This will increase the chances of recovering your important data, and ensuring that it isn't written over and lost forever. If it's on a USB Drive (External or Thumb Drive) stop any access to the drive and unplug it as soon as possible. If it's on your computer hard drive, then you should turn your computer off as soon as possible.
