I have to thank the people here at Nutrien for nominating me and giving me this opportunity to represent them. "It's going to be a great experience." Mr Robinson was raised in Tamworth in New South Wales where his family is involved in beef production. Away from the family farm, he got a taste of other facets of the agricultural business during his high school years and has relished the past few years working in an industry he enjoys. "I did some work experience in Tamworth for Landmark (now Nutrien) and then got a job up here," he said. "I like this business so much it's going to be my career for the foreseeable future. "I find dealing with clients and getting a good result for them is a favourite part of the business. It leaves you feeling pretty happy because you get a sense of having achieved something." To ready himself for an appearance at Silverdale, Mr Robinson will continue to sell store and prime cattle each week and, as always, will make recordings. "I listen to what I say and work out ways to improve," he said.
24.01.2022 82nd Farrer Speech Day Speech Day is an occasion when we are able to acknowledge and congratulate students who have achieved in various areas of school life for example; First in Subject/Year, and awards for Character & Service or in the Agricultural arena. It is also an opportunity to recognise community members who have contributed to Farrer. This year we were fortunate to be offered the use of the Tamworth Regional Entertainment and Conference Centre (TRECC) enabling our S...peech Day to proceed, albeit COVID-19 style. Thank you to the Tamworth Regional Council for this opportunity. Also, thank you to our sponsors, both private and commercial, for their ongoing support, particularly in 2020 when businesses have been struggling due to the pandemic restrictions. Our Guest Speaker this year was Old Boy Nathan Morris, who graduated in 2004 and is now a journalist with the ABC. Nathan regaled us with amusing anecdotes from his career which has spanned a variety of sectors from Production & Arts Departments’ film work to being a reporter in Kalgoorlie covering mining and remote desert Aboriginal communities. Nathan is now based in Toowoomba covering this diverse, growing region that extends as far west as Cunnamulla. Congratulations to all of our prize winners who worked extremely hard to achieve these awards and thank you to all the students, parents and special guests who contributed to making this a special day on our school calendar. 23.01.2022 Farrer's Year 7 Geography classes are completing an assessment task to measure the liveability of Tamworth. We'd value your perspective on how liveable you believe Tamworth is when considering environmental, social, cultural, economic and infrastructure factors. This survey data will be used by the students to put together a report on the liveability of Tamworth. We're keen to hear from you, whether you are a Tamworth local or live out of town. Usually our Year 7 students go ...out into the community to ask locals to participate, but due to COVID-19 restrictions this year, they are unable to do this, so your help is very much appreciated. We estimate this survey will take 10 minutes to complete. Please read the criteria carefully as the rating scale changes for some questions. https://docs.google.com//1FAIpQLSdYcsOVUl5HPd2N1/viewform The survey will close this FRIDAY 7 AUGUST. Thank you for your time completing this survey. Kind regards, Jamie Bailey HSIE Faculty
23.01.2022 Vex Robotics Competition (VRC) report Thursday 26th of November, Farrer hosted Oxley High School in a robotics tournament playing the game "Change up". In VRC, teams are paired together in rotating alliances facing off against an opposing alliance. All three Farrer teams received awards for their efforts, The Copperheads won the Build and Design awards for their ambitious ball intake and thrower. ... The Taipans had an excellent record for the tournament with 17 wins and a tie in their 18 matches, in addition to winning the Think Award for their excellent autonomous routine, and being tournament champions with the Tree Frogs. While the season has been cut short due to covid-19, a second event has been scheduled for Term 1, next year. Thanks to our friends at Oxley for the great day, to the two coaches, Mr Dodds and Mr Vigar, and to the student volunteers who made the day possible.
