25.01.2022 For those that are interested in our progress, here are the Stats for Week One, and the first couple of days of Week Two. You will see that our stats are at odds with the official data published this morning, and I have made a submission to the Race Director for a review. Thanks to everyone that has made a contribution so far, particularly Karen, Hari, Bec and Chloe. Any chance we can get some support from Kinta, Huon and Alison Joannou this week?

24.01.2022 The dolphins have arrived to safely escort us around Cape Otway, on our way to Adelaide. Who are you hanging out with this fine Saturday?

24.01.2022 Faster Forward Team Stats for Weeks 2 and 3 of the CYCA Sydney to Hobart Challenge. By our own calculations we have just passed the half way mark, and we have 577km to go to reach Hobart. Our Hero’s of the week so far are Huon and Hari, with outstanding contributions. A lot of cool and wet weather in Melbourne this week has slowed us up, but with 2 days to go, let’s see if we can all find a bit of time get us up over the 200km mark for the week. WIMS ON!

21.01.2022 Meal No. 2, for next weekend’s King Island race complete. Thai chicken mince with onion, coriander, chilli, soy and oyster sauce, with jasmine rice. Another job completed for our preparations.

21.01.2022 Who’s up for joining me in this challenge? Anyone lacking a bit of motivation to get moving again, and might feed off the group dynamic?

21.01.2022 Here we go again! Repaired wheel heading back to the boat for a fitting.

20.01.2022 Almost home after a great day of racing in Bass Strait. We had a great day sailing as we launch the new look, Post-COVID Faster Forward Sailing. Our next sail will be our first twilight sail for the season this coming Wednesday afternoon, with hopefully a few new crew members.

18.01.2022 For everyone who has had the opportunity to do a Melbourne To Hobart Westcoaster, and a Sydney to Hobart, and have looked up at the two famous lighthouses as they sailed passed, Maatsuyker Island on the Westcoaster & Tasman Island on the Sydney to Hobart, this is a great insight into how these lights were run in the 1960s.

16.01.2022 When we conquer the 21st Century’s global pandemic, who wants to join us on Faster Forward to remove a few more boundaries from our little sphere of action? Happy Easter everyone! Source: The Worst Journey in the World Aspley Cherry-Garrard p.182.

15.01.2022 After a big weekend of walking, the team answered the call and completed our biggest week of the three so far, with a distance of 254kms. We are now almost across Bass Strait, with approximately 393 nautical miles completed. Five teams have already finished, including our Sydney 38 rival Wild One, but our team are united in pushing on to get us to Hobart, as soon as we can. See our position on the chart, and our Week 3 and Week Four (as of today) stats below.

14.01.2022 The first leader board has been issued by CYCA for the Hobart Challenge. Whilst we are mid fleet, a few teams are fully engaged, and the leader is already 78kms ahead! Our team got a boost today with Carolyn‘s Daughter Kinta joining the team. Let’s go FFS!

13.01.2022 We have had another solid day in our push to walk to Hobart. Our new team members Chloe, Bec and Hari have made great contributions today, and we are now 56kms down the rhumb line. What can we achieve as a team tomorrow?

13.01.2022 We are now approximately 50nm south east of Robe, and dinner for night No. 3 at sea is underway. Simon’s Pot Roasted Beef, with potatoes, carrots, and broccoli. We have only three certainties in life....Death, Taxes, and eating exceptionally well at sea on Faster Forward. Who said need you need an oven on a boat to cook a roast? The metho stove and a pressure cooker work perfectly fine for us!

11.01.2022 A great night sailing tonight for our first Wednesday night sail for over 12 months. Thanks to Nick and Ian for a great 3 handed sail, which saw us jag a 6th place out of 36. It was a beautiful warm night with about 10 knots of breeze. Can’t wait for next week!

11.01.2022 What a great result! 1st on PHS! Thank you to the crew and all of our supporters. Now for Melbourne to Devonport tomorrow

10.01.2022 It is with some regret that we have had to withdraw from this weekend’s King Island race. Despite the tireless efforts of our friends who have volunteered to help with our repair work over the last few weeks since we got the boat home from Sydney, we were unable to get the wheel repaired in time for us to sail this weekend. Another week or so and Faster Forward 2.0 will be ready for a full launch to kick start the 2020 sailing calendar and ultimately the 2020 Sydney to Hobart campaign. Several of our FFS crew will be helping out on some new boats in the fleet this weekend, and will get a well deserved King Island Steak Sandwich after all!

09.01.2022 Today’s update from the Tracker for our walking challenge to Hobart is in, and while we still have a long way to go, we are not last and have a good chance of beating a few teams home, if we stick at it. Let’s see if we can improve our SOG and finish ahead of our predicted finish date of 10th of June. I will update our individual team stats shortly.

