25.01.2022 Announcement and Update Local Jobs Program for the Illawarra and South Coast The Australian government has announced a new program to support Australians into employment and training. The Local Jobs Program is a $62.8 million initiative that will support tailored approaches to reskilling, upskilling and employment in 25 regions across Australia.... The Illawarra and South Coast has been selected as one of the 25 targeted regions. An Employment Facilitator will be allocated to the region, who will chair a Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce that will drive development and implementation of a Local Jobs Plan. The Plan will identify key priority employment and training areas, and a Local Recovery Fund will be made available to support projects that align with the priorities included in the Plan. The Employment Facilitator and Department of Education, Skills and Employment will be working with regional stakeholders over coming weeks to form the Taskforce. Priority areas for the Local Jobs Plan are also being identified. Further updates on the Program, Taskforce formation and Local Jobs Plan development will be delivered over coming weeks. Well also be in touch with organisations and individuals as we work to pull together the Taskforce membership. For more information on the Local Jobs Program, see https://www.employment.gov.au/local-jobs-program. 24.01.2022 Labour force figures released today by the ABS for the month of July demonstrate the underlying strength of the Australian labour market and show that the easin...g of COVID-19 restrictions resulted in some improvement in the labour market. Employment increased by 114,700 (or 0.9 per cent) over the month. Full-time employment increased by 43,500 (or 0.5 per cent) and part-time employment rose by 71,200 (or 1.9 per cent). Despite todays positive figures, the Government remains acutely aware that the economic fallout from COVID-19 will continue for some time particularly in light of the outbreak of cases in Victoria. This is why the Government moved quickly to protect both the health and jobs of all Australians to help cushion the impact of the pandemic. #Employment #LabourForce