22.01.2022 U14A's Rugby Union Last Friday Farrer U14A's Rugby Union team played in the Grand Final at Scully Park. Captained by Charlie Grills (Flanker) and Vice Captained by Riley Gentle (Fly-Half) the team started strong and were up 5-0 early in the first half. TAS came back with a converted try under the posts to bring the score to 5-7. Farrer continued their game plan and dominated throughout the first half and came into the second half with a comfortable lead. Farrer extended upon ...the lead in the second half, finishing up 27-7. Well done to all the players including those who were unable to play due to injury. Many thanks to Kym Hagon for coaching and training the boys with me, I couldn't have had the same success without you. What a great undefeated season gents. 22.01.2022 UNE Grass Program 2020 by Bill Tydd On the 16th and 17th of November myself and three other boys: Jamie Fitz-Roy, Patrick Hickey and Nick Kable attended an online workshop put forward by the University of New England aimed at broadening horizons for career paths for Year 11 and 12 students. GRASS stands for Growing Regional and Agricultural Students in Science and helps advocate the wide career options available in Primary Industries and Science. Usually this program include...s a student camp, industry placement, and reporting back on the scholarship experience. However, due to the year that is 2020 and coronavirus, we were unable to attend the student camp. Instead it was hosted by zoom and was still effective in conveying important career messages to us students. Myself, Pat Hickey and Jamie Fitz-Roy were lucky enough to receive the Industry Placement Scholarship, which entails and award of $500, a week's worth of work placement in high end companies in the agricultural and science fields such as Cotton Australia, Eco Logical Australia and the Animal Genetics Breeding Unit (AGBU) at UNE and then a presentation of the what was conducted during work placement at UNE in early February. Overall the two days were very helpful in selecting a career path to pursue and deciding what you want to do in the future and I can highly recommend this program for people interested in pursuing a career in Agriculture or Science.
22.01.2022 Northern School's Steer Competition Mr Gareth Garnsey Wednesday 18th and Thursday 19th November saw 15 students, Mr John Drenkhahn and Mr Gareth Garnsey travel to Glen Innes to participate in the Northern School's Steer Competition. The competition itself was quite large with over 14 schools present, 110 students and over 60 animals. ... The boys performed brilliantly, there were many compliments from other schools and teachers highly praising the Farrer students for their conduct, behaviour and presentation. Farrer was privileged to come away with some placings and ribbons. Nearly every student who led a steer in Parading Classes made it to the final for their age group, which is huge considering for most of the younger students this was their first competition. Results were as follows: Junior Judging: Ned Swain 3rd place Bailey Hannaford 5th place Parading Classes: Juniors 7/8/9: Tom Devine 1st place Seniors 10/11/12: Billy Swain 5th place Most of our steers finished in the middleweight classes, with one in the heavyweight and one in the un-led. Steer Classes Middleweight weight: 1st Place 4th Place 5th Place Heavyweight: 3rd Place Unled: 5th place It was a huge two days and the boys were an absolute credit to themselves and the school. Farrer is so fortunate to have such an active program like this.
22.01.2022 Farrer wins the Northern NSW Schools Shooting Carnival Friday 30 October the Farrer Clay Target Shooting Team competed in the Northern NSW Schools - Down The Line (DTL) Carnival. Farrer were successful on the day winning the Overall School Championship. Fifty Shooters came from as far as Woodenbong and Bathurst. This is the largest field ever for this competition and exceeded the expectations of the organisers. Shooters were from AA Grade through to C Grade and all enjoyed ...the good weather and beautiful facilities at the Tamworth Clay Target Club. Tom Laird shot 114/115 to take out B High Gun with Harry Klepzig only one behind on 113/114. The Overall High gun was Fletcher Richardson, one point in front of Tom Laird on 115/120. There were lots of highlights in the day, including both Tom and Harry being the only shooters in the field to hit a perfect 20/20 in the Double Rise. The boys enjoyed the day and once again competed in a manner which upheld Farrer traditions. Many thanks to the parents who supported their sons, Coach Peter Holmes, Calibre Country and the Tamworth CTC.

21.01.2022 Semester 1 HSIE Student in the Spotlight. Every term the HSIE Faculty recognise a student who has displayed exceptional application towards his studies. Due to Covid-19, this was difficult to do in term 1. As a result, we decided to focus on the combined efforts of students during both the extended period of online learning, and the reconnection to face-to-face teaching. This semester we nominated numerous students, but through the narrowing process, we could not split between 2 students. As a result, the Semester 1 HSIE Student in the Spotlight goes to both students, who also happen to be brothers. Congratulations Zac Cooper (Year 11) and John Cooper (Year 7) on your outstanding efforts this semester.
