21.01.2022 Annual White Suffolk Ram Sale. Yesterday 9th September Farrer held its 26th Annual White Suffolk Ram Sale. With COVID-19 restrictions in place the sale was sole...ly online through Auctions Plus, with buyers from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania registering and hoping to take home some of Farrer’s bred bloodlines. The Year 10 Wool Science students sat and eagerly watched as the sale produced a 100% clearance rate and a near record average for the school. The 57 rams sold for a total of $130,100 and the top priced ram, sold for $14,500! They averaged $2,282 which is our second highest average for the whole stud, Year 10 student Hugh Shadwell said. It’s all credit to the students, they’ve been looking after these rams since they were lambs and have brought them all the way through, Stud Manager and Agriculture Teacher Darren Smith said. Well done to the Year 10 Wool Science students and to Mr Darren Smith, what a great result.

21.01.2022 U14A's Rugby Union Last Friday Farrer U14A's Rugby Union team played in the Grand Final at Scully Park. Captained by Charlie Grills (Flanker) and Vice Captained... by Riley Gentle (Fly-Half) the team started strong and were up 5-0 early in the first half. TAS came back with a converted try under the posts to bring the score to 5-7. Farrer continued their game plan and dominated throughout the first half and came into the second half with a comfortable lead. Farrer extended upon the lead in the second half, finishing up 27-7. Well done to all the players including those who were unable to play due to injury. Many thanks to Kym Hagon for coaching and training the boys with me, I couldn't have had the same success without you. What a great undefeated season gents. You trained and played with heart and passion every game. Matt Dodds ~ U14A's Co-coach. See more

21.01.2022 Please be advised that this year’s 2020 Farrer Old Boys Re-union has been cancelled. With the current COVID-19 position we felt that the re-union would not be in the interest of the Public Health requirements. As many of you would be aware there are now so many requirements that need to be in place to have such a function. The health and safety of all has been taken into consideration along with the border closures and travelling to a non-essential area in this decision. We will further discuss having a combined Re-Union next year and keep you updated along the way. The committee would like to thank you for your support and understanding of this decision. Cheers, Jock Stier on behalf of Farrer Old Committee.

20.01.2022 Queensland Young Auctioneers Competition Jake Robinson (Graduate 2017) is one of ten of the best young auctioneers in Queensland and will battle it out for the... state title at the Silverdale Saleyards Queensland. Here is his story: JAKE Robinson, Nutrien Ag Roma, confesses to being surprised when named among the 10 finalists for the Queensland leg of the ALPA Young Auctioneers Competition. At best, he said, he was hopeful of making the cut. "I feel pretty good about being in the competition final," the 21-year-old admitted. "But I did not know I would get in. I was only hopeful about being involved and I have to thank the people here at Nutrien for nominating me and giving me this opportunity to represent them. "It's going to be a great experience." Mr Robinson was raised in Tamworth in New South Wales where his family is involved in beef production. Away from the family farm, he got a taste of other facets of the agricultural business during his high school years and has relished the past few years working in an industry he enjoys. "I did some work experience in Tamworth for Landmark (now Nutrien) and then got a job up here," he said. "I like this business so much it's going to be my career for the foreseeable future. "I find dealing with clients and getting a good result for them is a favourite part of the business. It leaves you feeling pretty happy because you get a sense of having achieved something." To ready himself for an appearance at Silverdale, Mr Robinson will continue to sell store and prime cattle each week and, as always, will make recordings. "I listen to what I say and work out ways to improve," he said.

