25.01.2022 FCA member Urs Walterlin added a post script to his profile on Behrouz Boochani: "I had tried for months to get to PNG to interview Behrouz Boochani, one of the most famous refugees to ever have tried to get to Australia. My endeavours to get a visa to visit Boochani after he was evacuated from Manus Island for a dungeon motel room in Port Moresby proved fruitless, even with the help of the Swiss Embassy in Canberra. Eventually Behrouz fled to New Zealand, using his invitati...on to a literary festival. There I met the author in a safe house (he still fears for his safety) and had a full day with him at a beach near Auckland. In the afternoon I gave him a lift to Auckland airport, from where Boochani flew to Christchurch. While driving, the story of the White Island volcano erupting broke. What was an already very draining day - eight hours of listening to Boochani's description of systematic torture and human rights abuse by the Australian government is not for the faint hearted - merged into an even longer night, with several live feeds to Switzerland from my hotel room in inner city Auckland, as well as a range of print and online stories to write. But I enjoyed it. I like a high pressure environment. As many journalists do, but I definitely needed a whisky after it was all over!"