21.01.2022 A Flying Visit Is it possible to be on holiday and yet attend school at the same time? Well, having recently visited the flying college, where 160 of our Farrer boarders are currently residing, I would say it is. Arriving late in the afternoon I felt a distinct charge in the atmosphere of boys letting off steam and engaging in a variety of activities such as basketball, ‘volley football’, and ‘barefoot tennis’. Others were happily working out in the well-equipped weights room... under the watchful eye of Duty Team Members music blaring, of course! The accommodation is pretty impressive at the college with each student occupying their own ensuite room. These rooms are spread over six double storey dormitory style buildings surrounding the main hub of the college. On talking to Farrer staff I learnt that the dormitory blocks each have a resident staff member and a Year 11 monitor assigned to them 24/7. Along with the Duty Office and Health Centre, all manned by Farrer staff, plus security guards, the boys are fully supervised and cared for at all times. As I wandered around the facilities I couldn’t help but notice all the familiar faces of young ‘Old Boys’: Sam Driscoll, Sam Wentworth, Toby McVey and Gareth Garnsey (currently teaching at Farrer), some of whom are doing a ‘sort of’ COVID GAP year studying and working, which can’t be all bad who said they couldn’t wait to leave Farrer! At 5.30pm the rush was on for a place in the first sitting dinner line, which was carefully controlled by the flying college COVID Marshall and Duty Team members to ensure everyone did the right thing. Dinner over, announcements made, I took my leave and left the boys to head to Prep.
21.01.2022 The Industrial Technology - Multimedia class of 2020 created projects using a wide variety of software tools. The 3 video clips posted here are a sample of just 3 of the projects completed. Some great creativity and technical skills went into the projects from the class of 2020.

18.01.2022 World Teachers Day Today Farrer celebrates being part of a remarkable profession and its bright future. Teachers (with support from parents and carers) have ensured education continues across the country this year, despite major challenges. It’s reinforced the significant role teacher’s play in the lives of children and students, their families and communities. ... To all of our wonderful teachers, the Farrer non-teaching staff send you a BIG thank you!
18.01.2022 HSC Industrial Technology Major Projects At the end of Term 3 our Year 12 students has their HSC Major Projects in Industrial Technology marked. This year it involved external markers appraising student Project Folios which outlined the design development, related research and management of their Major Project, some of these Folios were up to 80 show comprehensive detail. The Major Projects themselves were marked by the TAS teachers due to Covid restrictions and these marks... have been forwarded to NESA. On show are projects ranging from trailers, ute trays, stock loading systems, tool boxes, ute back storage & dog boxes, island cutting boards, bed with bedside tables, entertainment units, coffee tables and multimedia productions involving video, 3D virtual reality game development, 2D game development, 3D model-lighting & texture portfolio and many other interesting concepts. The student work is a culmination of almost 12 months’ work and the quality of work is very pleasing. The teaching staff have provided great support to the students and we expect HSC results to be in the higher bands for many students. For almost all students, their result in Industrial Technology will be the best result they achieve in their HSC. Many of these students will seek work in the agricultural sector, trades and some will be aspiring to progress onto university.
17.01.2022 Year 10 Commerce Market Day Wednesday 28th October the Year 10 Commerce class ran the first of two "Market Day Activities". In these activities the boys create and run a business for a day.... One of our very creative HSIE teachers - Ms Bailey, decided to make ‘Steel Dollars’ with the Head Teacher of HSIE - Mr Josh Steel featured on the $5 note. Teachers were allocated a quantity of these notes and handed them out to students who were working hard and showing commitment in class. Any student in possession of this note could use it to purchase food at the Market Day. All monies raised from the day will go towards Movember.