20.01.2022 Debating inspires confidence in public speaking and a broader understanding of the world. Last Friday, a collective of Year 10 Farrer students spent the day in... the Clubhouse developing their debating skills. This included a live zoom debate vs Quirindi HS as a part of the NSW Teasdale Cup debating competition. Despite losing narrowly, all the boys spoke with great poise and intelligence, offering some detailed rebuttal and a very solid model of their logic. Congratulations to Ryan Marzato, Chad Buckman, Aaron Humbert, Ollie Sykes, Joe Slager, Hugh Shadwell and Henry Johns on their efforts and improvement. See more

19.01.2022 Old Boy Jackson Dening runs an ‘Amazing Race’. Congratulations to Jackson Dening (Graduate Yr12 2014) and his cousin in-law Brendon on their outstanding achieve...ment of winning The Amazing Race. Jackson certainly proved time and time again that the Farrer school motto ‘ Strength in Adversity’ stood him in good stead to win the race. From attempting to eat 100 oysters singled handed, to facing his fears on the high ladder walk in the Blue Mountains and to inhaling several litres of Lake Burleigh Griffin his strength shone through to take him and Brendan onto win the $250,000. The’ Cowboy’s worked as a team encouraging each other when times were tough and making us laugh with their off the cuff comments. Farrer is proud to call you an Old Boy Jackson good work. 12.01.2022 First X111 by Mark Simon G’Day Boys, Farrer First X111 played St Edwards College Gosford last Wednesday (5th August). First quarter was a little rusty but stron...gly striking back in the second quarter with Mitch Henderson scoring a double to put Farrer in front. We kicked off the second half with great attack and defensive efforts all round. Unfortunately a 90 metre intercept try late in the second half by St Edwards saw Farrer lose 18-16. I’d like to thank Mr Moore and Mr Lahrs for coaching, Mr Lesslie for Managing the team and Mr Train for running water.

07.01.2022 The Knock-On Effect - Greg Alexander & Brad Fittler On Tuesday Greg Alexander, Brad Fittler and their team visited Farrer and spoke to Year 10 and Year 11 stude...nts about the importance of road safety and not being afraid to speak out if you are not comfortable with a situation. Following the talk they then ran the First X111 side through a Rugby League skills session on the oval. The Knock-On effect campaign was officially launched last year and has seen Greg, Brad and the team visit High Schools across Sydney and around the state to speak to students about road safety and how every decision made on the road matters. Fittler said We’re here with NSW Roads and Traffic and running a program about the Knock-On Effect and accidents and fatalities on the road and what they do to communities. Schools and sporting clubs play an important role in supporting communities affected by road trauma by promoting positive messages around road safety and we’re here to tell our story in the hopes it will change people’s attitudes. In 1992, Alexander tragically lost his brother Ben in a car accident and the pair have since teamed up with Transport for NSW to deliver a new road safety campaign targeting reckless driving among teenagers with the aim to reduce the number of road accidents, particularly in regional communities. A big thank you to Tom Lahrs for organising this very informative talk.

07.01.2022 Every Friday 20 Farrer students head into the Freestyle Bouldering Gym in Tamworth to exercise their bodies and minds. There is a large number of different rou...tes which are all worth a unique number of points. Most climbs are not as straight forward as they seem, with the Farrer boys often instructing each other on how to tackle various segments of a climb. Thanks to Chris Eather who runs the Freestyle Bouldering Gym for his support and encouragement. At the moment we have one Farrer team in the top three of the interschools competition as we approach the half way point in the competition. Mr.Dodds & Ms.Clausen See more

04.01.2022 HSC Industrial Technology Major Projects At the end of Term 3 our Year 12 students has their HSC Major Projects in Industrial Technology marked. This year it ...involved external markers appraising student Project Folios which outlined the design development, related research and management of their Major Project, some of these Folios were up to 80 show comprehensive detail. The Major Projects themselves were marked by the TAS teachers due to Covid restrictions and these marks have been forwarded to NESA. On show are projects ranging from trailers, ute trays, stock loading systems, tool boxes, ute back storage & dog boxes, island cutting boards, bed with bedside tables, entertainment units, coffee tables and multimedia productions involving video, 3D virtual reality game development, 2D game development, 3D model-lighting & texture portfolio and many other interesting concepts. The student work is a culmination of almost 12 months’ work and the quality of work is very pleasing. The teaching staff have provided great support to the students and we expect HSC results to be in the higher bands for many students. For almost all students, their result in Industrial Technology will be the best result they achieve in their HSC. Many of these students will seek work in the agricultural sector, trades and some will be aspiring to progress onto university.

