23.01.2022 A fun idea that someone shared with me recently. This is a busy hair salon with 11 team members and every Saturday they have a morning and an afternoon hot spot. The salon owner chooses the lucky chair and sets an alarm and when it goes off the client sitting in that chair can choose a product for free. It does apparently create a lot of noise as all the team get excited and share it with clients. We all need some fun in these challenging times.

Our blondes are beautiful, our foils are fabulous, and we use the best products so our colour are the best. We listen to what you want so you will love your colour result.



20.01.2022 Focus on forgotten products. A good tip for salon owners, is to do a print out and review of the products your team have sold in the last 8 weeks and you will most likely see a short list of popular products then you will have a list of products that are rarely offered. These are always great products that when shared, clients will say yes to as they often don’t even know they exist .

16.01.2022 Have you started to think about your Christmas marketing plan for 2020? September is planning month; October is getting plans in place and first week of November is launch and go with everything. For my clients it is about what always works and what is new and different. I do a full Christmas marketing planner each year that my clients can use as a guide to make sure this year will be a great success.

The answer is no it is not possible Second question to your team. How do your clients know what and how to use unless you help them to know exactly what product is right for them?



16.01.2022 Little things can mean a lot to your team. Check your conversations are not heavily dollar focused. Look for opportunities to recognise and give thanks for the little things. Often these are not obvious to you but I promise if you look you will find a lot to make everyone on your team feel good about.

Share why you are suggesting or recommending for them personally and what the benefits are for them and how they should use the product. We all know our clients consider themselves to be the most important so talk about them personally.

10.01.2022 Black Friday, which this Friday (November 27th) is one of the rare opportunities I like to offer a deal to clients. I don’t focus on discounts at any other time of the year. Keep it simple. Get some black balloons and offer 20% off all products (except irons) for one day only. Push this out on your social media also. A good opportunity in salon to introduce new products to your clients.

Get back to your routine. Don’t be misled by thinking they know what to do. You will have a happier team and they will give more if you make a little time to say well done and share opportunities to improve. ... Everyone loves recognition.

04.01.2022 The 6 most expensive words in a salon are we’ve always done it this way. Spring is a great time for change. Take a walk around your salon and find 3 things you need to change. Look at the service you offer and find 3 things you can do better or different.

04.01.2022 Do you have a clear cancellation policy on your website in line with your online booking service? I just did a random check of 5 salons that I consider to be good salons (none are my clients) and only 3 have a cancellation policy and only 2 are what I consider to be well worded. You often don’t look at your own website. Time to take a look.

03.01.2022 Have you got some lovely Christmas points of difference in place? Are you serving treats with your tea and coffee? Rum balls and white Christmas are always popular. A selection of Christmas music also get the spirit happening and of course the giving of client gifts is a nice way to say thank you for your support during the year.

03.01.2022 Do all your client follow you on social media? For the next 4-6 weeks have a reward gift to encourage client to follow you and do a weekly drawer. Have a nice message at reception to share your promotion and what your weekly draw prize is.