16.01.2022 Every Friday 20 Farrer students head into the Freestyle Bouldering Gym in Tamworth to exercise their bodies and minds. There is a large number of different routes which are all worth a unique number of points. Most climbs are not as straight forward as they seem, with the Farrer boys often instructing each other on how to tackle various segments of a climb. Thanks to Chris Eather who runs the Freestyle Bouldering Gym for his support and encouragement. At the moment we have one Farrer team in the top three of the interschools competition as we approach the half way point in the competition. Mr.Dodds & Ms.Clausen

15.01.2022 The Year 9 Sports Coaching class has had to wait a long time to test out their coaching skills on younger students. Each Wednesday the Year 9 class travels to Tamworth Public School and coaches the kindergarten students in the basic movement skills of skipping. In Year 10 students who participate in the Sports Coaching class will travel to local primary schools and coach the students in a range of football codes.
15.01.2022 The Year10 Science class showed some great work on their Science Research Projects. This is Ethan Cohen’s investigation into Ferrofluid and how it can be used to infer the strength of a magnetic field. He tested Neodymium magnets placed under a beaker after measuring their strength with the mobile phone app. He is now comparing the magnet strength to the number of peaks on the ferrofluid and plotting this on a graph to come up with an equation that fits his data. I challeng...ed my class to come up with a unique investigation that is simple in design but can have layers of complexity. Others include; finding the specific heat capacity of a potato, testing CPU thermal paste efficiency, the effect of acids on tooth decay on REAL teeth! Making and testing the efficiency of a portable Wind turnbine made from cheap off the shelf components to be used in remote locations and many more! See more
14.01.2022 A minute’s silence honouring the passing of the wonderful Pat Kilborn commenced the Davidson Shield match between Farrer MAHS and Oxley HS. The contribution of the Kilborn family to Tamworth education and cricket is without equal vale Pat and our deepest condolences to John and the family. Oxley HS won the toss and elected to bat. Early inroads from skipper Joey Mead were followed by economical spells from Joey Ryan and Harry Lewington. As often happens, the tight bowling p...ressured Oxley into error, with cagey leg-spinner Luke Gentle destroying the lower order and picking up 3 wickets. In the end, Oxley could amass only 74, thanks largely to some powerful hitting and rugged defence form the Oxley captain Sam Murphy. The Farrer openers began the run chase confidently, with Sam Fox playing several dashing cuts and drives. His dismissal brought together the Henderson kids. Having weathered some accurate fast bowling, Charlie and Mitch Henderson tempered brute strength with elegance, punishing the bowlers to most sectors of the picturesque no.4 oval. Farrer won the game by nine wickets. Congratulations to both sides for playing some excellent cricket in the right spirit.

13.01.2022 Debating inspires confidence in public speaking and a broader understanding of the world. Last Friday, a collective of Year 10 Farrer students spent the day in the Clubhouse developing their debating skills. This included a live zoom debate vs Quirindi HS as a part of the NSW Teasdale Cup debating competition. Despite losing narrowly, all the boys spoke with great poise and intelligence, offering some detailed rebuttal and a very solid model of their logic. Congratulations to Ryan Marzato, Chad Buckman, Aaron Humbert, Ollie Sykes, Joe Slager, Hugh Shadwell and Henry Johns on their efforts and improvement.
13.01.2022 Year 10 Market Day The Year 10 Market Day was a huge success. Over the two weeks, the 15 teams worked extremely hard to turnover $9,725 in sales. This left us with $4,135 profit. Half of the profits are being donated between two charities - $500 to Movember to help out the seniors and $1,564 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter. The team that made the most profit of $537, and took home the Commerce Cup was Steak Shaq. The team members were Ilki Boyraz, Jack Murdoch, Troy Schutt ...and Zac Walters. Well done to all the boys!

11.01.2022 2020 Farrer Angus Bull Sale The 2020 Farrer Angus bull sale was held on Wednesday 24th June under very different conditions. Due to Covid 19 restrictions the sale was run entirely on Auctions Plus. The students watched the sale online and filled out the board to track the sale as it went. 28 bulls were offered with 25 selling at auction for a 90% clearance and an average of $5680.... The top price bull was Lot 24 who sold for $10,500 to an undisclosed purchaser. Whilst disappointed that they could not run the sale in the traditional format the Certificate III Agriculture students were happy with the overall result of the sale with an overall increase in the number of bulls sold and an increase in the average. They would like to thank everyone who came to inspect the bulls privately and who supported the sale, along with all the agriculture and farm staff for their support and assistance.

