22.01.2022 It’s International Women’s Day. It’s 10pm. And I’m finally sitting down to write about it. It’s taken me all day to get here. Mostly because of kids. But also because I’m undecided about how I feel about it I’m torn. ... On one hand I’m extremely blessed to be a woman. A mum. I’m surrounded by powerhouse women who support and uplift me. I’m surrounded by outstanding role models. They deserve to be recognised and celebrated. So to you, a cheers. Cheers for the bloody beautiful people you are. On the other hand, I’m frustrated. I’m angry. I’m irritated by the notion that there seems to only be a national conversation about the importance of and issues faced by women on this day. Like every other dam day we don’t exist. Or, we exist, but our stories and experiences have to be pulled apart and questioned and analysed. Or not believed at all. The current national conversation around the toxic culture in parliament is a testament to that. This post is a little angry. It’s pretty raw. It’s the current mood I’m in reflecting on what IWD means to me. I’m a privileged woman. I’m lucky. But I can’t help but think about all of the women who aren’t. 22.01.2022 Hi everyone. The last 2 weeks have been pretty horrendous for my little fam. Both of my twins have had hospital stays at different times due to a nasty virus. Boy twin had a 3 night stay and my girl twin just got home yesterday after 2 nights in. Thankfully we’re on the mend and my little girl is recovering faster than her brother. It’s been a challenging time with my husband and I both under the weather. Sharing is caring, right?! ... Their big sister however is now unwell and I’m praying she doesn’t end up in hospital too. Because I need to prioritise family currently, any orders placed will take me a while to fill. I promise I’ll get them to you, it will just take me a little longer than normal. 19.01.2022 Let’s talk about NICU. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Otherwise known as Neonatal Unit, Intensive Care Nursery, and closely associated with Special Care Nursery. A place that I didn’t know even existed until I was a nursing student. ... I remember wheeling a new mum into the unit and peering with amazement at these tiny little bodies lying in glowing blue beds, hooked up to wires and tubes. My young heart literally skipped a beat. I knew that I wanted to know more. I worked hard to get into the NICU. And I’ve been there for over 7 years. It’s a privilege to work there and care for the babies and their families. The NICU can be frightening, stressful, heartbreaking. It can be full of big words, long days, heart stopping moments. It can also be full of miracles. Joy. Hope. Have you experienced the NICU?
