25.01.2022 Children are more likely to stay quiet about abuse or harm than to speak up (especially if they know their abuser). On the rare occasion that children or young ...people can and do speak out they need to be heard and given an appropriate response to ensure their safety and well-being. It is unusual for children who are being abused to tell someone. When this does occur, that someone needs to pay attention. As part of Queensland Child Protection Week in Gympie (6-12 Sept), we’ve put together a list of helpful services that can provide confidential support to kids and parents. No lo limpies mientras come.

21.01.2022 Mean or cruel words harm children and young people. Cruel comments, name calling or yelling at children can hurt them and make them feel unimportant and unlovab...le. ‘Sticks and Stones’ comments of days gone by have long been disproven and it is clear that calling children names, even in jest is harmful. Yelling, name calling or making cruel comments about children or any part of them is harmful. If you are a trusted person in a child’s life it is most likely that they will believe what you are saying. As part of Queensland Child Protection Week in Gympie (6-12 Sept), we’ve put together a list of helpful services that can provide confidential support to kids and parents. 17.01.2022 A TIMELY REMINDER ABOUT AUTISTIC SHUTDOWN (graphic + links) Text: I Want You To Know About...Autistic Shutdown Autistic shutdown is like an internalized meltdo...wn. While the person is experiencing a lot of emotions, they can't express them outwardly. It may look like this: zoning out, exhaustion/falling asleep, hiding/defensive position. How can allistic (non-autistic) folks help? - Safety first! Help them to a quiet place w/ minimal stimuli. - Be sensory sensible! Have a kit tailored to their needs. - Eliminate all expectations/demands. They are currently overloaded. - Reduce interactions, giving them space and time. REMEMBER: Autistic shut-down is NOT stubbornness, laziness or disrespect. Autistic shut-down is involuntary, painful, exhausting. Please, be patient and compassionate. 01.01.2022 "Today was a Difficult Day," said Pooh. There was a pause. "Do you want to talk about it?" asked Piglet. "No," said Pooh after a bit. "No, I don't think I do." ..."That's okay," said Piglet, and he came and sat beside his friend. "What are you doing?" asked Pooh. "Nothing, really," said Piglet. "Only, I know what Difficult Days are like. I quite often don't feel like talking about it on my Difficult Days either. "But goodness," continued Piglet, "Difficult Days are so much easier when you know you've got someone there for you. And I'll always be here for you, Pooh." And as Pooh sat there, working through in his head his Difficult Day, while the solid, reliable Piglet sat next to him quietly, swinging his little legs...he thought that his best friend had never been more right." A.A. Milne Sending thoughts to everyone having a Difficult Day today. May you have your own Piglet to sit beside you