10.01.2022 The first Clay Target competition, after the COVID shutdown, took place last Sunday (2nd August) and saw seven Farrer shooters participate. Harry Klepzig (Year 10) took out the B Grade competition with a score that would have seen him comfortably win an A Grade competition, this included a 29/30 in Double Rise. Campbell Alderson (Year 9) also shot well taking out the C Grade competition. All students competed strongly and fairly throughout the day.... The students’ exemplary behaviour didn’t go unnoticed with Mr Wade being complimented several times over the day well done to all.

09.01.2022 Year 12 Farrer Formal Dinner The Farrer Formal is steeped in tradition and most of these we were able to proceed with during the evening - COVID-19 safe of course. The evening kicked off with a group photo of year 12 then each student was presented with their personally engraved Pewter tankard, funded by the PT&F, speeches were made, bouquets presented, the Mother and Son Dance held and families could take advantage of the formal photographer and/or the Happy Booth. This eve...nt is usually three months in the planning, but this year we managed to pull it off in 9 days! So, a massive thank you goes to the Jockey Club for the last minute booking, Corey’s Catering for rustling up a delicious meal at short notice, Old Boy Tyson Hubbard for DJ-ing and Admin team for their organisational skills. The boys turned out resplendently in their suits or sports jackets and the girls looked stunning as always. Mums and Dads came from all over the countryside, some from across the border, to support their sons’ which I am sure the boys were very grateful for. Well done to all on this huge effort which was so worthwhile to see how much the boys enjoyed the night. Roll on 2021 so we can do it all again but hopefully without the COVID issue! See more
09.01.2022 Here - Piggy, Piggy Piggy Today, Wednesday 21st October Farrer finally acquired some pigs for our new piggery. The old piggery was damaged in a storm and the new improved shed built, has been waiting for some occupants. It is a new approach to the rearing pigs at Farrer in 2020. ... Terry Balla from Goodyear Tyres in Tamworth, has allowed Farrer to raise his ‘Tamworth’ breed pigs ,with the boys performing all the husbandry duties. Tamworth pigs originated from England and were imported to Australia in the 1890’s. Tamworth’s are an extremely hardy breed and are excellent mothers with a litter size of 8 to 12 piglets. When the pigs reach a certain weight they will be returned to Terry and Farrer will be given a new lot and so the process starts all over again. Thank you Terry for allowing the boys the opportunity to rear your pigs and learn the finer facts of the ‘Tamworth’ pig.
08.01.2022 Last Friday, the Year 9-10 debating team investigated the impact of sport on society. In the afternoon we debated Canley Vale HS , the topic being ‘That we should ban alcohol and gambling companies from sponsoring sport’, with Farrer taking the negative case. It was truly an excellent debate, with the Canley Vale girls eventually emerging victorious after a lengthy adjudication. However, there was great honour won in defeat the Farrer boys had clearly argued with distinction and intelligence well done!
08.01.2022 The boys were excited to see their efforts come to fruition as they launched their single stage, custom built rockets on the final day of school.

06.01.2022 Lachlan McNee a Year 9 student has been asked to compete in the 2020 State Bouldering Competition at the Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym from 12th November to 15th November. Lachlan has only been involved in Rock Bouldering since the start of the year deciding to elect it for Friday sport at school. Lachlan said I soon found an interest in bouldering and progressed and got better, on October 24th I was recognised and asked to compete in the Sydney 2020 State Bouldering Competitio...n by the owner of Freestyle Bouldering Gym at Tamworth Chris Eather. In recent years, climbing has become a truly popular sport, mostly because of numerous climbing gyms: more and more athletes are attracted by vertical challenges, both indoor and outdoor, and the trend continues. All this for a very good reason: climbing is a complex mind challenging sport which trains most of our 656 muscles. Good luck Lachlan, we look forward to hearing how you went in the competition.