08.01.2022 Our structural repairs are now fully complete, and we are only a paint job away from being back on the water. What a summer! Not one you would ever pick for yourself, but one of great learnings, and one that will make us grateful for everything we achieve as a team going forward. From that moment the steering let go, 30nm south of Sydney Heads in our inaugural Sydney to Hobart Race as a team, until now, we have had a lot to overcome, and a lot of help and support to be eternally grateful for. We will forever be indebted to Simon Dryden, Robin Hewitt and John Weatherley for all of their blood, sweat, frustrations and most importantly ingenuity, which has resulted in repairs far superior than we could have achieved commercially! Faster Forward Sailng 2.0 is almost ready for launch!

08.01.2022 After 8 long days of hard work, our annual out of water maintenance is finished, and we are ready to go back into the water tomorrow afternoon, for a full racing program for 2021. The work completed in the last week: sanding the hull to remove old antifoul, acid wash the top sides, inspect the prop shaft and prop, and replace, including all seals bearings and the anode, cut and polish top sides, remove boom, inspect all Reefing lines and refit, install new electric bilge pump..., fix table storage mount, and service all winches. We could not have got all of this work done without the help of our crew, and a sincere thanks goes to Celia, Simon Hutchison, Ian, Edel, Kevin, Duck, Simon Dryden, Jenny Thurling, and our contractors, Doug Hem, Steve the Prop speed guy and Mariner Eng. The boat goes in the water on Friday afternoon, in time for our departure to Adelaide, ahead of the Port Lincoln passage race & regatta, in February. See more

08.01.2022 While some of us are still walking to Hobart in the CYCA Sydney to Hobart Walking Challenge, we can confirm that the official Race Entry for the 2020 Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race opened today, and Faster Forward is entered as an intended starter. Who wants to join us for a successful 2020 Campaign?

07.01.2022 After a very long 9 months of lockdown, we are finally back racing. Today’s race is a short coastal sprint race out in to Bass Strait down towards Westernport. We finally got to use our new Fractional Code 0 reaching sail and it immediately paid dividends, with us leading the fleet out of Port Phillip Heads. It is great to be back at it!

05.01.2022 We are now tied up safe and sound in Adelaide, at the RSAYS, in the company of local royalty! We had a great trip and have enjoyed a few beers and some fresh local seafood this afternoon. Happy Australia Day everyone.

04.01.2022 Nothing like Friday night Happy Hour!

04.01.2022 Our CYCA Sydney to Hobart Walking Challenge has begun in earnest. Our team is: Matt, Karen Young, Carolyn Deacon, Bec Oliver & Melissa. Thanks to Kaz & Matt, we are out of the Harbour, with 17.55km (9.47nm) covered in 3 walks/ Runs so far. Only 1,145km (618.5nm) to go!

03.01.2022 For those still following, we can report that our walking team are still on our way to Hobart, and after what can only be described as a very light and flukey week (aka wet, cold and very busy with work), we are now almost at Tasman Island, with just over 40nm to the finish. With a big push, the team can knock this distance off in the next few days. The stars of last week were Kinta Deacon, Carolyn Deacon and Karen Young.

02.01.2022 What a beautiful day to be back out on the water! Boxing Day 2020 Cock of the Bay. Crew- Simon Dryden, Matt Fahey, Tony Duckmanton, Edel Doyle, Kevin Behrens, Jenny Thurling, Simon Hutchison #orcv #fasterforwardsailing #sailmelbourne #ffs

02.01.2022 Perhaps the most famous mark I. Ocean Racing. If you haven’t been here before, what are you waiting for?

02.01.2022 Email from CYCA Sailng Office, advising of the Provisional Line Honours Winner, for the Sydney to Hobart Walking Challenge: PROVISIONAL LINE HONOURS: TERRE REVE ... At 13:16:54, "Terre Reve" crossed the finish line at Castray Esplanade on the River Derwent to become the provisional line honours winner in the inaugural S2H Challenge. Subject to audit, they are expected to be confirmed as winners of the race within the next few hours. Over night, the team pulled out all the stops against "CYCA Sailing Office", averaging almost 20km per person over a 24 hour period in their supermaxi team of 10. The CYCA Sailing Office dramatically fell behind with still 122km to complete at the time of Terre Reve finsh. Led by the pestering James Whelan, his crew of Melissa Denman, Geoffrey Holmes, Soph Chesterman, Jess Barr, Alexis Whelan, Whitney Merchant, Rachel Chen, Omid Shakabie, Tenae Leitch averaged a whopping 5.93km/hr to complete the course over the past 8 days. It is no doubt they are the winners, with 7 of the 10 members all completing more than 113km each. Soph Chesterman currently leads and will also be hard to beat for the individual top performer, finishing a massive 205.28km herself. The team is now making their way to Constitute Dock for celebrations! Well done Terre Reve.
