15.01.2022 HIP/KNEE PAIN? Hey guys! I just found this awesome side view image of the running muscles (which I talk about constantly at training). I want to draw your attention to the Illiotibial Band (ITB) right there in the centre of the front leg. This is the guy that can cause pain in your knee and/or in your hip when it gets tight. See how far up into the hip it travels? It can be the cause of that awful aching in the hip at nighttime. ... It also attaches at the knee and can cause knee pain by pulling the knee joint off centre. It’s that niggling knee pain that comes and goes and often disappears once you’ve warmed up. It’s almost impossible to get a good stretch into the ITB so the best solution I’ve found is to use a foam roller to loosen it up. Be a detective with the roller and apply firm but gentle pressure to the sorest points you can find. If ITB tightness is the cause of your hip/knee pain, foam rolling should provide instant relief. 11.01.2022 JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM STARTING 14 OCTOBER I'm very proud to announce the commencement of Fast Fit's new Junior Development Program which has been endorsed by both Midland Physiotherapy and Mundaring Hills Physiotherapy. Concerned by the prevalence of recurrent injuries in juniors and the lack of education around proper technique and positional awareness, we wanted to build a program with injury prevention exercises forefront and to prepare our athletes for the demands of... their sport. The program incorporates proven exercises and techniques from international sporting institutes, and draws on the experience of professional athletes and physiotherapists. It will involve assessing the movement of individual athletes and applying a set of exercises specific to the promotion of better strength, balance, mobility, power and flexibility. Importantly, it will involve education about proper body positioning and biomechanics; knowledge that can be carried into their sporting futures. I'm really excited about this program. I had a lot of injuries as an athlete which stopped me achieving my sporting goals but taught me a huge amount about the importance of perfecting technique and proper biomechanics. I want to help our juniors have a different experience than I did and to enjoy long and rewarding sporting careers. The program is targeted at adolescents aged 12+ It runs for 10 weeks next term on Wednesdays starting on 14 October from 4:30-6pm The cost is $150 for the term Places are limited to 15 (Now full) If you think this could be good for one of your children or a young person whom you currently coach, please share this post, message me here or call me on 0401-000-530. NEW TRAINING CYCLE BELOW The new training cycle got underway yesterday and I'm very excited (about many things), but in particular: Cafe Mojo started stocking our Post Workout Smoothie ... today!! They are available in the fridge at Mojos and Fast Fit athletes get a discounted price of $5 The Love Life Lake Loop 3K event at the end of next month (31 August - Save The Date), more on this soon. Free Saturday trail runs this cycle, meeting at Sculpture Park 9:15. For those who are new to Fast Fit, we run two training cycles per school term, usually lasting 5 or 6 weeks. This cycle's focus is middle distance, getting ready for the Lake Loop in 6 weeks. Why not join us for a cycle?