03.01.2022 Tamworth Lookout Excursion by Ben McCumstie On the 7th August Year 7 went to the Tamworth Lookout for a Field Skills lesson. While at the lookout we had to draw a precise map and a photo sketch for our Place and Liveability topic in Geography. We went in two separate groups, one group went before recess and the other group went between recess and lunch.... When we got there it was very cold and we got a few minutes to admire the view, then we got into the work. The first activity we did was colouring in a precise map, we coloured the Retail and Commercial areas as well as the Industrial and Recreational areas in different colours. After we finished our precise map we talked about how to do a photo sketch, but, due to time issues we didn’t get time to do the photo sketch at the lookout. We ended up doing those sketches at school in our next Geography class. Thank you to Mr Smith, Mr Olrich, Miss Bailey, Miss McDonagh and Mrs Wilde for taking us on this excursion.
03.01.2022 First X111 by Mark Simon G’Day Boys, Farrer First X111 played St Edwards College Gosford last Wednesday (5th August). First quarter was a little rusty but strongly striking back in the second quarter with Mitch Henderson scoring a double to put Farrer in front.... We kicked off the second half with great attack and defensive efforts all round. Unfortunately a 90 metre intercept try late in the second half by St Edwards saw Farrer lose 18-16. I’d like to thank Mr Moore and Mr Lahrs for coaching, Mr Lesslie for Managing the team and Mr Train for running water.
03.01.2022 Annual White Suffolk Ram Sale. Yesterday 9th September Farrer held its 26th Annual White Suffolk Ram Sale. With COVID-19 restrictions in place the sale was solely online through Auctions Plus, with buyers from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania registering and hoping to take home some of Farrer’s bred bloodlines.... The Year 10 Wool Science students sat and eagerly watched as the sale produced a 100% clearance rate and a near record average for the school. The 57 rams sold for a total of $130,100 and the top priced ram, sold for $14,500! They averaged $2,282 which is our second highest average for the whole stud, Year 10 student Hugh Shadwell said. It’s all credit to the students, they’ve been looking after these rams since they were lambs and have brought them all the way through, Stud Manager and Agriculture Teacher Darren Smith said. Well done to the Year 10 Wool Science students and to Mr Darren Smith, what a great result.
02.01.2022 NSW VET in School Student of the Year Award Hugo Barnes in Year 12 is the NSW VET in School Student of the Year Award Runner-Up for 2020, in Certificate II Agriculture. The NSW Training Awards are conducted annually by Training Services NSW to recognise outstanding achievement in the vocational education and training sector. The award honours and rewards the achievements of students, trainers/teachers, training organisations, large and medium employers. The award is open to f...ull-time Year 11 or 12 school students undertaking accredited vocational education and training as part of their HSC studies. This year there were more than 60 students that were nominated and applied for the award. Hugo Barnes and Harry Page were nominated by the school and after the interview process Hugo and Harry were both successful in placing as one of 8 finalists. The students were further hampered this year by COVID 19, having to do their interview via Zoom. The judges made their final decision on the application the student submitted and how well they interviewed. Hugo was informed about his success on Friday 26th June via live stream on Facebook and was thrilled to learn about his achievement. Well done Hugo, what a fantastic achievement for an amazing young man.
02.01.2022 Year 10 Commerce Market Day On Wednesday Week 3 and Thursday Week 4, Year 10 Commerce classes held their 'Running a Business' Market Day in the CAVPAV. From popcorn chicken, banga sangas, nachos, brownies and cookies to pancakes and ice cream, there was a huge variety of stalls on offer for the boys to purchase a sweet feed at recess and lunch. Some stalls relied on their creativity with inventive names, free throw competitions and Teletubby mascots, while others let their f...ood do the talking. The first round was extremely successful, turning over $5000 for the day, while the second week was unfortunately hampered by bad weather. In both cases, Year 10 had a great time and learnt some valuable insights on how to run a business. A huge thank you to the all the staff involved, including the Refectory staff for all their work cooking, the Maintenance staff for helping with the set up and the teachers who gave up their recess and lunch to ensure it was a COVID safe event.
02.01.2022 Year 7 Car Wash As a thank you and farewell gift, Year 7 organised and participated in washing the Year 12 cars last Wednesday afternoon. A special mention to our volunteer car wash committee who organised the event: Archie Gavin, Luke Lowick, Leon Hystek, Fletcher Roll, Harrison Lyon, Nicholas Page and Patrick Belt.
