21.01.2022 Fantastic News Please read carefully! The easing of some restrictions in Victoria has allowed the Management Committee to approve the restart of training at Frankston Dog Obedience Club. This is for current members only. With restrictions still in place for the use of indoor facilities, we cannot resume taking new members.... All current members have been sent an email outlining how to book into a class. The management of attendance is paramount for the health of our whole community. We can only take bookings for one person from each membership to attend only one class to allow all members the opportunity to train. When booking a class, the time allocated to that class is when you should arrive at club and allows 15 minutes to park, scan in and get to your class. The general public will not be allowed to enter the grounds during training. Obviously this is not a return to normal training and the Management Committee thanks you in advance for your understanding and patience.
20.01.2022 Building focus - part 2. On the move. A really easy way to build focus in your dog. Set your stopwatch and time how long it takes for your dog to give you atten...tion ten times in a row. 1. Wait for your dog to look at you 2. Click and then reach for a treat and deliver it to his/her mouth (no reaching for the treat or starting to reach for the treat before you click SUPER IMPORTANT) 3. Move a couple of steps away 4. Wait til they look again, click and treat 5. ZIP IT! No talking, let your body language and clicker do the work Do this 3 or 4 times per day under various conditions when outdoors. Take notes or video so you can keep track of your progress. In the video, Logan does the exercise in around 50 seconds. That’s’ with nice clear, deliberate movement from both of us. That’s about 5 seconds per cycle. See what influences that baseline level, what makes it more difficult? Do people and other dogs influence that level. Take notes or video. Post your own videos and tag me (Instagram) or post video in the comments (Facebook). Good luck! 13.01.2022 UPDATE: Today, 28/5/202, we were informed by Dogs Victoria Effective from 1 June 2020, in line with amended State Government COVID-19 legislation, Dogs Victoria membership and affiliates will be permitted to resume non-conformation activities at all affiliate grounds. Though this is great news, we now have to comply with the State Government restrictions of outdoor training groups of up to 20. Our membership is almost 300 and we have to work out how we can offer training to ALL our members whilst complying with all social distancing and restrictions. We thank you for your patience as things start to ease.

10.01.2022 Victorians and in particular Metro Melbournians have done a fantastic job of following the directives of our State’s Chief Health Officer to bring the exposure risk of COVID-19 to an absolute minimum. This has allowed the Premier to begin to ease all the restrictions that we have found difficult and sometimes frustrating to live with. This is the second time that we have eased our way back to some kind of normality. The experience gained from the end of our first lockdown ta...ught us that group limitations, particularly the groups of ten limit was not favourable for our club. At an earlier Management Committee meeting, shortly after the release of the initial Roadmap, the committee discussed the proposed planned dates. From our earlier experience and the timeline of both the Roadmap and the club’s training year, it was decided that we should continue the suspension of club activities until no earlier than 6th February 2021. As Melbourne starts to resume activities Frankston Dog Obedience Club will take the extra time during the summer to ensure that when we return we are COVID-19 safe and compliant. This will then guide us on the protocols and procedures that we have to adhere to. By February it is hoped that we will not only be training with our current membership but have the ability to take new members. The Management Committee looks forward to our safe and COVID-Normal return in 2021. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
03.01.2022 We’ve got to stop perpetuating the myth that puppies should interact with a variety of people and other dogs as a part of Socialization. The wrong situation ...can cause strong issues for your pup as it grows. The correct focus is on Social Acclimation...learning to relax and focus around sights, sounds, new places, people, animals. The actual interactions with people and dogs should be very selective ideally with people you know will handle the pup correctly. See more
02.01.2022 We are putting a call out to club photo takers! We are looking at revamping the website and need some great pics of our dogs and humans at training. Photos need to be 1Mb and can be sent to [email protected] . Thanks in advance.