03.01.2022 Pro-Ed Party wins the 2020 Farrer Year 9 Commerce election The Pro-Ed Party, led by new Prime Minister Charlie Henderson, has won the 2020 Farrer Year 9 Commerc...e Election. They will be sworn in as the new Government of Australia on Thursday 19 November 2020. Despite a spirited and popular grassroots campaign from the Future Australia Party, Mr Henderson’s party was able to hold their traditional constituency and make significant gains in electorates traditionally held by other parties. Thankfully, there were no unsubstantiated allegations of widespread voter fraud, vote tampering or demands to ‘count all legal votes.’ The unsuccessful parties took the defeat gracefully, demonstrating the strength of Australia’s democracy. For their Political Involvement Assessment Task, 65 students from the three Commerce classes created their own political party. Each party designed a three-policy platform, supported by a five-minute video, a how-to-vote card, and a poster for their election campaign. Within each class, elections were held to determine the two most popular parties. These six parties then presented their videos, posters, and an ‘elevator pitch’ to all of Year 9 to seek election on Tuesday 10 November 2020. The Healthier Australia Party (Lewis Shepherdson), Pro-Ed Party (Charlie Henderson), Growth Project Party (Beau Berg-Williams), Sustainable Australia Party (Dusty Hagon), Australian People’s Party (Hugo Pollard) and Future Australia Party (Lachlan Overton) contested the election on Tuesday. They ran on diverse platforms with catchy slogans and well-considered policy ideas, including increasing renewable energy, free university, improved health services, increasing the minimum wage, decreasing Centrelink, increasing taxes for big companies and ‘People, Profit, Planet.’ The students learned about Australia’s political system, campaign techniques, the preferential voting system, and the importance of crafting a political message that resonates with voters. After preferences were distributed, the vote was 52 to the Pro-Ed Party, 46 to the Future Australia Party, with six invalid votes. The Pro-Ed Party ran a policy platform focused on improvements to the education system. Mr. Henderson, the newly elected Prime Minister, remarked: ‘We believe that Australia’s education system is already great, but our party believes that it’s a must to improve some essential changes to each level of the education system.’ ‘Our party will make Australia’s education system a fair and equal place for all, from young infants to young adults,’ he said. Nicholas Mead, Deputy Leader of the Pro-Ed Party, noted that: ‘We have the best leader, Charlie Henderson. He is keeping your promises, and he is going to put them into place straight away.’ There was only one allegation of skulduggery, an attempt by members of an undisclosed party to leak photos of the Healthier Australia Party members enjoying Australia’s favourite fried chicken to the media. This was dismissed as ‘fake news’. The HSIE Department congratulates all parties for the level of political awareness and active and engaged citizenship demonstrated in this task. Media contact: Jarrad Smith, Jamie Bailey and Claire McDonagh (Year 9 Commerce teachers).

02.01.2022 FARRER RAM SALE 9th Sept 2020

02.01.2022 Year 10 Commerce Market Day On Wednesday Week 3 and Thursday Week 4, Year 10 Commerce classes held their 'Running a Business' Market Day in the CAVPAV. From po...pcorn chicken, banga sangas, nachos, brownies and cookies to pancakes and ice cream, there was a huge variety of stalls on offer for the boys to purchase a sweet feed at recess and lunch. Some stalls relied on their creativity with inventive names, free throw competitions and Teletubby mascots, while others let their food do the talking. The first round was extremely successful, turning over $5000 for the day, while the second week was unfortunately hampered by bad weather. In both cases, Year 10 had a great time and learnt some valuable insights on how to run a business. A huge thank you to the all the staff involved, including the Refectory staff for all their work cooking, the Maintenance staff for helping with the set up and the teachers who gave up their recess and lunch to ensure it was a COVID safe event.
